flamingo welcome back. lahdeedah that's a long drive. I would be inclined to pass for just a weekend trip but it would be fun. tgrimes I hope you find out something from the doc. And that it's not chicken pox after all. WTH with your poor kids and their illnesses. mwhip I enjoyed season 1 of Mind Hunter (haven't seen season 2 yet). It's about the birth of forensic psychology and I'm a nerd about that. Holden frustrated me though with poor decision making.

The immunologist rescheduled our appt to the 12th. They don't want to risk infecting any of their other patients and appreciated me calling beforehand.

My kids' school is really taking their sweet time with teacher announcements. M starts next WED so they can't drag it out much longer.
I've been re-binging Veronica Mars so everything is fresh in my mind to watch the new season. I still love that show, but Veronica really annoys me much of season 3.

*snip* my kids' school is really taking their sweet time with teacher announcements. M starts next WED so they can't drag it out much longer. I know they have to wait for any late registrations, but I always feel like they do this to cut down on the time people can compare notes and potentially complain/ask for transfers, lol. Hopefully you'll get them soon!

Do the K teachers all get together, compare notes, and over a game of bunco duel to decide who gets what students?

I remember riding my bike up to the elementary school every day before school started to see if they had posted the classroom rosters yet. It was so exciting.

flamingo it was great! We really loved Camden & our little house was amazing, after that it was just one night of glamping (which I can recommend highly) and then Boston. We went to Fenway three times (once for a tour & twice for a game) and both the kids and us had a blast! I also got a ring in memory of the trip. It was made by a Boston gold smith, Rebekah Brooks, you’d like it I think, beautiful classic vintage/vintage inspired things.

Yes, homeroom classes change every year. You would never be with the exact same kids in following years. A few probably, depending on class size, but not everyone.

A few probably, depending on class size, but not everyone. Oh! I didn’t know that! Why is that? Kids here stay together from 1-6th grade and then usually 7-9 & 9-12th. Teachers 1-6 are usually the same each year (so there’s a 1st grade teacher, a 2nd grade teacher etc.). It is also possible that a teacher follows the kids, in that case they have the same teacher for years.

Wait you mean the combination of kids in the class changes every year? yup So in our school, for instance, there are 3 K classes with ~19 kids each. Next year there will be 3 completely different 1st grade classes. They mix up the kids each year based on the teacher and who they think would work best with them, what mix of kids works best, etc. This goes on till middle school, where the kids then change classes for each subject and are generally grouped by skill level. How does it work over there? Same kids all through Elementary school? Till what grade? How many sections of each class are there in a typical school?

Ahh nam2013 I see you already answered my question Edit - To answer your question - I think they mix it up to ensure kids get exposure to different groups of kids, different styles, etc. Some groups mesh well, some don't so in that case you are not stuck with a not so great class for 6 years, etc.

For ds this would be so stressful! He’s a kid who thrives on structure and predictability, not sure where he got that from 😉.

If friends stay together it is luck of the draw, and you can't request they stay together. I think there are also too many kids to keep them together every year. People move to the school and from the school so they need to keep classes balanced in number.

I hear in my school that is very frowned upon. His BFF is not in his class this year so I am hopeful that next year they are together. I just think it would be too hard to honor everyone's requests. Plus what if little Johnny's mom wanted him to be with Betty, but Betty's mom didn't want them together. I feel like it would just make it too difficult to keep everyone happy.

Here you can only make requests to not be with another kid, and if its reasonable, they'll usually honor it. Like sil and I had said if Jack and my nephew were in the same grade we would request they be separated. Because they tend to latch onto each other and would never make friends with others. Same with twins. M actually has a set of twins in his class and they didn't separate them for some reason. The mom said she told them they'd regret that lol.

When I was in school you could request teachers (it may not be honored, but you could at least ask). I grew up in a small town so my elementary school had just 2 classes for each grade. So there was a 50/50 chance of having your friends in class. Madison's school has 4-5 classes for each grade and is in a military community where a lot of kids move every year. For some reason, a few of the classes in her school stay roughly the same for 2nd and 3rd grade with continuing with the same students and teacher, but most of them switch up.

Well I survived 4 hours at the mall with the kids and they both did great. H was whiny at first but snapped out of it. I thought I’d regret not having the stroller but it was fine.
Old navy drives me nuts. I buy a lot of stuff online there and it’s so straight forward.. 40% off everything etc. but in store.. my gosh. 40% off this, 30% off that, this rack is $10. So confusing! Most of my stuff rang up 40-50% off but a few were full price so i left them and ordered them online for in store pick up and 40% off and went back an hour later to pick it up. Lol.
Now the kids are at my parents and I’m getting a much needed pedicure.

Seeing friends is what recess and lunch were always for. We always had assigned seating til middle school, then you just sat by someone you didn't hate.

I think they try to do sensory overload and you just overpay for everything..

Our classes mostly stuck together through elementary school, with a little variation each year. It seemed like they tried to keep core friend groups together. But this was a private school with only 3 classes per grade so I think it was a bit more personalized. I’m sure some parents made requests but mine never did.

slenle tallb I’m not a regular ON shopper but every now and then pop into the store, then remember why I’m not— b/c it’s always a wreck, lol. I have also noticed the bait-and-switch pricing; seems like Loft and JCrew do it, too, among others. Sounds like a wonderful trip nam2013! So glad you enjoyed downeast Maine

Last post... So we had B’s orientation and it went well! There are three other kids from his preschool (that we know of) in his class so far. Despite all the headaches we’ve had with this house, being there at the school and seeing so many friends/neighbors made me really glad we live where we do and switched to the preschool we did. We joined the PTA and also met our bus driver, who was lovely and will pick B up at our driveway! Come on, Tuesday!

Sounds like a wonderful trip nam2013! So glad you enjoyed downeast Maine We sure did! We also loved the Freeport area, there was a campground there on a working farm that was amazing called Wolfe’s neck oceanfront camping. ETA plus if you’d ever want to go outlet shopping this place is the best and cutest, because the constructions in the town are protected it all looks too cute & LL Bean organised a lot of fun stuff during the summer.
