Hi! Ugh that’s not fun wedding. After M2 had his eye thing where the drops weren’t working, I heard someone say a viral eye thing it’s making its rounds. Sorry! MH just had a weird eye thing that was diagnosed as pinkeye at the urgent care, but never cleared up so when he went to see his ophthalmologist it turned out to be a viral infection and they gave him a steroidal drop for it. I hope you don’t have to go that route.

vino That makes sense, and I agree with being able to receive feedback. It's an important part of being a self-aware adult. This particular situation though is just so very sensitive. The message is that a parent is actually endangering their child and that is a loaded concept. I guess I should retract and say I've never seen it done tactfully, not that it isn't possible.

I don’t think we’ll be out of the five point harness for a while. Josie is just shy of 37 pounds and 41 inches tall. We have the britax advocate. It’s a max of 65 pounds and 49 inches. So she’ll probably be in fifth grade and still riding around in that thing. Kidding (sort of). There are some of the high-back booster seat are still five point harness, and don’t use the seatbelt. We will probably go to that before anything else. This is what we have - a high back booster that has a 5 pt harness and can transition into just a highback with seatbelt and no harness, then a backless. This is what we have in my car for B now. He's still in a typical 5-point seat in mH's car but is on the verge of outgrowing that. I haven't decided yet if we'll replace with another one like what I have, or if we'll go to the high back booster next. He's 50" tall and 50 lbs, so size-wise I think he's ok with the booster, but I wonder about maturity level and being able to sit with the seatbelt in place. I think mH's car would be perfect to 'experiment' in since he's usually in there for short rides around town.

We transitioned both kids from rear facing to forward facing in his car before mine as his car didn't have the room for rear facing comfortably (I should rephrase that - the rear facer was fine, the front seat sitter was not), and they are rarely in his car.

dapostrophe I know what you mean about coming across as "obnoxious" when correcting a car-seat (or other parenting) snafu. I've seen plenty of posts in local moms' FB groups go sideways; maybe one responded graciously and humbly. I also think calling people out 'publicly' is never the best way; people will inevitably get their hackles up no matter how nicely one tries to phrase things b/c they feel attacked in front of a bunch of strangers. I think even moreso with older children--where people have been 'doing it this way for years', they are more apt to be defensive. When my nephew was born, my sister sent me a pic of him in his carseat on the way home from the hospital and his straps were too loose. I texted my mom and asked her to show my sister how to tighten the straps appropriately. My sister called later and was very appreciative that I had said something. We didn't put her on blast, and my mom said it in person so there was tone and facial expressions to go along with the message...that is probably the best case scenario for something like that. Barring that, maybe a PM (if the pic is on social media or whatnot).

Letting them train on short rides before fully making the switch.

Reading this reminds me I was going to ask you guys something. I was at a birthday party a few weeks ago and a few of the moms mentioned their 5 or almost 5 year olds are no longer in a 5 point harness. S is still in his and I hadn't really considered changing it yet, but it got me thinking about it. Those that said they were out of the 5 pt harness said they were still in a high back booster, just with the regular seat belt. I know people here (on these boards) tend to be stricter about car seat rules than people I know IRL, so I was curious if I was the outlier with S in 5 pt harness or if they are the outliers. Evie is in a 5 pt harness in my Jeep, which I drive most often. We have the high back booster in H's car, but she isn't in it as often. She prefers the high back booster because she can move around more, but I tell her she's safer in the 5pt.

DS1 was in a seatbelt booster at 3 which was completely normal at the time. T, who is much larger than DS1 was is still in the convertible seat he has had since he turned 1. On the rare occasion he is in DH’s car, he’s in a seatbelt booster. His convertible “expires” in the spring so I will have to figure out what to get next. DD had a Cosco booster that had a harness then converted to seatbelt. I will probably get him one of those, I think it was like $35 in Target. He can buckle and unbuckle the harness now which is helpful with all the times we get in and out of the car. All T wants in life is to “chew gum, play Fortnite, and sit on the big bench in the back of the van.”

flamingo that's a good point...all the times I've seen it go down (in flames) is because of course, it was public. You navigated that situation in a way that was non-confrontational and left your sister's dignity intact. The relationship is important here too, since you and your mom are a likely trusted advisors. I agree that the dynamic shifts dramatically when it's an acquaintance or a stranger in a public space.

