The other post got me wondering...it sounds like a lot of you don't drink until your kids go to bed. We've always drank (drunk?)in front of DD6. She goes to breweries and other places where our friends are drinking we also have a bar with taps in our basement. Typically no one is drunk-but she probably has seen it a time or two.
DH believes it's showing responsible consumption but I wonder if it normalizes it too much and we should change our practices.
Just curious everyone's thoughts.

it would be so hard to day drink on the weekend if I didn’t allow myself to drink in front of my kid.

We drink in front of our kids, always have. I agree with the "responsible consumption" example. We don't ever get drunk, like never.

Yes, we drink around our kids.
We also have their birthday parties at our house so we can drink with the other parents.
Our kids attend neighborhood parties with us where the attendees drink.
No one is fallout drunk. We are not harming our children.

The first time I heard DS1 read something was when he sounded out "Shock Top" from my beer bottle.

We drink in front of our kids all the time and I’ve never given it a second thought. Occasionally I’ve been buzzed* even, but as DS1 has gotten older and more aware, I don’t get buzzed around him anymore.
*No, I was not caring for my kid by myself when this happened. In case clarification is needed.

We drink in front of our kids, but it's very, very rare for it to be more than 1, maybe 2 drinks. I think it's important they see that alcohol can be consumed in responsible quantities and enjoyed by many adults.

H works in craft breweries. My kids definitely have seen us drink in front of them. I basically go to bed when the kids do, so if I waited, I would probably drink a lot less.

We drink in front of the kids. I'll have wine with dinner, MH sometimes has a beer when he gets home from work, we take the kids to breweries and distilleries. My parents were the same way, too.

We do when out to eat or during parties/cookouts, etc. If I have a glass of wine or beer during the week it's usually after kids bedtime just because of being busy doing after school and bedtime stuff. I do have a wine bar off of our living room and the kids have never messed with it or tried to drink anything alcohol related.

"bwu-wee" was one of DS's first words...it meant "let's go to the brewery and get chips and hang out with Dad".

We drink normal amounts usually in context of meals, restaurants, sitting outside at the end if the day. Always with the kids around, not hiding it at all. But not excesses.
Once they were older they could have a bit of wine at home with dinner and special occasion champagne etc.
When oldest turned 21 we let him try different alcohols at home and we made some mixed drinks. More so if he went to a bar he wouldnt order an expensive thing that he already knew he didnt like. Like martinis ate not his thing. He learned he prefers rum and ipas often taste like pinecones to him lol.
We have quite a few alcoholics in dh side of family. So we are careful to not make any associations between this thing means there must be alcohol. youve had a hard day and need alcohol to relax after the day is done and kids are in bed or whatever. Or there's a party/get together so there must be alcohol. Or you go out to eat so you must have a drink with each course. Moderation and not daily drinking.
Just that sometimes drink pairs well with this food or activity but isnt a necessary part of any day.
Mine are older and they have seemed to have good heads on their shoulders about drinking.

Not of the drinking variety anymore, but I would crack one while DS was still up.

Oh and breweries and pubs are 98% of where we take our kids to eat. Our local Flying Saucer servers are on a first name basis with my oldest kid.

Yes, we drink with the kids around, whether it is at home or out to dinner. DD1 knows what wine is and that it is for adults. We drink responsibly. I don’t see an issue.

My parents never drank in front of us but I’m pretty confident that was because they couldn’t afford it. They drink all the margaritas in front of my kids at Mexican restaurants now.
I don’t typically drink around my kids but that’s because I’m not really a big drinker.
MH has beer around the kids. Doesn’t bother us one bit.

I’ve never even really thought about it. I wouldn’t have her around people who were overserved, but we drink in front of her.

We drink in front of our kid (within reason, of course), and I’ve literally never thought twice about it. Our area is full of family-friendly breweries, distilleries, and wineries, so those are routine outings for us.

Yes, we have a glass in front of the kids. Wine is a big part of the culture here. DD cheers me with her water during apéro. She also cheers me with her cheese 😂
I wouldn’t feel comfortable having more than a drink while watching my kids alone. I usually wait to drink anything until the kids are asleep.

We don't. I don't day drink though, & probably only drink every couple weeks or so. When I do drink I like to get tipsy, (doesn't take much), & though I act fine I'd rather they not see that. If I were to have a drink at a family gathering or something & they were around I'd be okay with it. But no to them being at straight up parties with our friends or seeing drunk people.

I feel like alot of people on here indicate that they are waiting until after the kids go to bed before they have a drink. Not any particular poster, just that from a statistical standpoint I don't think that many are really waiting. I mean, an evening cocktail is what makes the put down bearable some nights. Plus, I like to have a glass of wine or cocktail while I'm cooking dinner.
A drink or two does not inhibit my ability to successfully parent.

I drink in front of my kids. I just usually wait until they are in bed because H works most evenings and I’m on my own with two toddlers. They are in a constantly trying to murder each other phase, so waiting until bedtime just makes it less likely I’m going to spill wine all over myself while chasing them around.

We do--casually at home, at restaurants, family functions, kid birthday parties, the zoo. But not so much that I'm not able to parent (or drive, if I'm driving). We took DS1 to a college football game last season and tailgated before the game.

Yes, no hesitation in drinking in front of my child. I don't drink often, but it's not a big deal to have a couple of drinks in front of her. I can't remember the last time I was drunk. If I'm drinking to get drunk, def would not be doing that in front of her.
Same question for those that indulge in....garaging....are you typically doing this after they are in bed? I'm not talking about taking a hit in front of them....moreso being around them after you have indulged?
