When I take Cadence to the movies I usually take her to the family party, which has crafts beforehand at the theater. I was thinking of doing this for her birthday/Frozen 2, but I started to wonder if parents would be ok with dropping their 5-6 year olds at the movie with us. Like I would buy 12 tickets, 2 for me and mh and then 10 for the kids. We do the crafts and then we buy them pizza and milk shakes or whatever for during the movie. They are assigned seats and would all be on the same row. Would you drop your kid off for that?

We’re doing Frozen 2 as well. I’m leaving it up to the parents. If a parent wants to come I will cover. I’m on the fence if I would drop LO off because he’s a handful.

I will probably lower the number. Maybe we'll just do 5 friends. 😬

Plus A and X and lo’s “girlfriend”. I’m banking on half not coming from the class because that’s what seems to happen for all the school parties. So we’ll have 8 kids by my guess.

I’m confused by the voting. If I would drop off my kid would probably depend on if I knew you or not, and if I knew the other kids.
I think it’s a great idea. Would you feel comfortable saying you buy the tkts and food and let it be known that you’ve bought a block of X tickets and if anyone else wants to stay they are welcome to buy their own?

I would drop off but I know C would behave and be pretty self sufficient. chrisy01 you have to invite everyone? Ours is that you have to invite everyone if you hand out invites at school. We are inviting a few kids from class but will get their contact info.

I would be totally fine with that but I don’t know that everyone would be. DD was invited to something similar at the end of 2nd grade and I was shocked to find out I was the only parent that just dropped her to the party mom and left. I knew the mom and dad and so did DD and I knew she was comfortable with them if she needed anything. Maybe stick to kids with parents you already know if C is ok with that?

Ours is also you can only give out invites at school if everyone is invited. T only has 16 in his class and I booked a bounce party that is for 25 so I’m inviting everyone plus his friends from pre-k that are in the other class and his cousins. I did that for kindergarten for my other 2 then I stopped inviting those that didn’t rsvp after that.

I will forever have nightmares about that time I had 38 kids, their parents, and a clown in my house. I haven’t had a kid party at home since 😂

We’ll probably be going this route, too. I still need to contact the theaters around here to see if they have a party room.
I’ll only be inviting friends that I know the parents though. If I didn’t know the parents, I wouldn’t drop her off at someone else’s party at the movies. But I wouldn’t expect them to pay for my ticket or food if I wanted to stay.

I’m just here kinda wishing M had a slight interest in Frozen so I could do a movie party. That seems so chill and just my speed.

I dont know if I'd want to send him solo in case he gets scared (it seems kind of scary from the previews) so I'd want to be there to help out if he needed to leave, even if I knew the parents. I'd be totally fine paying my own way though.

Well, Cadence has changed her mind. She wants a party at one of the indoor play places so she can have all her friends come. We'll do Frozen 2 viewing at a different time with my family. This kid, man.

We’ve never done a kids party and I know Josie wants on this year. I kind of hate that she is the first birthday in her class bc if like to see what a party is like in this town for kindergartners (do people drop off, invite everyone, have food or just cake.) We have been talking and she is leaning to the art center in town. They have lots of options but the paint your own pottery or the tie-dye T-shirt party seem to spark the most interest.

guster food depends on time. If the party is in the 11-1 time frame I'll usually provide pizza and cake, if it's 1-4, I'll provide fruit, chips and other snack type foods and cake. I've also learned that most kids want cheese pizza and vanilla cupcakes/cake, so I usually do a 60/40 split on those rather than 50/50. If that makes sense.

One of the pottery places is only an hour and a half, but they provide pizza and you have to bring cake/cupcakes. The other pottery place is two hours, but no food included. I’d prefer an earlier party on a Sunday and cupcakes over cake. Once we went to a horse farm for a party and let the kids groom and then ride the horses, and as we walked back to the “carriage house” the kids sang happy birthday and we were given a pretty sugar cookie and a gift bag and goodbye! I kinda liked that!

guster I've looked into a horse party, I just worry about the weather. More often than not it rains.

Do you have other options than a class party? Like the last 2 years Clark had parties with his neighborhood/our friend circle kids. So fun for all involved.

No, we’ll brave it out and be the first ones. It’s a small class (11 with Josie)plus two little girlfriends from preschool and gymnastics. I’m good at throwing a party but I like a little extra and I think it’s best to stay simple for a kids party. I’ll probably end up at the pottery place that does the food plus the party so all I have to do is make a cheese plate and bring some waters/coffee for the parents.

Cs party is 1:30-3:30. I should probably write a note to go with the invite that pizza and cake will be served, right?
I already got the invites and didn’t even think about it.

I wouldn't worry about it. Cake is assumed and kids will still need to eat lunch beforehand, ,so the pizza will be a snack, which is expected at parties at that time.

This is us this year, too. B has a birthday party Friday for a classmate so I'm interested to see how things go. They are having the "Fun Bus" come to their house. The mom invited me to drop off since she knows I have C, but I also know her through MOPS...not sure what everyone else will me doing. For B, I think we're going to do bowling and offer drop-off since the kids will be fairly contained.

klong11 I'm OK with a drop-off movie for this age. But B is pretty self-sufficient. For my 4th bday, my mom and aunt took me and 3-4 friends to The Little Mermaid, and it was drop-off! LOL, granted that was a smaller group and I think things were less complicated back then, ha.

klong11 I'd do a drop off for a movie party for sure as long as I knew the parents and knowing that my kid would sit through a movie. ETA: and i just saw that she changed her mind. good idea though.
