Any new kindergartners or preschoolers? Are you sad for summer to be over? Any new routines?

DS1 went back today to his integrated program. Technically, itβs his second year of Pre-K since he misses the Dec 1st cut off to go to K, but I consider last year his first day of preschool and today his first day of pre-k π€·πΌββοΈ Heβs gone from being one of the youngest in the class to being one of the oldest ones ππ

Nothing new here. The little guy announced he was in "Pre-K" the other day, but I just rolled my eyes. He's in the same preschool he's been in since he was 2. I was recently informed that a lot of preschools started calling certain classes "pre-k" because parents were getting up in arms about the fact that some schools offer "pre-k" and some don't, when really it's just a term with no meaning. I didn't think our preschool would get caught up in that, but here we are. It certainly wasn't called pre-K when my oldest was there.

He literally was the oldest in his class and it helped build his leadership skills, instead of following his older friends who went off to kindergarten. It also helped develop his kindness and empathy as he started helping the younger kids in his class.

Heβs one of the rare ones who does 2 years in an integrated program instead of 1, so Iβm hoping that by being one of the older and more experienced ones, he can help the younger ones adapt while learning what he needs to be able to succeed in K. Weβre debating sending DS2 into a two year pre-k program next year, too, but my family is all βWHY??? One year of pre-k is enough!β π€¦πΌββοΈ

My oldest went to Kindergarten last week and my youngest started the pre-k program at our daycare. They're both exhausted by the time we get home. I know it will take some time to adjust to the new routine but damn, the sass and attitude from my daughter is unreal.

Ds starts Pre-K next week but he did the 3 year old class a couple days a week last year. He loved it and is excited to go back. I hope his transition is as smooth as last year.
Dd misses the cut off for the 3 year old class by 2 months. It will be nice to get some alone time with her again. The two of us will continue to do nature class, library circle times, play dates etc.
I might have the hardest time with the new routines. Iβm not good at staying home. Weβve done lots of fun day adventures this summer to new gardens/arboretums and exploring new parks. With drop off and pick up times (half day) it doesnβt really leave me and dd with a lot of time to get out. Afternoon traffic blows around here plus both kids still nap so we usually stay local.

DD has been in preschool/preK/school readiness/3k for 5 days now. So far I've been told that she eats chocolate bars every day for lunch, the school has a pet bunny that visits the classrooms, they got to bottle feed baby animals, and there is another girl with DDs name. Well I go to Barre class with the principal and absolutely none of that is true (I was 100% sure the chocolate thing was rubbish, but not really about the rest). So basically I have no fucking clue what DD does all day. At least she likes it. π€· We have open house tomorrow and I'm going to ask if they have a calendar or something because I'm starting to doubt even the mundane things she says happened.

Thereβs only so much he can relay on his own anyway. Iβll ask him yes or no questions about his day, and everything is a yes. Who knows what happens there.

He also told me he does yoga at daycare, which I'm skeptical about. We get daily sheets summarizing their day (generic, played pretend with dolls, played with trucks, etc.) and I have never ever seen a mention of yoga. I asked him to show me some moves and he did a perfect downward dog. I've done yoga with him a couple of times many months ago and haven't kept up and he definitely did not have any moves down.

Well it's official, 2.0 is coming to the Tank family this April! And at the rate I'm going, it will be a miracle if I'm not 300lbs by then. This kid wants carbs and crap unlike DD who was fruit and juice.

Our daycare has "young preschool", "preschool" and then "pre-k". I don't care what they call it but I do care about why "young preschool" costs the same as toddler daycare when the ratio goes from 1:5 to 1:7.Β Β Yeah paying the same doesnβt seem right. Like you mentioned the teacher to pupil ratio is different. I think DDβs tuition went down by about $60 a week, when she went to the former 2s room, now called early preschool. They also change them into pull ups, no more diapers in the early preschool room.

J has been doing much better at drop-offs lately so that's been a relief. Iβm glad drop offs are going better. DD is okay as long as her favorite teacher is there at drop off. Walking in I give her a pep talk, no crying, big girl. She says ok, I not a baby. I take her to the room sheβs fine no crying, waves bye and everything. Then I walk into the main office building to check her in on the kiosk and on my way back to the car I can hear her wailing. π€¦π½ββοΈπ€¦π½ββοΈ

We had DDs open house last night. I talked to the principal about my sensory concerns with DD and she introduced me to their behavioral coordinator/therapist/woman with a ton of behavioral education. She's going to observe DD for a few days next week and bring in the OT as well. It's something. If they come back with nothing, then I'll drop it. It's nice to at least be getting somewhere. Of course afterwards I felt completely silly and like I was making up shit that wasn't there, but MH talked me down.
Then this morning DD didn't want to go to school because she misses her daycare friends. I don't even know how to help with that one. I don't know if any of them are still at her old daycare given the issues I stated before. ugh.

DS1 takes a bus to school as part of his IEP. This year, it is a legit short yellow bus with car seats. Daycare reports that he STOKED that he gets to ride a real bus. Itβs all heβs talked about for two days. π Childhood dream of riding a real bus complete at 4.5!
