Another shooting. I want to see gun control become a big part of the conversation among Democrats. I think this is an area Harris could really discuss well - she's a gun owner, she's stated her reasons for owning a gun, and she could speak to not only comprehensive gun control but what are the rights and responsibilities of a gun owner from a personal basis.

This one's in my back yard, guys. (Just over the border in NM.) I don't post much but GODDAMNIT. I had to go to Walmart right after learning of the shooting. Local PD was cruising the area and I burst into tears - comforted by their presence, horrified that it's necessary. This has got to stop. Hugs. I'm so sorry. The Virginia Beach shooting was less than a mile from where I grew up and where my mom still works. It's so upsetting and hard to describe that even when you know it can happen anywhere, how it hits you differently when it is close to what you know.

I haven’t been here in a while because I am on overload with the campaign nonsense and just general state of the world but this shooting today is really hitting me in the gut. Those were families likely back to school shopping and I can’t believe there is no political will to stop this shit.

The adjective he was looking for is “f*ing pathetic,” not funny. JFC.

Another shooting. I want to see gun control become a big part of the conversation among Democrats. If it helps, me, Julienne Moore and about 2,000 of our closest friends just spent 2 days planning our gun sense agenda for the year

ktg hugs. I know the feeling. I had a really hard time after the Gilroy shooting last weekend. I hate that so many of know this feeling. I hate that we live this way and it’s just a given now.

I'm with you ktg. It's only a few hours away from here. My sister and her kids were just there last weekend for a final trip before school. I'm just sick thinking of the innocent lives lost that were there getting groceries or back to school supplies or working. I'm just so angry that nothing will change.

I haven't posted here in a long time. I'm just sick over what happened last weekend and now today. I hate that you can't go shopping, to the movies, to a concert, to a festival and so on without a real fear of being shot. I'm just so angry.

I can’t even handle all of this anymore. It’s getting to where I don’t want to leave my house or send my kid to school. Yes, I speak with my therapist extensively about this. I do school/errands/work and all that stuff because I have to, but I’m so hyper vigilant every place I go.

Be careful on twitter, friends - there are surveillance pictures circulating of the alleged shooter going into the Walmart.
Unfortunately, I saw them (thanks for nothing, dude who retweeted them) - the tweet says confirmed but twitter is twitter; even if they turn out to be fake, they’re still disturbing. Wanted to give you the heads up.

Yes, Gilroy is too close to home for me too. 3 people from our Bay Area office were there that day, and 2 of them left literally minutes before the shooting. It’s a sickening feeling. I also find myself looking around DS’s school for weak points. And telling him what to do if someone has a weapon. He’s entering 2nd grade.

Reports are saying that authorities worry that some victims may be avoiding hospitals or the family reunification centers out of fear of deportation or ICE activity. This is so sad that we’ve fucked things up so badly.

I haven't posted here in a long time. I'm just sick over what happened last weekend and now today. I hate that you can't go shopping, to the movies, to a concert, to a festival and so on without a real fear of being shot. I'm just so angry. I’m here, too. My husband and I have started making sure we both know where all exits and entrances are when we’re literally anywhere. TJ Maxx, the farmers market, the grocery store... you literally can’t go anywhere without the threat of being massacred by white men with guns. We generally wear the baby when we’re out, too, to the extreme detriment of our backs, because we know it’d be easier for us to run with him in the Ergo than try to maneuver his stroller. I had a panic attack a few weeks ago at an outdoor ice cream shop because we were all standing around the yard next door to the shop, just eating cones and chatting, and all I could think was how easily it would be for some MAGA psycho to come rolling up in a car and start mowing people down. We were all just.. standing there. But this is America in 2019 where 20 people get killed at Walmart probably back to school shopping. We haven’t been back to the ice cream shop and frankly, we probably won’t for a long time. I say this as someone who was spectating at mile 26 during the Boston Marathon bombings. I saw unspeakable horror that day. I never in my life imagined that 6 years later, not a single thing in this damn country would have changed to make us safer.

lemondrop I am so sorry. A big group hug to all of us. These shootings hit close to home so many times and nothing changes except our own behavior to keep ourselves safer. I am so sad to think of how easily this one man could destroy lives. It's sick.

Huge hugs lemondrop. My aunt and uncle were at the Vegas concert and the things they have described from that day are horrific. My aunt struggles around large crowds/loud noises and it's so sad to see. They used to go to concerts all the time but now it is so hard for them. My heart goes out to all the survivors from these horrendous attacks and the long term effects they deal with. So much love to you ❤

As I was reading the horrific stories of the TX shooting yesterday I found myself thinking the horrible thought of “well at least OH is safe for now”. Then another mass shooting happened last night in Dayton in an area I know well. Fuck this shit. What is wrong with this country?!? Why are we doing this to ourselves?!?
I’m sorry to come in here after months of kind of avoiding the politics thread, but I just can’t bury my head anymore. Something has to change. It just has to. We are literally killing ourselves as a country and it’s horrifying. Nowhere is safe and our president and his cronies are stoking the fires of hatred. We have to get him out. Our lives literally depend on it!

We've been planning ways to come to the US for 6-12 months with the kids at some point, but honestly, I don't know if I really *want* them exposed to this kind of culture, where they are taught at school how to react when a gunman storms in and opens fire and then the athletic boosters raffle off handguns at the next fundraiser. No.

Tapper outlining guests who will appear on CNN to discuss the shootings this morning, and who were invited and declined:
Hmmm... can’t put my finger on what the difference is.... 🙄
