This is somewhat random but I help run a Facebook business page that is verified (gray checkmark). Facebook has notified us that gray checkmarks will be going away on October 29th since "they are confusing." Blue checkmarks for public figures and brands will be staying but those are pretty much impossible to get unless Facebook decides you are important enough to grant you one.
I'm pretty annoyed by this because it was a bit of a PITA to get the checkmark in the first place, and I can't help but be suspicious this is another step in the spread of misinformation, because it will harder to tell legit pages from fake ones. Here's the full message from FB:
Gray Badges Will Be Removed October 29
We're always working on better ways to help people understand more about the Pages they interact with. We introduced gray verification badges in 2015 to show which Pages for businesses and organizations are authentic.
However, we've found that they can be more confusing than helpful, so we're removing them on October 29. As a result, there will no longer be a gray badge on [page name]. This won't impact the way the Page appears in search results.
To learn more about how to help people find a Page and verify that it's real, please go to our best practices.
Thanks, The Facebook Pages Team

The competition for OGR Chair is going to be interesting but I will throw at least partial support behind Uncle Gerry bc he helped us find Dagron
Rep. Gerry Connolly tells reporters that he's "begun discussions" about running for Oversight chair, will talk to leadership as well.

I'm not sure why I posted this in last week's thread, oops. C&Ping here bc it mattered to the Senate map
Floooooouuhhhhh
Jeff Sessions might run for the Alabama Senate seat. This while Doug Jones, an unlikely occupant for the seat to begin with, is fighting with the Alabama Democratic party.

Hey @darlene bunnyfungo I know you're both super busy but if you have time or energy for this I think you'd both love it and be great at it. I worked with Ben at MoveOn and he is a freaking savant at political ground game. Donβt worry. I already follow him π They have an event this weekend that I might be able to make but DHβs job is insane right now and his schedule might change at basically any minute. I know youβve canvassed with your kids and Iβm pretty sure that makes you a super hero. Because the thought of doing it with mine makes me break into a sweat.

In case anyone thought Scott Walker would take a smoke break from being a complete weapon, now he's mocking food pantries for the poor. In Detroit. Anyone notice the backdrop behind @berniesanders and @rashidatlaib looked like the empty shelves of grocery stores in many socialist countries? Irony. t.co/rHuXGMhDX9

Meanwhile, in the UK, the 31 October hard Brexit is off the table. Labour supports a December general election

Liz Cheney is out there saying its shameful to question patriotism.
which fine but you're still in a party that continues to perpetrate those things there Liz.

ACLU: BREAKING: We just blocked Alabama's abortion ban.
With this federal court ruling, it's official: None of the state abortion bans passed earlier this year are in effect.
Abortion remains legal in all 50 states.
I know the goal is to get in front of SCOTUS now that Keg-anaugh is there, but for now, I will revel in the good news.

A couple we are friends with was at that game Sunday night. I was just talking with the wife and she said booing with a stadium of people at the president was one of the most cathartic moments she's experienced of recent memories and was the highlight/most memorable part of the game. I absolutely believe that.
