I got word that DD's pedi is going to be leaving the practice at the beginning of June. This is the pedi that wanted DD to come in for a weight check at the end of this month and who I wasn't too thrilled with during DD's yearly appointment. I have been seeking recs for a new pedi but haven't pulled the trigger. Her leaving has sealed the deal because the other pedi is about as warm and welcoming as a brick wall. I'm unsure how to handle the weight check appointment. As of right now DD is still super picky and still varies on whether she'll eat day to day, but she has gained some weight and is otherwise healthy and developmentally on target. Would you keep the weight check appointment or cancel? Also, has anyone changed pedis? Since DD only goes yearly for appointments and then for quick flu shots in the fall would you wait until then to make an appointment? Or do you call now and say you want to switch? If DD is sick I would want to bring her to the new place but I don't know if I can if I'm not a patient yet. When is she due for the annual? I’m not sure what I would do about the weight check but I would call the new place and ask to become a new patient now in case there is a wait. I haven’t switched pediatricians but changed PCPs for myself and even thought my first appointment isn’t for months they sent me paperwork to fill out and said I could designate them as my PCP now for insurance purpose and that I could come in for sick visits prior to my first appointment. She is due in February. So it just happened. I think I'll call the new place Monday and set up an intake appointment.

I guess maybe sometimes I don’t take into consideration that she not even 2 yet. All of the children I treated at Children’s Hospital were at least 3. I was shocked DH wasn’t an ass about it.

You know what I should probably be doing right now? Get myself on daycare waitlists for a hypothetical new baby. Ugh.

We won’t talk about how long I was on the waitlist for this one.. Yea, the waitlists are crazy around here. We are happy with where J ended up but it was also the only place we got into after getting on waitlists when I was 4 months pregnant. And he'll be fine there for preschool and we can probably get a new baby in there as well so at least we'll have a decent fallback option. But we have been on the waitlist at our top choice for 2.5+ years now and expect they'll have a spot for him in their preschool program when he turns 3, but then we may have an infant at that point and infant spots are super limited and impossible to get.

Then if you have the funds for the deposit, I’d see if they’d work with you on securing a spot. We were technically on the list for a long time, made the deposit, but weren’t officially given the spot until we went “hey.. guess what?” They basically just bumped us down a spot each month we didn’t say something. We did have to tell them wicked early, though (like, the day I got my positive beta back), to make sure we solidified it. Luckily, our directors are tight lipped, so when I had my CP, they just silently moved us down the list again.

I just spoke with someone there and that's what she said - that I should get on the waitlist now. I think the waitlist is kind of moot but they'll move us up to the priority list once J gets in... so I'm still not sure how that will work out timing-wise but we'll just have to see.

sheilathetank, how is your kid doing with her new balance bike? I am super excited to give J his but I'm also trying to prepare myself for him to hate it. He is also super short so I think he will either be just barely tall enough or not quite.

I also took 85% of her toys away this weekend. So it's been going well around here.

The weather has been crummy here too. What happened (if you want to talk about it)?? She's just been a monster lately. Fighting everything. She spent Saturday night screaming, kicking, hitting, and throwing toys because she didn't want the TV turned off. So I took a huge amount of toys away. Then Sunday morning I asked her to pick out an outfit for the day (a task that she is more than capable of doing on her own) and she refused. Lost her complete shit. Screamed, pinched, threw more things so I took away her dinosaurs and trains which is a big deal. I know it's a phase but Its exhausting. I don't know how to approach it better either. I'm sure I'm failing her in some way. We do natural consequences most of the time and time out but lately it's escalated where that really does nothing. She did do well today at school and after and got to pick two toys to have back. I told her she can get the dinos and trains back at the end of the week of she's good all week. I'll give a little back each day she's good in the meantime. I hate to say this but I wouldnt be surprised if she has ADHD, given myself and MH's ADHD diagnosises. We thought she was fine for a hot second and as soon as we put it out into the universe it's like a switch went off and she can't and won't pay attention, behave, or get control of herself. But she's too young to be diagnosed so the best thing is to hope she gets into the public school program in the fall because they have a ton of resources. Sorry for the word vomit. Mother's Day sucked for the most part and I've been up in my feels.

sheilathetank I’d get on the waitlist for a developmental pediatrician now, to be honest. Around here, there’s a year long waitlist. We got DS1 evaluated a few months shy of age 4, and I know other 4 year olds getting evals for ADHD now

I’m really annoyed with our preschool special Ed program. We’re in a great school district, but whomever is dealing with DS1’s file is a freaking idiot.
When we moved and they got his registration paperwork, which clearly stated he had an IEP, the secretary calls to set up an intake evaluation... 😒 now, I’m getting paperwork saying we’re to have our transition to kindergarten meeting, but he has another year before he’s eligible for K due to a January birthday.
Yes, I know it’s not common for kids to do two years in an integrated program, but EI dropped the ball, so we started with the preschool special ed program earlier than normal. 😪 I’ll be making lots of calls tomorrow

sheilathetank I’m sorry that sounds really tough. You’re not failing her - it would be easier to give in but you’re obviously trying to do what’s best for her. Can you get a do-over Mother’s Day and take some time for yourself next weekend?

He used to sleep til closer to 7 and I don't know if he's just getting older and needing less sleep or if it's because it's getting light out earlier or if he's napping too much or what. He usually takes different toys and books to bed with him and he used to be better about hanging out in the crib for a while. I know I've been meaning to try ok to wake clocks for a while and I haven't yet but I'm looking into them again.

I just really like sleep. DS has always been an early riser, but it’s getting earlier. He’s killing me slowly.

Do I call and say DD has a high likelyhood of ADHD because both of her parents have a diagnosis? Do I have to go through my pedi for a recommendation? She's no longer eligible for birth to 3, but should I start there anyways? At what point is this normal 3 year old behavior and I'm trying to label my kid because of my own history?

When you say birth to 3, are you referring to early intervention? At age 3, you go through your school district’s preschool special education program for evals. For us, I simply had to call and explain my concerns (behavior + speech for us), and they provided us with info to get the ball going. I called our pediatrician and gave a run down of symptoms. He agreed an eval was warranted and provided a name of someone he recommended. I called that provider directly, gave them what our concerns were, and they scheduled the appointment. The long wait between call and appointment was the worst part of it. I’m not sure what normal 3 year old behavior is, to be honest, but as I’ve told others, I’m a huge proponent in asking for evals when you suspect an issue because the earlier it’s found, the better

He consistently sleeps 2 hours or so at daycare. When he naps at home it's between 1 and 1.5 hours, but every now and then he won't nap at all. Initially I was certain the longer naps were causing him to wake up early but the pattern doesn't appear that obvious, although I think it is still very possible. He usually goes to bed around 7:45PM.

I came up with a plan for a DIY ok to wake clock but it involves H designing and 3D printing a lampshade so that may not happen for a few months, ha. I thought he would LOLNO me but he said sure. For reals though I am probably going to just buy one.

Then I'll bring it up then to get a fresh, unbiased perspective and see if they have recommendations on who to see.

This one is reasonably priced with mixed reviews and it's probably fine. I kind of like this one which is a smart lamp w/ different colors that you can control with an app on your phone (mixed reviews on how well the app works). My other idea was to find a cute light and plug it into a smart outlet that I can program or to get a smart bulb w/ different colors for a lamp I already own (this is where a cute 3D printed lampshade comes in, so totally unnecessary).
