I don’t know how NHS works. Is this 15k out of pocket? Do you have additional insurance that covers some of it?

I don’t know how NHS works. Is this 15k out of pocket? Do you have additional insurance that covers some of it? if you go private you pay out of pocket of have private insurance to cover it, usually private insurance doesn't cover births. Everybody can use the NHS for free but there's also a private system that runs along side it that's not government funded.

You guys. An Amazon package showed up today with this in it: www.realjoyriders.com/index.php/product/queen-elizabeth-ii-window-decal/MH stumbled upon it and randomly ordered it as a birthday gift for our good friend, who is a royal watcher like me. (She came over for brunch for the Sussex wedding, and MH sat in the back of the room, making fun of the hoopla and our fancy snacks.) I think he’s secretly one of us. I’m dying.

I'm still betting on a HRH Prince ... as the baby's styling. It doesn't make sense to do it any other way if they plan to elevate him and future children when Charles takes the throne.

My money is on Lord Firstname Windsor, Earl of Dumbarton.

Is the baby's last name Sussex or Windsor? I think technically they don’t have an actual last name but that W&K use George Cambridge for him at school? So theoretically it would be Steve Sussex. But I think also it’s formally Windsor-Mountbatten? Officially it's Mountbatten-Windsor. But given that he's the oldest son, he has the option of using one of his father's lesser titles, which in this case would be the Earl of Dumbarton. So he'll probably be known as _______ (my guess is Arthur or perhaps Aiden) Dumbarton.

Daily Mail so... you know... but: Duchess was taken to hospital by her security team under a cloak of secrecy Her plans for a home birth were changed because she was a week overdue Even senior royals were kept in the dark about secret trip to hospital on Sunday William and Kate are itching to see their new nephew, according to palace aide —- Meghan's hopes of a home birth were dashed when she was taken to hospital on Sunday by Harry and their Scotland Yard security team. The Mail understands that the Duchess of Sussex – who was a week overdue – was whisked off amid such secrecy that even senior royals weren't told. It is understood she was taken to a London hospital – most likely the Portland – where even a 'basic' delivery costs upwards of £15,000. Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie were delivered there. www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-6999067/Harry-Meghans-Scotland-Yard-security-team-took-private-hospital-birth.htmlI really feel this for her. Overdue babies going and messing up your best laid plans.

I'm really here for Steve Sussex.
I'm going to pass on Dumbarton. It's rather unfortunate of a name.

This is my bet. I just don't see Harry passing on the prince/princess titles. It feels different to me than Charles' generation because it's just the two of them.

HRH would be shocking to me since the Queen didn’t put out the paperwork for it.

So since it’s a boy doesn’t he automatically get a title through one of Harry’s lesser titles? Am I remembering that right? Like an Earl or something?
ETA - I see this has been covered during the kid’s bath time

I can see Harry passing on the title. Not all of QEII's grandchildren gave titles so it wouldn't be out of the norm.

I can see Harry passing on a prince title and just using the Earl of Dumbarton title, the way Edward's son uses Viscount Severn rather than a prince title.
The baby is 7th in line for the throne and it's not likely he'll ever get any higher. At some point he'll be an outlier like Prince Edward's children, and by then UK taxpayers will be wondering why they're paying for him anyway. Prince could just be a burden by that point.

I can see Harry giving the title a pass. But i can also see the Queen not offering since none of her other (non-Cambridge) great grandkids have titles.
ETA and by title i mean prince/ princess

HRH would be shocking to me since the Queen didn’t put out the paperwork for it. She still could though. I also think about the what ifs of Charles being king when future children are born. They would automatically get the HRH styling and it seems unlikely they would want that disparity between the children.
ETA: I also just want the baby to have the styling so I am holding out hope.

Did you have ice cubes? How do the Brits feel about ice in drinks? Yes. Our household was pro-ice. I remember having iced drinks but not ice *in* drinks, if that makes sense. Like the drinks would be stored on ice but not served with ice in the glass. A lot of our area was pretty Americanized though. Ice is not common. In fact, we spend a month every summer in the UK and even my british husband is like wtf is up with no ice and when we get home we both want lots of ice and cold drinks. Like, you can buy a drink from a store (like a gas station) from their fridge and it is always lukewarm. It's the worst. And the no a/c is painful. My kids sleep with fans pointed directly on them because it just can get hot. And this is when it's like 75 in the NE of England, which is super hot for them.

Daily mail is reporting Meghan did go to a hospital and births cost $20,000 there :::gasp::: There is a private hospital that 11 years ago cost $20k for a vaginal delivery with a one night stay. It is where all the celebrities have their babies, and I wanted to have my son there but the price was ridiculous, cause it went way up if there were issues. Edited to add I see now the hospital was mentioned, it is The Portland. I am sure that is where she went. Otherwise it is private wings of an NHS hospital and I think it would have leaked. The Portland is tight lipped.

I think they are going to pass on the HRH even when Charles becomes king. He has made a big deal about slimming down the monarchy and Kate and Will already have three kids. I think Charles is also the reason Eugenie’s husband didn’t get a title.

I'm relieved if she did go to the hospital. Totally anecdotal and I know all births are radically different but all three of my overdue babies had meconium and needed the NICU team at delivery. I was legit concerned for them. I had massive hemorrhage after I delivered and crashed. I had to be resuscitated and had three blood transfusions. I'm so thankful I was in a hospital. We almost didn't make it because DD came so fast (she's my first and only), I shudder to think of what would have happened if I wasn't in a hospital. I know she would have had the best care if she had delivered at home but in general home births make me so anxious. I get so worried any time I bear of someone planning a home birth. I am all for doing it however you want - unmedicated, medicated, whatever pushing position you want, eat your damn placenta I don't care. But I want everyone to be in a hospital just I case.

We lived near all the American bases in East Anglia, so it was definitely easier to come by ice and AC. I worked in one of the two buildings on our base that were air conditioned. H used to bring me lunch in the summer because even though he wasn't allowed all the way into the building, he could stand in the lobby. One year we were there it got into the upper for a few days and it was killer.

Yeah, I lived in London for 3 years so 3 summers - the first was miserably hot and I saw every movie there was so I could sit in an air conditioned movie theater. The next one I was pregnant and it was freezing, which I loved. Then the third I had my son and it was perfect. The last two summers we have been there it has been way hotter than normal.

I really feel like people need to stop thinking about home birth from an American side. It’s very supported in many countries with midwives that have crash kits, plasma, coagulants, hospital transfer at the ready. It’s not some lady with a birch branch and a bunch of oils that shows up.
I mean the maternal mortality rate in the US is consistently higher than many westernized countries where home births are supported

Godmothers Jessica, Amal, Serena. Please please please let this be the flashiest christening ever. I don't think I knew you could have multiple godmothers. Or godfathers. I thought it was just one of each. Maybe that's just for commoners. George has 7 godparents, I believe. Charlotte has 5 or 6. So they definitely have multiples.

I agree baby Sussex won’t get a Prince title, I’m surprised Beatrice and Eugenie did! Andrew is 10 years younger than the Princess Royal and 12 years younger than Charles... he probably is like my MIL and felt entitled because he was oldest between him and Edward. Charles and Anne were probably away at boarding school by the time he was born and not being the heir, things were probably different for him than they were for Charles, especially with Phillip!
But I digress! With W&K having 3 kids, and Charles wanting to streamline the monarchy, I don’t foresee the Sussex children with prince(ss) titles!
