kim22 congrats to DS on the goals and assist. Can I ask when he started playing hockey? My kids have done basic skills classes and they play games with neighbors in the backyard, but are still in the stages where they complain a lot about their feet hurting in the skates. He did skating lessons in 1st grade, learn to play hockey clinic in 2nd grade, and then 3rd grade he did a house league that was one practice one game a week. When he started 4th grade is when we started with the travel team and now he’s in 6th so this is his 3rd year with them. I put T in learn to skate at 3 and he laid on the ice and screamed and says he doesn’t want to play.

Morning!
DH is off doing his pre-FAA check flight and oral board. Hoping it goes smoothly, he has been preparing/studying a ton.
Kids are home and I should probably come up with something fun to do but I really need to shower and wash my hair first.

Anyone thinking about swim team for their N13 this summer? I heard about a local one and am considering it. Anyone have experience with older kids? I’d planned to wait til we’re back in FL and maybe do lessons this summer to work on strokes (B can hold his own in the water otherwise), but some moms I was talking to at school were saying it really helped their kids learn/master strokes since they were getting practice several times per week.
The one aspect I’m not jazzed about is the meets. I hated meets as a kid.

DS is 6 and he is just starting to show more interest in playing after being exactly like your 3 y/o T 😉

The one aspect I’m not jazzed about is the meet schedule. I hated meets as a kid. My sisters 5 year old did swim team last summer and it really helped her! Her older siblings were there too with their age groups. But I know my sister was pleased with it for all her kids. They learned some great skills and it was good activity to keep the active and busy. And their swimming improved a lot with it. She’s much more at ease with them in pools because of their experience.

flamingo I do not have personal experience with swim team, but here they are srs bsns. When I would swim at the local high school (they let the public get a membership to work out) we would chat with the parents doing swim workouts with their 4/5 year olds who had Olympic aspirations 😳

I think there is a mix here, the one I’m looking at seems to be more neighborhood-based. I know there’s a league for ultra-competitive swimmers, hopefully the future Dara Torres and Michael Phelps will go there 😂

flamingo our team had a pre-swim team for the littles. They have to swim 1 length free and back. They do a little evaluation when people are interested and go from there. Our swim lessons offer higher level skill work for those that want to improve stroke but not do swim team
