Morning we called a campground near lake placid to find out if their camping cabin was available (thunderstorms have been predicted and although I really love my tent, I do not love getting up in the middle of the night to stay safe in the car with two kids) and they told us that everything was booked and that the roads would be closed off until 6 because of a massive triathlon taking place. I’m so glad we called ahead! We decided to stay put for one more night and then head out there. We’ve done so much these last two weeks, can’t believe we still have 3 weeks left!

I'm feeling fine today. MH vacuumed and is off doing errands. I'm now waiting for the in laws to drop off E. I'm filling up the inflatable pool so he can play by himself later

nam2013 sounds like you are having fun and traveling smart. Yeah we are! The weird thing is, we always did the ‘not booking anything, following where the road would take us’ travel style when it was just the two of us and never made much of it. My parents did this too when we where kids. Now having the internet mostly available at some point during the day, it is throwing us for a loop, we know to much, we can research to much. Where we thought it would help us, it’s stressing us out knowing thunderstorms, rain, awful campgrounds are ahead of us. We need to relearn how to travel!

Yesterday was fun but long. Both T and C woke me up at different times overnight last night. C is napping now then we will go to the beach. Hoping to get some time alone to read on the beach later. Anyone remember when kids go from 2 naps to 1? I thought we’d be there by now but C can’t seem to make it without 2. He’s almost 20 months. I guess it’s all going to depend on the sitter’s routine because he starts in a month. I think I did the transition around 18 months but I would just follow his lead.

Hey. This morning dh to the kids to church with his parents and I stayed home. I did some work out in my garden but it started raining so I had to come in. After they were done, they picked me up and brought me to the IL’s house for brunch. We hung out there for a few hours. Now it’s nap time for S, and maybe me.

That’s terrible guster. Did you know her cousin? Yes, he’s a friend from high school’s older brother, so I knew him back in the day, and In more recent years I would see him at my bf’s family parties.

I’m back. Josie wants to swim, Charlie does not, so we’re setting up the water table so we can bounce between the two and everyone can keep cool.

They continued 2 naps on the weekends until almost 22 months.

After lion king we went to old navy. A friend gave me her super cash so, I got 2 dresses and Mara got 2 dresses for $30. Score!
Then she talked me into taking her to chili’s. She likes the game console so I’m drinking a margarita while she plays.

C: pretty sure I'm supposed to get wet today, so I need someone to take me to the pool. Me: go ask your Dad.
They've been gone about an hour now. 👍

T was thrilled because he always wants to make friends on the beach but won’t ever approach another kid. Today he was sitting in the little pool I got for C and some kid ran over and asked “is sand allowed in there?” When he said yes, the kid hopped in and announced to his dad that he wasn’t getting back out. His parents asked if it was ok and they stayed by their own stuff. I was totally fine with the kid being there but I need to make my own friends here. Everyone we have met is 50 or older, super nice people but no one else is chasing a toddler around all day. I did run into a former coworker last night but it’s his parents who have the house here.
DH is grilling now and there is a movie on the beach later. Hoping the kids will last for most of it or at least fall asleep on the beach.

We went mini golfing after naps. The kids did pretty well and I, surprisingly, got a hole in one. H was a bit of a sore loser at the end so we had to have a talk about that.

We survived Colin's crazy social card but poor Chase just wanted something for him. No riding on a golf cart, no balloons, it was even too hot and too late to stop by the playground right before nap. DH was being pretty tough on him for the incessant crying but I may have given him extra books and snuggles.

Got in a long workout today including some cardio on the treadclimber. My toe did okay. I was a bit tired but survived.
Watched some of The Act with my mom before she went home.
Got some cleaning done around the house (vacuum lines are a major source of happiness).
Went swimming at a beautiful rock quarry with a friend. The girls had a blast. There was also some type of festival there and lots of food booths. Fun day.

A and I had a good talk about changes we need to make in our parenting. The boys have been so so terrible lately. I think my ocd and anxiety is contributing to it and I need to find ways to cope better. MJ is feeling so much better now with the zantac. No more screaming or back arching. And she's actually getting satisfied so she went from nursing 4 times through the night to 2.

I'm hoping I can but I'm giving it a few more days before I test it. Mostly it is gripping that is hard. So no handies for a few days either

So mh and I just had a fight about finding an emergency contact for E for school. Once we switched to a school daycare we used our in home lady as the emergency contact. Our closest family is 2hrs away. Our school is .5mile away. I was saying we should ask one of the neighbor families that had a boy in K and she volunteers weekly in the classes. MH doesn't want to bother anyone who doesn't have an extra car seat or put them in that position. He also used the "I don't know them" argument. Well maybe get out there and meet the neighbors and find out who is playing with your kid? They are only 3 houses down. I feel like at this age I would be comfortable in an *emergency* asking this woman to take E home without a car seat. Not ideal but due to storms there is a real chance we could get iced in at work or stuck on the road.
For those who don't have family as emergency contact how did you pick someone? Any deal breakers?

I think your H is taking the emergency contact thing way too seriously Sunny41. I didn't even discuss it with MH. When I filled out the paperwork I choose my BFF because she's local and the kids love her. I informed her after-the-fact. Then I listed my mom. She's 3 hrs away but she can always be reached by phone if for some reason MH or I can't be. Like you said, an emergency situation in which both you and your H can't be reached is likely to be very rare.

I haven’t picked my local contact but my parents are his out of state one. The school requires an out of state one because earthquakes can reach far.
I think I would be fine with a neighbor that I know or has a kid lo’s age.
However, I’m not social with my neighbors. Most of them are older. The ones to the right are jerks who don’t like animals or kids. The ones to left the husband is nice and I do talk to him but the wife is not nice (she’s the one who questioned me about taking some trash out the day after the trash was taken)
But let’s be honest my job is less then 5 minutes away from LO’s school. If something were to happen, I would be the 1st one there.

Sunny41 we have my dad and SM as #1 and my mom is listed as well, however I also have my coworker who knows my kids who could actually be there within 10 minutes if there was an actual emergency. For k, I plan to add a few families that are at the school who could get there in less than an hour. I'm currently trying to map out how the kids will be taken care of when I have the baby, so I'm thinking about this a lot. Ask your husband if he'd be okay being an emergency contact for one of E's friend if there was a legit emergency? You can figure out the carseat issue or take two trips to get kids. Well I'm assuming he'd say yes, if not, that approach may not work...

We also have extra basic boosters if needed to transport another kid. It was around $12 at Walmart and hardly takes up any space. Fine for an elementary school aged kid in an emergency situation.

I agree with others Sunny41, I think a neighbor, who E is comfortable with, is a fine emergency contact, with a lack of family local. E knowing the other family would help calm him, in case of an emergency. The carseat would be a non-issue for me.

We have family that is closeby (20 minutes) but often busy or out of town. So our other contact is a friend we made from DC. It just makes the most sense.
But like someone else said, I just fill the forms out when I sign up, no matter what it's for, whether school, camp, DC. I don't know that MH and I have ever really discussed it, but I know he would be fine with it.
