I hate homework. They're not mature enough at this age to be responsible about it so it's on the parents. Maddie has had HW packets every week for the past two years. I always ensured that she did it but then she wouldn't turn it in. Or her folder would be lost at aftercare. Or whatever. It drove me nuts. They do enough worksheets during the day. Leave it to reading until they are old enough to manage it themselves.

Everything I have ever seen says that there is zero value until the higher grades (I think junior high, if not later?). Seems like one more thing that falls under “we’ve always done it this way so this is how it goes.”

Most school around here start in 4th.

Most school around here start in 4th. That's about the age I started homework. In 5th and 6th grade there were a few projects, but most of it was completed at school. By the time I got to 7th and 8th grade it was mostly math and reading. I was able to handle all the responsibility myself. My mom never had to oversee my homework. Since the workload growth was gradual I was able to manage learning how to organize and manage HW for multiple subjects.

I will read with my kid but DNW to do homework at this age. I guess he will have hw time at aftercare, so maybe I wouldn't have to do much.
A friend from college posted that her first week of k has been a disaster. She picked her kid up from aftercare and he had wet his pants bc he was scared to go to the bathroom and no one noticed. She was able to switch aftercares for today, but it makes me nervous.

We have homework. But it's super easy. I have a calendar with something each week day. Like count how many stairs are in your house. Repeat 3 sight words 5 times. I just have to sign off that we did them. Could do one a day, 3 a day, the entire week on the weekend, etc. Then turn it in by a certain date with parent initials. I think it's just to make sure we are working on the same kind of things they are doing at school.

I started watching the Missing on Netflix. It’s about a 5yo boy who went missing on vacation. In the first two episodes al you see is the parents despair. I couldn’t watch & skipped the first season and went straight to the second.

No homework as of yet. I do get a communication sheet on Monday explaining what they will be focusing on that week and she does say what we would help with at home. This week it was writing certain letters and spins some sort of pattern finding. He is always writing on his own so I’m not worried about that.
We have parent orientation Monday, so I should know more of what to expect this year after that.

I just tried to go get a Popeyes spicy chicken sandwich to see what all the fuss has been about. Apparently they are giving chick fil a a run for their money. There was a long line inside and in the drive through. I was too hungry to wait.

I went to lunch with N and she was super excited. The teachers like the flowers and treats I brought from trader Joe's.
My SIL and fam are coming this weekend, so trying to get organized. I legitimately had to dig out the guest room last night bc it's been a dumping ground for outgrown clothes, baby paraphernalia, etc. It's a scene. Hoping to get things in decent shape tonight before they arrive.

So this old dc mom who I'm "friends" with on FB posted this morning about how she works out at home and doesn't need a gym and blah blah blah. So I liked the post because, meh, why not. Good for her for working out at home. Yeah, I just got this super long message from her about how she saw I liked her post and about her "program" and am I interested in learning more and all that crap. Uh, no. I was just liking your post because good for you for working out at home.
I will never like posts again. At least not hers.

DD and T’s teacher assignments are coming today but we get mail super late so DD is anxiously waiting. There are only 2 classes in each grade and I like both teachers in both grades so I don’t really care who they get. I do know T’s 2 besties are together but be may be better off without them.

I have a dear friend from HS who posts a lot of cute pictures of her kiddos, which I enjoy, and a TON of talk about "the program" she and her husband are on and all the progress they and "their clients" made. I might snooze her for a while for a break from it all because it's overwhelming at times. I wish people had more insight that no one cares about that crap on FB. If someone really did they'd PM them asking what their secret is because she does look great, but jeez.

I figured the girls would enjoy the sides and I could get them some quick fast food mac 'n cheese. Nope There was 1 car in front of us, but after taking our order (that wasn't very big) we were sent to park and waited at least 10 minutes before they brought the food out to us. It was really weird. I don't know how ours stays in business if that's their normal operations.

If I was interested in your "program" I would message you or comment on your picture saying, yo, tell me about this program that made you kind of skinny. If I don't message you, then don't just assume my like means I'm interested. It was more of a pity like cause it was a sweaty picture of you doing a plank in your living room.

MH had a chat with the TKD owner yesterday and it went surprisingly well. They are more on the same page now--so hopefully even if it still is somewhat chaotic, communication will be better. His future of possibly taking over is still unclear to say the least, but he's going to continue for now and keep doing his schoolwork as a back-up plan. I'm good with that. I know he'll be slower to complete his schoolwork with also working part-time, but it will annoy me a lot less if he doesn't make much progress but is still working because I know it's not like he'd accomplish much more schoolwork otherwise.

Especially if they were waiting on chicken to be cook. That’s a good 15 minute wait at the very least.

DD’s teacher card came but T’s didn’t. I never use my pull in the district but I did today. T does not have the same class as his friends but like I said, I think he will get in less trouble this way (until he makes new friends to get in trouble with of course).

We are back from vacation. It was great but my mom 100% favors my sister's kids over mine or my other sisters daughter. She always has one of my nieces and it's pretty rare that she really engages with one of the other kids. C asked her yesterday why she loves *cousin* more than him. She started making more of an effort so hopefully it stuck with her. Like two days ago I was SHOCKED she offered to watch A while I showered (MH and the big two were elsewhere) and then I came downstairs to realize she had legit forgot about A and was playing with my niece's. My sister found A about to fall down the basement stairs and had him...

We had a little snafu at pick up. I stood in the group of parents waiting for their kid to come out...and after everyone was gone there was no H. So I went over to the bus area to see if she accidentally got taken other there, nope. I walked back and she was standing over by the door. Apparently she followed one of her classmates over to the playground and I didn’t see her walk past. It was chaos for a little while and I assume that’s why I didn’t see her. We had a chat about it so hopefully it doesn’t happen again, although after today she will be on the bus anyway.
She said she had a fun first day and made lots of new friends. I tried asking what she ate for lunch and she wouldn’t really tell me. I asked her if she missed me and she told me no, so rude lol.

I have no idea if H will get homework, her teacher didn’t really say. I do know I’ll be getting a folder home every Friday with info in it so I guess I will see what that has tomorrow.

I took the afternoon off to get a cut and color, followed by what may have been the best pedicure of my life. I feel like a new woman.
