We're in a decent-sized city, so I can't imagine newspaper would be the most effective way to reach young families here. I think the official K orientation event in April (where you actually register) will be more organized in terms of info, advance notice, etc., but this event was admittedly pretty casual. Hopefully now that we've attended one and provided contact info we'll be on an email list for the future. cagoldi hmm, that's tough when not everyone is on the same page. it must be frustrating to feel like you're getting the run-around a bit with the recommendations being 'modified', etc. I can't imagine that most 2 y.o.'s aren't "self-directed" to an extent, lol, what a dumb observation to make.

Yeah. cagoldi I would be annoyed, too. If the ST thought that after the fact, she should have called herself so you could have had a conversation about it.

I've been planning A's first and Lue's 3rd bday party and I'm so excited. I think they're both going to be so cute! What’s the theme?!

A's is Mighty Arlo (what my mom has called him since he was born so tiny), general superhero them, lots of red, blue and yellow. I got all the kids monogrammed capes! L's is sprinkles (her choice!). Thinking vases filled with sprinkles and flowers, sprinkle treats, I got her an adorable skirt that has pom poms in it that looks like sprinkles. Any ideas for H???

I have serious dentist fear and haven’t been for cleaning and xrays in a year. I scheduled them for the end of March but called yesterday because I have been having some sensitivity in a tooth for a while now and when I was chewing yesterday it bordered on pain.
The dentist thinks I have a cracked tooth and an infection. I have to see the specialist for a route canal on his first available 3/14 and started antibiotics. I am not convinced it’s cracked though. I only know animal teeth but looking at the xrays I wasn’t convinced. There is an infection though so something is up. I got a filling there in Dec 17 so the tooth is somewhat compromised. Anyway he said if the specialist thinks the crack is too far down, which he says it’s borderline if it is a crack, then they have to pull the tooth! It’s the tooth right before my back molars on the bottom so not exactly invisible if it’s missing. I’m trying not to freak out.

I’m so sorry, cagoldi. Is it worth a conversation so that your concerns are heard and all the therapists are on the same page?

Ugh wedding I feel your pain! I also get super anxious for the dentist! Like upset stomach and all. But this reminds me I need to find a new dentist. Ours ghosted us. I had an appointment scheduled last month but my H was going to go instead of me because I had just been off several days with S. When I called to switch the appointment to MH the number was no longer in service. Then I did some internet sleuthing and discovered they closed their doors but didn’t call anyone.

Ah cute! wineallthetimeH is requesting an eagle birthday. As in bald eagle. Lol. Soooo maybe more of a camping theme? I also have no idea who to invite or where to have it. Probably just a family party at the house. When N turned 3 she had a whole list of friends she wanted to invite and we had it at the children’s museum, but h doesn’t really talk about friends, so we might as well get another year out of keeping it simple.

wedding, I get it. I get panic attacks when it comes to the dentist. I don't mind as much when they're actually doing something, but panic going thinking they're going to tell me every tooth has a cavity and is rotting. That being said, I hope it's nothing major! Have you had a root canal before? I have and honestly it wasn't bad at all. I also always get the gas which helps me tremendously.

Not sure if that'd be an issue for you, and I know it affects everyone differently. It mostly makes me feel like I have no care in the world. However, I got a root canal while pregnant (I have had 2) and didn't get gas that time and, for me, it was longer than a filling but felt similar.

wedding I have stopped going to my dentist because the last 3 times they have billed us wrong so I have determined to find a new one this year. Thanks for the reminder. I actually have a pain very similar to yours and I'm pretty sure it is cracked but was only faintly visible on the xray before I stopped going. Not all places offer gas so if you want to go that way you might have to call around. I've had a few root canals and wisdom teeth removed. Mostly annoying is the sound of the drill but don't hesitate to ask for more numbing in the middle. Remember the pain before is usually worse than the procedure.

cagoldi did you talk directly to the ST or did someone else call? Maybe talking to her directly you can get her on the same page. Sorry it is frustrating I talked to the behavioral therapist, and he also said he thinks it’s appropriate given the DX of DD. I’m calling bullshit. The neurodevelopmental pedi recommended PT/OT/ST. It’s not standard practice to do behavioral modification for that DX. The ST called in to question the DX, which I thought was unprofessional, and I think she is trying to backdoor ABA. Like he is not diagnosed as autistic, so there is plenty of time for that if it ends up being the case. What is making me really upset is that I feel as if she is wanting to train his personality out of him just for her convenience. That’s inappropriate and dehumanizing. You can’t do ABA just because a two year-old doesn’t want to sit there and pick out flash cards for thirty minutes, you know? And I KNOW this is not just my wishful thinking that my kid is an angel with no problems, he is truly a delightful child. If he had any problems rising to the level of requiring ABA, I would certainly be hearing something about it from his teachers who are with him forty hours a week.

cagoldi that sounds extremely frustrating. You’re doing a amazing job advocating for your boy. Even if he was a self directing 2yo, show me one that isn’t at least in some level. My knowledge of ABA is lacking at best, but it sounds very intense for a 2yo. Is it possible to voice your doubt and reevaluate in a year or so?

Hey. Sorry I wasn’t here today. S had school this morning and H took a long nap. She isn’t doing a great job of drinking but otherwise seems to be doing well. I worked this evening and it was pretty quiet. cagoldi I’m sorry the ST is demanding things. Could you find out if she would be willing to do one (or a couple of) session with him before resorting to ABA?

I was almost asleep and then E called me because he was puking. So laundry is going, he's marked out sick tomorrow, and I can't sleep. No fever though so hopefully a one off but unlikely. And I feel a little queasy but I'm not sure if that's from cleaning up.

cagoldi Is it possible to get another opinion from a different office? Your frustration is completely understandable and I'd call them and talk to them about it.

I'm sorry you're dealing with that cagoldi. I've known more that one ST who has difficulty staying in her lane so I guess I'm not really surprised. I would also see if there's another ST you can work with and emphasize you want to stick with the plan already developed. Way to advocate for your sweet boy.

Thanks for your support, girls. I do really appreciate you. I have no idea what I’m doing, but I do know what she is saying about him just doesn’t match up with reality. It’s like they heard ASD in reference to X and they can’t change direction so now they are trying to squish a square peg in a round hole. Thanks, chrisy01, that means more than you know because I am positive you would tell me if there’s something I am not seeing. Love you. ❤️

Love you. ❤️ I have found that therapists and teachers are quick to jump to ASD. S does not have that that diagnosis, but it is mentioned a lot by her therapists and teachers. They often ask if it's been mentioned or if she's been tested. They also tell me quite often not to be afraid of the diagnosis because it would open more doors for services ect. But it is really annoying. The people who specialize in it say it isn't a concern, so let's move on and focus on what we know and what we have in front of us!

Re: working with another ST, definitely.
Once I have their full reports in hand, I will call the behavioral therapist and with all the diplomacy I can muster, tell him I am most comfortable with the plan we originally discussed the day of the evaluation.
So we’ll see how that goes.
I think, if they really wanted to, they could say they don’t agree to provide ST unless he does the ABA also. If that’s the case I will have to see about a different office doing our therapies, I think. It’s a little tricky because this is the provider that we were sent to through the county’s early intervention program.
This sort of solidifies my opinion that it’s going to be important to get him transitioned to public preschool in August because I am certain they can’t withhold ST if we aren’t doing behavioral interventions, right?
