cagoldi, I always ask Cadence what she wants to give mh. Even if it is the dumbest thing ever, I buy it for him because it's what she wants him to have. You should ask them what they want to give him.

I walked M to school this morning, then got H ready and dropped him off for a bit. I finished wrapping all of the gifts and then picked H up for the dr. She said she reached out to the my immunologist and the head of immunology. The head got back to her and said based off his chart and the tests that had been run, it looks like transient hypogammaglobulinemia of infancy. It’s basically a very fancy way of saying his immune system isn’t built up to where it should be and it could take a couple years to get there.
She said she knew how frustrated I was and this many ear infections isn’t normal but coupled with the parotitis, she wants a few more tests run. Apparently my immunologist got back to her last Friday and said he’d work us in before the end of the year. I told her a nurse had phoned and offered me an appt for Jan 9 and she was not delightful, etc. she said sometimes scheduling calls to make appts and they’re not affiliated with any department so maybe that was the confusion. She called her nurse in the room and she confirmed it was my immunologist’s nurse. Lol.
Anyway, she’s going to contact immunology again and get us in before the end of the month. No blood work today since immunology will want tests run too and she didn’t want to poke him twice. We’ll see if they can actually get him in.

The dr also said she wouldn’t recommend the prophylactic antibiotic for him because the viruses then get smart and grow more difficult strains. The usual antibiotics he would be prescribed for infections wouldn’t work & we’d be in the hospital to receive different antibiotics that are IV only.

I'm over here deliberating on gifts for DH, he is the last person on my list. I wish he was slightly more materialistic, lol. Hard to buy for someone who apparently doesn't want or need anything (except like, a Traeger grill, which I am planning to do next year once we are settled in the new house, etc). Maybe you should gift him a tropical vacation for the 2 of you 😉 FOR REAL. I'm already over winter. If we weren't planning the house-hunting trip to FL this spring I would be polling y'all for destinations. We will be there over his birthday, so hopefully his gift will be buying us a house I'm unselfish like that.

tgrimes At least she sounds more compassionate than some of the other doctors you've seen. Poor H...it's just crazy all he has had to go through (and you by proxy). If it is essentially a latent-developing immune system, is that just something he has to outgrow naturally?

If it is essentially a latent-developing immune system, is that just something he has to outgrow naturally? Pretty much, yes. From the little bit of google research I did it says it’s usually diagnosed between 6-24 months and resolves around 2-6 years old. I’m still going to push for the strep titers & immunoglobulin levels to be checked again when they run the other tests though. This dr is great. She’s good with H & is very understanding. As I was leaving she said if I ever got in a situation like this again to reach out to her or her nurse and they’d help me out, even though it doesn’t sound like H will need her department of expertise.

If any of you fellow elf moms need ideas, I just made the elf roast a mini marshmallow above a bread stick and felt campfire... this falls in to the category ‘sentences I’d never thought I’d say’.

My mom's dog's sutures ruptured, because of course they did. Her little dog suddenly went deaf last week so she had to take her I , apparently it's a cyst in one ear and a yeast infection in the other, and now this with the big dog. She just can't catch a break. I swear she's been at the vet multiple times every week the past few weeks. Her cat, however, has completely healed.

Did I tell you guys we had B's follow up (and S well visit) on Thursday? B is mostly better (she wants him to keep on the inhaler for another 2 weeks and then start again at the first sign of any new cough) but she said his tube was gone in one of his ears. He just had surgery to put them back in in August, and he's had his ears checked at every appt since so I know it was in just 2 weeks ago. I am not delighted.

That looks painful cagoldi. Girl has some twinkle toes. You're a good mom for getting Pete a gift from the kids. My dad never helped us get anything for my mom but in our younger years when we actually wanted to get him something she always took us shopping. It meant a lot.

I've been letting her use my care credit card for it because she doesn't have this kind of money just laying around. It's been ridiculous.

jewels That's crazy! I know (my) B had to have one of his tubes removed, I think the other one did fall out but it was in for a couple years and did its job. It's so annoying that it's quite the process to put them in but apparently they can just fall out of their own accord.

Also hi. I left the office midday after getting an upsetting email from my Dad. He got sick while they were visiting and shurgged it off as a recurring issue he'd been dealing with, but it turns out he had pneumonia. And in getting that diagnosis, the doctor found a mass in his left lung and while they're not making an official diagnosis until his biopsy later this week, they suspect small cell lung cancer. My Dad has smoked on and off (mostly on) since he was a teenager so it's not surprising, but it's still devastating. I know he hasn't been thrilled with the medical care there but I assume my Mom will insist on staying there since he loves it, but I think she'd benefit from having family closer. This sucks so badly. DH got so lucky though. He forgot to pay the electric bill AGAIN and our electricity got shut off AGAIN. I should be mad but it doesn't seem so important. Though it is sad that we used to have such excellent credit...

Oh my gosh joelies I'm so sorry to hear about your dad. And I hate that you had to get that info in an email I hope if it does turn out to be malignant it's treatable and he can get the care he needs. RE: your H not keeping up with bills, do they not offer auto-pay for utility bills there?

flamingo - they absolutely offer autopay but we've had some issues with incorrect billing in the past, so DH refuses to use it. We had a pretty frank discussion last night about what's been going on with him and after this, I'm pretty sure he has a lot of things to take care of. But as soon as I posted, the electric company rep showed up to turn us back on. Thank goodness.

I have to figure out what to get for Pete as a gift from the kids. And I don’t have the first idea what I should give Tim, either. Blah. That’s nice of you. My parents never bought each other gifts from us kids when we were growing up.
