I guess I'm kind of a Meghan stan but I really don't mind her fighting back. In fact, I always thought the BRF should have been doing more to publicly support her from the start of those rumors. They were really vicious and calling into question her character as a person. What if the Cambridges had released a statement from the start saying none of the rumors about her or a falling out were true, she's a lovely person, and they couldn't have been happier to have her join the family etc. etc.? That would have nipped the rumor mill in the bud. Unfortunately, their attempts to take the high road and ignore it just allowed it to grow.
I think the BRF has to realize that the media has changed dramatically since the Queen was young. The "never complain, never explain" thing only works if you really and truly never complain or explain (which I'm pretty sure is only true for the Queen, lol). And it only works with a respectful bordering on reverent press, which again pretty much only holds for the Queen. I'm not criticizing the Cambridge camp for complaining by the way. Of course they should come out with outrage when Kate's privacy is invaded with photos taken up her skirt or rumors are made up about Will cheating, etc. My only point is that they could have done that for Meghan too and gotten a lot of support, I think.

maybe they should allow it. Also again Meghan's friends are American not British so I can see them not knowing "protocol" I also no doubt think it falls into the Meghan is the angry black woman so don't think that isn't lost on me. There’s no rules against it. It just isn’t done. The Queen Mum’s motto was ‘Never complain. Never explain.' And QE2 really lives by it and most of the others do to. They can do what they want but I reserve the right to think it’s strange. I think I'm coming in late to the party, but I think there's room for improvement with the media strategy. A 100 year old motto from the Queen Mum might be a bit out of touch with today's modern media.

Generally when they speak out it only makes it worse. Speaking out about the cheating has only cemented that he really did. When they were mad about the photos it made the press more thirsty for upskirt shots. The one time Will put out a press release for the paps the back off Kate when they were dating only made her more desirable. When Harry did it for Meghan it did the same. They can’t win it. If they came out with a press release insisting everything is fine what would it do?

Anyway, I thought it was a weird step not to just release the birth certificate. It’s public record anyway. It’s going to get out.

A statement from Will and Kate will Fix it all. They suck for not doing it. I'm not saying it's their fault (I really don't think they were the ones doing the leaking, if I had to guess it was probably someone or a group of people among the Queen's old guard staff) but yeah I stand by my opinion that they could have done more to publicly support her and Harry by extension. It's possible that they wanted to and were asked not to by Buckingham Palace out of fear of blowing it up and making it worse. I personally think that approach is a mistake though because like I said, it's pretty obvious that no one holds to the "never complain next explain" motto besides the Queen and that it's not working in any case. A more modern PR approach is needed to deal with the advent of social media. eta: I'm not sure why you are taking this so personally? I have *thoughts* on the BRF and their various PR strategies - some critical, some not - but it's not something I really truly care that much about. I post about them on here because no one else in my real life is that interested in them. I guess I thought others on here would be interested in talking about this as well but if this is just a place to post photos and compliments, I can go back to doing that too.

I will say again I am touchy about the racism/ angry black lady connotation and it colors my judgement for sure.
Angry black anything will get me considering that so's old managers often labeled him as "aggressive" despite him saying the exact same things as others

The Cambridge camp could come out with a dissertation on how great Meghan is but would it really make the rumors die? The media will shift the narrative however they want and for what will sell. Making the women bitter villains sells. Happy families don’t.

Also last thing on it. Even if it doesn't help Hollywood is very protect your own (unless it hurts your business) which is why I am not surprised that they do these things.

I think they think not giving the media anything at all is protecting their own. Diana gave too much and it’s made her family give very little in response. We all know my Diana, the boys, and the press theory.

If they came out with a press release insisting everything is fine what would it do? I think this happens because they're so selective about it, which is a mistake imho for people with jobs that are so public. By speaking to the press so rarely he calls attention to it when he does do it making it look like he's not being genuine or trying to hide something. His openly hostile attitude towards the press does not help and needs to go. If they had a more open PR approach and at least the facade of greater transparency and approachability, I don't think what happened with Rose Hanbury rumors would occur. It's the facade that's important imo. It's not like I think they should get on Instagram and start making daily stories about their private lives, lol. But I don't know why they have such hostility and disregard for how the game is played (I mean I do but that's something that should be worked out with a therapist and not pop up in someone's professional life). Fwiw, I actually like Will and Kate. Kate is my favorite royal by far. I just want to see them (well him really, I think William is the problem) get better at this. They could generate a LOT more public goodwill than they do. I know they supposedly don't care about that but shouldn't they? Isn't that in effect their real job?

I know that Meghan could put a stop to it, but I don't know that it would die down honestly

Making the women bitter villains sells. Happy families don’t. So they release a statement saying the rumors are wrong, they love Meghan, everything's fine then follow up with a leaked mention or a photo of all of them going out to dinner together like they did before the wedding. What's so hard about that? Why are they so against doing these bare minimum things that would make them more likable? It's extremely basic PR. eta: Just like the basic PR they did when they allowed the "happy family" photos to be published after the cheating allegations. So they're obviously not totally against doing that. And Will still looked extremely irritated in those! It boggles the mind.

I don't know. I don't think Meghan and Harry have to release anything they don't want to release. I don't think Will and Kate have to release anything they don't want to release. Even royals deserve privacy and to handle family matters internally. I also think it's odd to expect them to handle publicity, information, etc. the way that American celebrities do. It's a different world. I also think it's a lot to expect Will to get over his dislike of the press. It's been 20 years since his mother died, but it still was traumatic and not something I would expect him to ever get over. Harry either.

Not everything, obviously, but the public is in general why the monarchy still exists. I do think Will and Harry need to cater a bit more to the media/public than their grandparents and parents before them.

I hope you don't think this is what I was trying to say because it's not. Of course I think they deserve privacy! But if you see your SIL or DIL or even Grand DIL being unfairly attacked by a racially motivated press, why wouldn't you say something to defend her? Assuming the rumors about her being a diva are not true, which I don't believe they are. That's all I'm saying.
