First, congratulations to everyone who voted - I'm a Pollyanna who believes every vote is important in every race, and that local government has more direct impact on its citizens than a lot of those up ballot positions. And thanks to all the people who worked on behalf of their candidates across the nation.
And now to analyze results and see what can be learned, and leveraged, for the 2020 elections.

Well in Idaho one city put a former state rep who left office after being accused of sexual assault and then stole a truck and trailer while incoherently intoxicated, back on city council. My city wasn’t even close the retiring mayor’s chief of staff win But boise now has to have its first ever mayoral runoff in December between the current mayor and the head of city council. Mind blowing was the fact that a former mayor who was running who left amid financial scandals and a mistress got 7% of the vote.
I’m waiting for Larry Craig to jump back in next year. Then all will be normal for Idaho

And in South Bend, Mayor Pete's former chief of staff Jim Mueller won with 66% of the vote.

Omg I didn't realize Joe Morissey ran (and won) again. Why do people in Richmond like him so much?!?!?

Since 1971, KY has only had two republican governors - Ernie Fletcher and Matt Bevin. Both only (fingers crossed for the recount bullshit) got a four year term.

That's so awesome. Mh is from Bucks County and my in laws still live there; I'll bet my FIL is less than pleased. I'll bet the Trump loving CEO of my company is PISSED. I am reveling in this. So proud today.

Delaware County, a Philly suburb as well, has been under Republican control since the Civil War...…..ALSO FLIPPED DEMOCRAT.

"Anti-gun organizations are backed by distant billionaires, not local interests," Jason Ouimet, head of the NRA's Institute for Legislative Action, said in a statement. "These elitists funnel money into our communities to prop-up weak candidates defined by one trait: their willingness to bow to the billionaire's gun control agenda, even if it turns great places-like Virginia-into New York City." Lol ok asshole

I'm so excited to hear about the flipped seats for you all. Seriously, it's nice to hear some good news for once.
There was nothing exciting on my ballot, just some random propositions. They all went my way though, so....small yay.

I'm telling you guys, at the doors, every time I mentioned gun reform, voters started listening. Just like I said in the Washington post a couple of months ago 😜 Just curious - I'm seeing stories that the Bloomberg contributions through EveryTown helped a lot with the ground game on gun control. That track with your on the ground experience? I'm not Bloomberg's biggest fan overall, but if he truly helped in this effort, I'm going to give him points for supporting the ground teams achieve this success.

The city council asshole who won reelection posted in a local fb group last night. One post saying thanks, blag blah blah. The 2nd post was to call out one community member who was vocal against him, and thank her for his win. He immediately was called out on his behavior and DD'd. He also DD'd screenshots posted in the comments of the original post to show his disgusting behavior. And then he made these comments (and more). (I'm sorry if they're huge! Tapatalk) *repost after editing out some potentially identifying info*

My city commissioners won their seats, so I'm very pleased. Only a 25% voter turnout, though. I really wish more people cared about civic engagement in off/ minor years.
I am pumped for 2020. So many gains in 2018 elections, more gains last night...let's keep the blue waves coming!

I woke up to the right city councilors and an almost all new school board. I work for the district so this week should be interesting but I'm pleased.

Our Dem incumbent won the mayoral race, yay! Only 27% voter turnout, sigh. And the levies failed but I'm not surprised about that. This was my first time voting in our new county, and I liked the process - insert paper ballot, touch screen voting then print the completed paper ballot. Our county BOE had results up very fast and all kinds of stats available on their website this morning.

Ahh! I’m so happy about the VA results! I didn’t register to vote here so that I can keep voting in my hometown’s elections (we’ll go back someday), and I hate that feeling like I could be *doing* something instead of just watching the TV on election night. Thank you for all your hard work, dc2london !! On a side note, my super Trump hometown in IA just elected a young progressive mayor and I’m so happy. People my age started a write-in campaign for him and then voted like crazy. He got more than the total number of votes in the last mayoral election. He’s sending a clear message to the old white guys that their world is changing. 1) I am trying to triangulate your hometown without being a creep. I just want to know what places in my state are kicking ass. 2) One of our suburbs elected its first female mayor and it was a race between two women. I am stoked for the progress in our state. There were a lot of dems elected to city councils and school boards yesterday. It gives me hope since we tend to be so red on local levels.

One reason I've been pushing so hard for people to engage in local politics is bc VA is basically two different states. The County Supervisor we elected yesterday wants to work with the state legislature to enact laws allowing municipalities to pass their own gun laws superceding the state laws. So, if the GOP takes control of the state govt at some point, our very blue county can at least protect itself with stronger gun laws

I wasn't super involved in the mayoral race in the town we're moving to in Feb (10 miles way) because the runner was a Dem and the incumbent had declined to run again, and I found out why this morning: evidently the new Mayor is a fucking SUPERSTAR. Like just retired from a stellar 29 year career in the police department, won an Obama Champion of Change award a few years ago, community service awards and "person of the year" awards up the wazoo. I am SO EXCITED to be moving and getting to be his constituent!
