I don’t know Schwans. Am I rich? Or poor? Neither. You can’t get it everywhere. It’s frozen food you get delivered and keep it your chest freezer. I think based on experience it is not available in urban areas or the most affluent areas.

My dad took me to the race track because I liked horses and he liked drinking/gambling. Every year we toured the Budweiser plant in Columbus while my mom was at a conference. The largest U.S. brewery outside of Colorado!
We could smell the hops from our house.

In junior high, I took a cross-stitch class as an elective. I made a cross-stitch portrait of this boy I called Wheels. He was a dirty grunge kid who was in a wheelchair and for some reason, I had a massive crush on him. I worked for days to get his likeness just right. And then I gave the portrait to him one day after school. He still ignored me after that. The weirdest part is that I'm 99.9% sure he didn't actually go to my school...he just showed up sometimes in the hallways after school. I have so many questions and I'm not even sure what they are or where to begin. brux before you answer any follow up, please look him up on Facebook and see where he is now

If I get an epilogue on Wheels, I will be so happy.

A guy I went to high school with grew up to be a Scwann's man - it was awkward the first time he came to our door. Present day Scwann's seems pricey - I'm guessing it wasn't over priced during my childhood or my mom wouldn't have bought so much of it. I can remember going to the doctor as a child and my mom being perplexed as to why I'd started gaining so much weight and had high cholesterol because it's not like I ate that much candy or anything. Looking back, it may have had something to do with the bagel dogs, personal pizzas, or chicken biscuits that were my daily after school snack (aka, extra meal for the day).

I think some of you were too young for the broke down McD playground. Let the grownups talk. I was just gonna say. These were the days where play places and playgrounds were solid. The kind where you can get a real injury. None of that foam ground shit. Damn I feel gangsta.

Anyone remember the fruit truck that delivered fruit? Almost like an ice cream truck? Might be a Chicago thing. Or an old thing.

I had many found memories of Pizza Hut but they are overshadowed by the night my friend and her bf took me there for dinner without me realizing that it was a setup. When we left for the movies the bf's friend crawled in the back seat with me, put his arm around me, and asked me out. Dude had just worked a shift making pizzas...and was either covered in parmesan cheese or had forgotten his deodorant. I had to ask my friend to open her window while trying not to vomit in her bf's car. I couldn't eat Pizza Hut for years. Damn boys ruin everything.

Did anyone else have a park like this near them? Ours was exactly like this and so much fun. By fun, I also mean slivers and wasps We raised money when I was in elementary school to build one in town. It was amazing. Then they tore it down and put new equipment in because the creosote soaked wood is apparently not good for kids. 😬😂

You weren’t playing right if you didn’t play on this I hope that is the chunky rock sized bark so you get splinters and not the mulch they use now.

Except our metal slides were much higher off the ground, like twenty feet long. And over pavement, not wood chips. The 70s were not safety conscious.

You were lucky if there was gravel so you could slide and maybe that would absorb the force. Instead it just ground that shit into various body parts.

Ground Round and Friendly's with my grandparents was where it was at. Sometimes though we would go to BK because they had to get their old people fish sandwiches. I grew up in RI so we did Newport Creamery a lot too. Whenever I see the meme about you know you grew up poor with sliced bread being your hot dog bun, hamburger bun etc 8 think. Um, no that’s just a Newport Creamary burger.

Oh god speaking of nostalgia... my nanny used to bring us to Chili's all the time. I want to say this had to be around middle school? Anyway, the Chili's salad with honey mustard dressing and then the boneless buffalo wings were the height of amazing dining to me. That has... not held up to the test of time. And in the continued questionable eating adventures of my pre-Connecticut life, there is another place in Pittsburgh called Eat N Park and I used to get iceberg lettuce with catalina dressing and I felt so sophisticated eating salads. I'm going to google what the fuck catalina dressing even is... I almost don't want to know. MH and I were just talking about how Catalina dressing was the choice of our childhoods and now it’s like.... what the hell was that? I still put Catalina on my Taco Salads. For nostalgia purposes. (And crunched up Doritos because sometimes I like to eat like a 12 year old with a perfect metabolism.)

I want to get in on the ground level. for $25 you get listed in the credits. for $50 you get a t-shirt with a re-creation of my Wheels cross-stitch.
