I'm finishing up reports and then picking up the baby shower cake after work. Talk about unorganized. The cake lady is a friend of my coworker. She made her a valentine's cake and it was seriously the best cake I've ever tasted. She just does this on the side but you'd think she could reply back to my text on how much I owe her and what time it will be ready...

So the office manager went off at the partner meeting yesterday. I guess someone was late, so the others were just chitchatting and she got pissed and felt her time was being wasted. She basically yelled that this wasn't her firm and she wouldn't even be here in 5 years. Which got me thinking.....what does she know that I don't. I think I might want her job....
So now I'm trying to brainstorm what classes, etc. I might need to be up to speed with what she does. What do your office managers do? Like computer programs and shit. I think Quickbooks, some accounting, she deals with our insurance, so I'll need to become knowledgeable in that. Hmmm...

Hi!
M has Trojan day - field day- today at school so he was pumped. He has soccer at school this afternoon and then a tball game at 7pm tonight. I hope he passes out soon after we get home tonight.
I’m at the doc now for M2. He has had what looks to me like heat rash on his abdomen for a month now that has gotten worse and spread down to his legs. It’s got to be more than just that, so we’re getting it checked out and I’m hoping there is something she can give him to make it go away. It doesn’t bother him at all, so I’m not sure what it could be.

Morning. Went to the office today, not sure it was a smart move... I left at two and am currently running a bath. The kids are at my parents (they always are on Friday, since normally we’re at work) so I can rest a bit. Dh is picking us up dinner, which is nice.

Morning and happy Friday! The game was delays 2 hours due to rain yesterday. We were all cold and wet...after 2 innings, Evie was basically done, so we left. I was so happy to get home and change into warm dry clothes. Work is slow and quiet today. Most of the office and production staff is off since we are doing a physical inventory next week. I hope those of us that are here, get to leave super early! klong11 When I was an office manager, I basically knew a little about everybody's job, A/P, A/R, customer service, HR, so that when anyone was out, I could easily cover for them. I did all the admin work, plus purchasing, then all the other stuff. I enjoyed it because needs constantly changed and the days went fast. It was great experience on my resume until I decided to focus on one aspect of it. It sounds like you have an idea of your offices needs, so try to get hands on training while you can. |

After a pretty good day yesterday, I feel horrible today. I was cold all night again and woke up with stomach troubles. DH is working from home and got the kids to school. C is napping. I’m sad because we planned on heading to the new house tonight but no way am I going to be able to.

IME Office Managers are one of those jobs that differ greatly depending on the company. Some do accounting, some manage all the admin type people, some are really Admins with a better title, some do HR, some do project management, etc. I'd start to just figure out what she does and ask questions. As to insurance, I deal with that here, and I am not that knowledgeable, however, we our agents are great and really guide me through much of what I need to know. |

I don't know if it's everywhere in Jersey or just my area, but yesterday there were apparently 200 kids absent from our High School with the stomach bug, and at least 40 more were sent home mid day for vomiting at school. It's awful. It's spread to the middle schools and elementary schools and I am just waiting for it to hit day care since there are so many kids with older siblings in the school system. It's bananas. There are only about 1000 kids in the high school... so 25% have a stomach bug?? Crazy. |

Could it be food poisoning? someone suggested that, but then parents were posting that their kids don't eat the school lunches and they were sick too. Teachers are out too. And apparently the bug lasts for a few days too. It started late last week with just a few kids and has been escalating till it seemed to have hit epic numbers by yesterday. |
