Ironically, I just saw this and went to his Twitter to see if it was real: WTF? What universe is he living in that they won in KY last night? I can only assume because the GOP won every other seat BESIDES the gov. and he was like the most hated gov in the country.
True. But I have to imagine that Turtlefuckface is doing the Chandler Bing "SHUT UP SHUT UP SHUT UP" meme in real life right now. The news said he had an 18% approval rating this morning.

I read the NYT article about this and it seems a bit more nuanced. Many of the people protesting the street name change are also African-American and feel that the Paseo name holds a significance in the history of the local black community. They aren't necessarily against a street being named for MLK but are against that particular street's name changing and the fact that the City Council voted on the change after a petition was voted down by the public.

I was trying to wrap my head around it but also the demographics are like 65 white to 35 POC. I was reading comments from actual residents and I got their frustration with the project. But they also couldn't get an airport terminal, park, etc., named either. Im just very confused.

FFS Alex Jones tried to publicly identify one of the jurors in the Roger Stone trial yesterday. ABJ is NOT happy.
These people are heinous. Outing whistleblowers , outing jurors. Fuck them.

Probably based on his insanity alone. He doesn’t live in our reality. Every race in the state could have gone D, and he’d have tweeted the same damn thing.

It just feels arrogant at this point. I'm sure it's incredibly frustrating bc he believes he did nothing wrong, and I'm sure some would say ending his campaign would come off like an admission of guilt, but it's a huge nonstop distraction for the party. And he's too old to go 8 years anyway! Just retire. Write a book. Learn to golf.

I might need to hide from the world for a while. A good friend, who is a liberal, started complaining in a group chat that headlines shouldn't be false and acting like VA and KY we're big wins because xyz and Democrats aren't helping anyone by putting out "fake news." I started off just being like dude, come on. But he dug in and so I tried to point out reasons they mattered Anna also, you know, (in addition to other things) kids are dying in fucking cages so every decision we make really matters and it's about time Democrats got that. He responds with a Snopes link saying Obama built detention centers or whatever. I keep trying, saying he's now using republican talking points to deflect from the fact that things are especially bad right now. "Yeah they are, but I'm saying Democrats aren't saints." And I just gave up and left the chat. If even our own age doing this shit, what hope so we have? I'm so tired. And very sick of middle class liberal white guys. Honestly, I think we're so ingrained to think of "both sides" and play the devil's advocate, that we shoot ourselves in the proverbial foot. At least I can see this with all of my older Millennial/ X-ennial/ Oregon Trail generation/ whatever the fuck people are calling themselves these days/ friends. Particularly my male friends who live in blue states who might lean moderate who grew up doing DARE and were taught to respect the police NO MATTER WHAT. We learned to yell the word SOURCE when the internet become one with our fingertips but somehow managed to get an unhealthy distrust of the media. I also think a lot of white men are seeing that they can't rely on their privilege. Like, yeah, gay people can get married and women can get abortions so they call themselves a dem because they agree with those things, but there's a bias against brown people in this country and coming into this country. They may have black friends, but that doesn't mean they want those black friends doing better than them.

Zelinsky's main theme: Stone lied because the truth would "look bad," for him and Trump, and it's proven by the documents.

The new information revealed was about Stone's contacts with the Trump campaign — ominous emails to Manafort and Bannon, and calls with Trump at key times.
That's because Stone is charged with a false statements count on that. (Related to his testimony to House Intel)

But interestingly, while I totally see this with people I know (old millenials or whatever), among the people I know, it crosses racial and gender lines. I do think what you're saying about many white men not really wanting to give up their privilege is accurate, but the distrust of media goes beyond that, in my experience.

I've yet to see a headline claiming KY has its first Dem governor for the first time on this Earth. And he kept going on about the VA governor, which... What? I probably did have handled it better but I feel like I lasted as long as I could. I was legit shaking by the end with anger. Right wingers are obsessed with our governor bc of a misleadingly edited interview he did about terminally ill newborns. Makes me rage. Any good thing that happens in VA there's always some dildo shouting infanticide

I like this in theory, but as a former teacher I’m very wary of how the volunteering to work the additional hours would work. One reason I left was because of everything I was expected to do in addition to my actual job, seeing no monetary benefit, and having it be presented to the community as volunteering by the staff because we “loved the school so much.” For the annual fundraiser I quickly learned that teachers were expected to donate. I also learned that if we didn’t, someone would do so in our names, so that the school could brag about its staff participation rate. All this to say- I understand how this could be really helpful for many, many families, but teachers are already treated pretty poorly (IMO) and this could cause more problems, from new expectations/voluntolding to new hires getting paid the same amount to do more work, simply because the districts can do it.

Totally valid concern. Since Kamala has focused a lot on teachers in her campaign, I'm operating under the assumption that her legislative staff (or Kamala herself) reached out to educators and superintendents for feedback on her proposals. I mean really it would have been malpractice for her LD NOT to have done that, even if the Senator herself didn't initiate it.

I'm genuinely not trying to argue with or at you, but should you run into this argument again: Democrats hold the Governorship, Lieutenant Governorship and the Attorney General seat. But we lost the majority in the House by one seat. So, the Governor had the power to sign gun reform Bill's, for example, but he couldn't do anything when GOP Chairmen killed them all in committee and not a single gun policy bill came out of the capitol during the 2018 or 2019 legislative sessions. Now that we have the majority in the legislative branch, we can actually write and pass laws, not just try to maneuver with executive authority.

Sorry, I know I always bring it back to guns as examples but those are the easiest for me to explain cuz of my day job, and the bipartisan public support that betrays the lack of bipartisan support among politicians.

Now that both the state house and Senate are Dem Virginia is going to ratify the ERA, and it will become an amendment because VA will the 38th state!!! That's huge. It fucking matters.

I feel you @icedtea, this is slightly different, I have a coworker that was pretty hardcore Bernie (I think he voted dem in the last election at the end), but last week he was like, "I mean if you think about it though, Obama and Trump are basically the same." I was like stopppppp. He brought up detention centers, drones, them both kind of being 'celebrities' at this point, pro business and the only thing that he would agree with me on about the outcomes being different (which-- why was I even arguing, this shit is absurd) about it going for DT vs. Clinton was that his admin has stacked the courts with unqualified judges who will f the judiciary. I tried three other arguments before that, but I feel like it's almost trolling sometimes and people want to argue for fun or are in denial about how bad things are.
