The John McCain case was strongly challenged though, if I recall, so I see where the confusion comes in. Especially since the answer was that since he was born on a military base it IS US soil. It wasn't taken to court though. It was debated by political people, but no one seriously challenged whether or not he could run. I think it would have to be challenged by Congress, not by a private citizen.

Okay, I have since Googled. I don’t think I’m confused, but I was admittedly not a very good con law student. Wiki, at least, says that there is still argument among legal scholars about whether the question has been resolved, but that it’s always been rendered moot (through lost primaries like George Romney & Cruz, McCain’s 2008 loss, etc.) Anyway, this is a super-hypothetical, and I am open to correction. It probably seems that I’m really argumentative today, but I’m just avoiding doing laundry. Basically, yeah. It's all theorectical. But I highly doubt a major party would pick someone as their candidate who would lose in court. I think it's just something political nerds (and I say that as one) like to debate for shits and giggles.

Can you imagine the shit storm if President Jason Windsor(?) renounced his UK citizenship to live in the US and run for president? Interesting. Jason Sussex? I like Jason Windsor better. Better yet, Jason Markle.

We’ve gone down a rabbit hole about your next 35-plus years!

I think it would have to be challenged by Congress, not by a private citizen. I'm not sure who would challenge it. I don't think the Constitution even defines who can challenge it. I would imagine that the candidate for the opposite party, or another primary candidate could challenge it, as they would be most affected by an unconstitutional candidacy.

This is me, too. I was busy posting in the GoT E4 thread. I know, priorities... But I teared up watching that video with Harry.

DS1 has a birth certificate from the US Consulate. The person who presented it to us emphasized that it would allow him to be president some day as if that had been a really big concern for us. Maybe he’ll run against Bobby Sussex!

King George and his cousin POTUS Bobby Jason Sussex greeted each other warmly on their first state visit. ”Their wives seemed more reserved. Could this be the sign of a royal-presidential cat fight?!” The more things change.

What if George marries my DD, and *she* becomes president? I would imagine the future queen consort would have to renounce any non-UK citizenship, so the presidency would be out of reach. Now, that's not to say she could become president first, meet a single George, and then fall in love and get married. Now there's a fanfic waiting to happen.

The congratulations from Thomas Markle, who lives in Mexico, came via a prepared statement he released to the media.
"I'm delighted to hear that mother and child are doing well," he said in the statement. "I am proud that my new grandson is born into the British royal family and I am sure that he will grow up to serve the crown and the people of Britain with grace, dignity, and honour."
“God bless the child and I wish him health and happiness, and my congratulations to my lovely daughter Duchess Meghan and Prince Harry, and God save the Queen," he continued.

That sounds uncharacteristically put together and on point for TM.

The ghostwriter will likely remain a mystery until they complain that the ghostwriter didn’t miraculously cause Thomas & company to be welcomed into the inner circle of the BRF.

Eh, from the time I said we should go to the hospital and my first biological child was born was just over an hour. I went from 5 cm to 9 cm in 20 minutes and my water didn't break until my kid was crowning. I can see a super fast delivery for Meghan.
