I keep thinking of Rachel talking about a “regatta gala.” Because these seem like the kind of people who would actually *have* a regatta gala. I’ve been to a regatta gala

I love Will's comment about the sleep deprivation society. So true.

I love Will's comment about the sleep deprivation society. So true. Are Will and Kate really getting up in the MOTN? Do they have help for that?

Remember Anzac day, or whatever ceremony it was when Louis was like 2 days old, and Will was nodding off? I think they are involved parents and yes, that means they do MOTN. Yes, some nights they say "hey, night nanny, baby is fed and so please take him/her for the next 3 hours" but the babies aren't off in another wing of the palace like 1860.

But the real question, will they make their nanny wear this uniform? Because I still find this to be a heinous crime to commit against your employee.

I think Will and Kate are very hands on parents. Like their at home time is family time and they spend it with their kids.

Only at formal events like Christenings. And it’s required by the nanny agency, not the Royals. 1 event is 1 too many. Typically, they say the nanny likes wearing it. It is a sign of an exclusive nanny education. Of course, if the nanny didn’t, we would never hear.

I really feel like people need to stop thinking about home birth from an American side. It’s very supported in many countries with midwives that have crash kits, plasma, coagulants, hospital transfer at the ready. It’s not some lady with a birch branch and a bunch of oils that shows up. I mean the maternal mortality rate in the US is consistently higher than many westernized countries where home births are supported What about fetal mortality rate? Cause I wouldn't have died but my daughter would have without my extremely fast and emergency cesarean.

(Not commenting on the debate, just sharing what Google says.) Interesting. I would love to know the facts surrounding those statistics. Cause I can kind of understand a higher maternal mortality rate cause we do lack a lot of after birth care here for moms but it's hard for me to wrap my head around more babies dying in a hospital than at a home birth. And not being snarky btw just talking about facts and my own personal al anecdote.

Poor prenatal care, risk factors (drug use, smoking, etc.), overall wellness/nutrition of mother? I definitely don’t mean to take away from your experience. My sister’s and her baby’s life were saved by an emergency C-section (HELLP Syndrome) so I have strong feelings on it, too. I just think it’s maybe an apples-to-oranges discussion to compare a US hospital birth to a UK home birth, and then you add in the complicating factors of prenatal care often being so crappy here in the US — so many gaps existing for different socioeconomic and ethnic groups. I am talking off-the-cuff, though. I don’t really know enough about the two systems to compare.

They have help- 3 full time nannies. However, they’re said to be pretty hands-on and Kate is rumored to breastfeed, so it’s likely she was getting up pretty regularly at first. Standard royal disclaimer that we don’t really know because they’re pretty private.

For the purposes of this conversation though the two home births are not the same, in terms of support structure, provider abilities, and patient populations opting for them. Added: I’m not going to talk about it. Sorry guys.

If I were in Meghan or kate’s shoes, I would 100% hire a night nurse and not feel bad about it! I remember when our kids were babies, I’d actually get so depressed and anxious when it started getting dark every night because I knew that while pretty much everyone else would get sleep, I wouldn’t (I had problems with insomnia on top of nursing babies). Sleep is so important to mental well being.

I'd just like to ask that the mortality rate discussion be moved somewhere else if it's going to get more in depth, please.

Sometimes I dive into a topic without thinking first. I’m excited that we’ll have a name to talk about tomorrow!

Sleep is so important to mental well being. I would absolutely hire a night nurse if I could, without guilt. But just because Will and Kate have the means doesn’t mean we should assume they definitely hired a night nurse and never went through the same sleep deprivation everyone else did. Didn’t they skip the nanny for a while with George?

I think it's silly to assume that W and K didn't have any kind of night nanny or help ever. Because really, if you approached any new parents and said "hi, you have practically unlimited money. Would you like to spend some to get better sleep?" 99.5% of them would say yes. The other 0.5% are crazy or have unicorn sleepers.
But, it's also pretty obvious that W and K are hands on and raising their kids themselves. Kate took long maternity leaves and could very easily have bfed. So yeah, they've been up MOTN plenty. But less than I have, likely.
