I really wanted to drop the F Bomb in that subject, but I refrained. I had a night last night.
But TGIF! I'm so ready for the weekend!

So I totally pulled a naive grandma-ish move last night. And I feel dumb.
I got a text that looked like it was from Verizon, regarding Disney+ and a link to click on. I clicked on it, then decided I'd look at it at work, I hate viewing websites on my phone. My phone rang immediately, looked like my own phone was calling me and said it was 'Voice Mail.' Weird. H told me not to answer, but I did, because I hate robo calls and think if I answer, I will maybe get rid of them. It was a guy claiming to be from Verizon, telling me they wanted to upgrade our plan to 5G. I told him I would do it today when I logged into pay my bill and he said it would only take 2-4 minutes. H is still sitting there telling me not to give them any information.
The guy just asked for my billing zip code and said I would get a text with a code I needed to read back to him, to confirm I was the account owner. Should have been my red flag, but I went along with it. All the text messages look like the texts I get from Verizon, so it seemed legit. The guy said he would put me on hold for a few minutes while my account updates. I could tell he never put me on hold, which seemed weird. He comes back and says our account is updated, thanks!
I hung up and googled, my phone isn't even 5G compatible, which Verizon would know. I googled to see if there were any Verizon scams and nothing recent popped up, but I did find an article about something very similar and how that code I read him could be used to reset my account. I was like, no way, this article is old, I'm good.
8:30, H and I both get a text at the same time that our phones have been removed from Myverizon. WTF. H is livid. I'm freaking the fuck out. I can't login to my account. When I try to, the security question is what was my favorite restaurant in college. I would never use that as a security question. So I called Verizon and sat on hold for 45 minutes before someone answered and confirmed that my account pin had been changed and asked if I had ordered an iPad. NO! So we get everything put back to me. H is freaking out about our bank account information being on Verizon's website, etc.
I also contacted Verizons fraud team and they confirmed my account is secure, the order for 2 iPads has been cancelled, their fraud team had flagged the order since it isn't my normal behavior.
I was so pissed. took me forever to fall asleep last night.

Sorry for a rough night mwhip. Cheers to Friday! Cass wanted to go to our favorite pizza place last night. She moves up on my list of favorite children because Maddie chose McDonald's for her birthday. Tonight is parent's night out at TKD. Wahoo!

So after that call, I realized if I lost my phone, anyone could get into it and access all kinds of information. I save passwords on websites, paypal, etc.
I decide I need to set security on it. I set a pin, trying to think of something not so obvious that anyone would guess it, but something I can remember and I'm like, oh, our anniversary. I set it up, add my finger print. Think great, I'm secure.
I then realize the pin I set, is not my anniversary, it's 10 days off. So I now have some random pin set on my phone that I'm sure I'll forget and at some point will have to explain to H how I set up some random ass number for a pin.

Oh mwhip, that’s terrible! I’m sorry that happened. Mother effers and these damn phone scammers, I’m glad it was dealt with so quickly though. I’m laughing at the random ‘anniversary’ PIN, there are far to many passwords to remember!

Someone may actually guess your anniversary. I normally combined 2 dates. Like the year we met and the year we got married. Or the year Matthew was born and the year Jackson was born.

I’m laughing at the random ‘anniversary’ PIN, there are far to many passwords to remember! This is what I tried to explain to H last night when he was flipping out. I asked him if he had any security on his phone, neither of us do. I told him I was going to set one up so no one could access anything, JIC. He was like, why do you save passwords on your phone, that's dumb. Listen fucker, if you paid the bills in this house and had to remember every fucking password, you would think differently. I'm paying bills now, looking at a spreadsheet I keep track of everything on. I have 27 accounts I login monthly to make a payment. FOR PERSONAL USE. This does not include passwords for work stuff. My brain is overwhelmed. So yes, apparently I want to celebrate our anniversary 10 days before the actual date!

I was telling one of the girls I work with about this and she said she uses her daughters name, the numbers that correspond to the letters. I thought that was a pretty secure idea.

Sorry for the rough night mwhip , stuff like that is so frustrating and scary. DH also keeps a spreadsheet with all our accounts and passwords in the safe, in case anything happened to us and our family needed to access stuff immediately. I need to bug my parents to make sure they do something like that at some point. My sister and I use the same couple PIN codes for several things--our alarm code from our childhood home, and the PIN we had to use for the security gate/access in our neighborhood. LOL. Clearly we are creatures of habit...so if my stuff ever gets hacked, I'm looking at her first

M still had a fever of 101 when I picked her up yesterday. She said her throat still hurt so I picked up some Halls Lollipops at the store. I asked if she wanted to stay home today and she said no. After a meltdown in the bathtub, she decided she did want to stay home. Grandpa is with her this morning until my MIL can get over there. I scheduled an appt for this afternoon to check for strep &/or EI. When I sent a text to her teacher she said there were 5 kids out yesterday. Some with the stomach virus and some with strep.
FML if we get strep & a stomach virus.

Morning!
So C fell asleep in my lap yesterday around 4 and I was able to transfer her to her bed...where she slept til 7 this morning. She woke up at 10 to use the potty but otherwise we didn't hear a peep out of her. She seems improved today so I think we're past the worst of it.
I ordered Christmas pj's for the kids from Macy's and did free ship-to-store, so once B heads to school I need to go get them, and grab C a hat at Dillards. I have tennis this afternoon, and that is the last of our plans for the next couple days.

Just lounging around this morning. Meeting my friend and her kids at noon.

Also, had no clue there are halls suckers!

tgrimes, no bueno! I hope it's short lived. Keep H away from her! We got an email from the district about how much higher the absence rate for illness is this year at the schools and that they are going to start cleaning more and the kids need to remember to wash their hands, blah blah. Then the next paragraph is about how if your kid is sick to remember to keep them home. Clearly, parents are doing that if the absence rate is higher!

I bought some chloraseptic lozenges, but she spit it out after 5 minutes. She said it was burning her tongue. It could be her geographic tongue though.

mwhip I think ten days off is better than your actual anniversary. I always heard not to use that or kid’s birthdays because it’s too easy for people to get that information. I always use some other random family member’s birthday. Since I have a million aunts and cousins they’d be guessing for a loooooong time. PDQ
