"Since abortion is outlawed in 5 states (I believe) at first heartbeat detection, child support should ALSO start at the same time, including required billing of 50% of the medical bills.
I wonder how many mens’ opinions would change when they actually had to take responsibility"

But as men make most of those laws and hold the power we know this would never happen.

This admin and its offspring are suing the oversight cmte/congress over the demand for their tax returns. But doesn't Congress have a legal right to see them? I don't know what they think this is going to accomplish besides delaying the inevitable. (Yes, I know that's Trump's MO. Tie it up as long as possible so the people you're suing drop it.)

I am very pro legalization of marijuana and have been my entire adult life. I am very educated on the topic, having grown up around marijuana usage and growing.
However, I am deeply concerned with what I have seen in CA since legalization.
I’m short on time, so here are some quick thoughts:
Taxes:
- tax rates are exorbitant. Fair enough. The state saw an opportunity and went with it. BUT for people using marijuana and marijuana related products for health benefits, they are likely being priced out. We had medical marijuana for a long time before recreational legalization. How has the price changed for medical users and is anyone looking at that? Especially since insurance doesn’t cover those treatments even though they are often lower cost than traditional medical interventions
- where are the excess taxes going? In Colorado, when the tax revenue exceeded a certain amount, the voters got to choose where the excess revenue went. I wish we had that in CA.
Racial inequity:
- dispensaries have to be permitted, most small cities are taking a NIMBY approach. So we are seeing large dispensaries being successful. Like the Starbucks of dispensaries kind of thing. Well, those are funded by rich white guys. Literally the most successful one in my area is funded by a group of super rich (think former athletes and CEOs). Are they being held accountable to hire diverse workforces? Are they paying a living wage? Are they giving back to communities ravaged by the war on drugs?
Justice:
SF went back and automatically cleared sentences of some 8,000 people who were previously convicted for low level drug charges related to marijuana. They had to use an data consultant and a lot of resources to do so in a somewhat timely manner. IMO this should be mandatory and not left to the discretion of local DAs and the tax revenue should be used for this if needed.

NEW: Cummings responds... “The President has a long history of trying to use baseless lawsuits to attack his adversaries, but there is simply no valid legal basis to interfere with this duly authorized subpoena from Congress...” t.co/ZHCrvHy0vy

I think there are a lot of issues and considerations to be worked on regarding legalization of marijuana, but overall I'm in favor. jaygee, the same thing happened in CO with the "chain store" shops popping up. There is a lot of money to be had in the business of weed, and I'd like to see better representation and start ups.

And, look, I’m a capitalist. I don’t begrudge people making money. But if we are essentially setting up a new industry based on a substance that has been weaponized against people of color, specifically Black people, lets do so in a thoughtful way and demand certain conditions. It’s going to be too late at some point and will be seen as overbearing regulations once the industry is established.

Yeah. I support legalization for a lot 9f these reasons even though I never plan to smoke it. Especially the increased revenue here in IL and the smaller prison population

Was thrilled to see Warren's policy goal to forgive student debt. Could so easily use that extra money a month. It's capped at $50k which is awesome for the vast majority of borrowers. Just made me bummed. I will never not be paying student loan debt.

Did anyone see the take on Warren’s proposal about how it would be a slap in the face for those who already paid their loans? Come On. If we can make it better let’s make it better. Not keep it the same because others have already dealt with it. That got ratio’d so hard. It’s just a stupid take.

I get that I'm privileged in a million ways. But student loans are the reason I don't own a house.