We had a snow day yesterday and a delay today. It was crazy keeping 4 kids occupied while DH worked and we were doing all the paperwork for our mortgage. I’m so excited but so nervous. Now I have my nephews here before school. Has anyone watched You on Netflix? We watched 3 episodes and it’s creepy. I watched and i liked it. Beck gets on my nerves though. She is...

jewels, I recently transitioned both girl (5 and 7) to a high back booster with seatbelt. I was planning on waiting longer but their car seats were gross and I didn't want to clean them and instead just decided it was time for new ones. Cass is a tank (46" and about 46 lbs) and built very solid. Maddie is average height/weight. They both have done well. We explained how they have to sit in them. They were both so excited about them they sat up just as they were supposed to and it hasn't been an issue. They still have a side head rest so they can sleep in appropriate positions.

I plan to move C to a high back booster with the seatbelt in the Spring. He is in one with a 5 point now and the crotch strap and super tight so he's uncomfortable and its a pain to buckle him. He is 54 # so just a big kid. My dad has a backless booster that C has ridden in (without my permission) and he does fine. I think he will be ok with the extra freedom. I am waiting until the spring because I am going to do it when my car gets detailed so everything will be fresh.

Delta won’t let me book my flight. I sent them the info to change my skymiles to my married name (cuz I haven’t flown Delta since before I was married) and they haven’t updated my account yet. If this flight goes up I will be so annoyed.

Hi, just catching up. Colin had a 2 hour delay this morning and DH was dropping him, so I brought Chase into daycare before coming to the office. I haven't been in since right after my ankle, so it was nice to see everyone and Chase was so calm with Colin not there. I swear they bring the worst out in each other. It was sunny and above freezing so a lot of yesterday's snow and ice melted, not that ended up with much. I'm pretty much convinced that we'll be having weekly storms in March since we haven't had anything substantial yet. I think we have rain in the forecast for the weekend which means our VT trip would go out the window. FX that the forecast shapes up. Also Colin is still in his convertible seat and it allegedly fits up to 70lbs. Though to be fair, as wedding mentioned, the crotch strap is becoming a bit of an issue. I haven't really looked into what's next, it probably depends how long we can extend the life of this seat.

Re car seats; you never see the buckle across the chest if here. I bought one to add to dd seat, so she has one now. Also rear facing kids are far and few here after infancy. I don’t know anyone irl who did this. Ds was rear facing until almost 4, dd until 2y3m. She kept getting car sick, it stopped immediately after switching her. Currently we have this one for ds, not sure how you’d call it. It has an isofix latch & it uses a normal car buckle.

So way back in September I had to fill out my request for hiring my summer 2019 positions. When the paperwork asked for my contact # I thought it was for administrative purposes and put my personal cell phone number because I thought I was going to be laid off for a few months and wanted to make sure the HR people could get in contact with me if they had a question. Fast forward to now, and I just got my list of 110 candidates to chose from to hire my seasonal positions. Our HR person asked me if I would like her to send out an email to everyone to do an availability check with my contact info in it to all the candidates since it was so long ago when they applied. I said Sure! So she sent it and sent me a copy of what she sent. Which includes a note to get in touch with me by email or phone....with my personal cell #! Whoops! I am really hoping most people will email me! DNW over 100 phone calls from people that I am probably not going to hire!

O is in a high back booster with a 5 point harness that’ll eventually convert. I think it goes up to 100 or more pounds. I’m keeping the 5 point harness indefinitely.
On vacation though, we decided we will no longer bring his seat and only bring a booster for him. Our Costa Rica trip was the first time he sat in one. Let me tell you, not dragging two car seats through the airport was ahhh-ma-zing!!!

vino That makes sense, and I agree with being able to receive feedback. It's an important part of being a self-aware adult. This particular situation though is just so very sensitive. The message is that a parent is actually endangering their child and that is a loaded concept. I guess I should retract and say I've never seen it done tactfully, not that it isn't possible. I think the problem is that people take car seat safety too lightly. They don’t understand the gravity of the situation, and get lazy. Every time I put my kids in the car I’m preparing them like we will get in a car accident. So in my opinion it’s a life or death situation. jewels the general rule about HB boosters with a seatbelt is that your kid is mature enough to sit up straight in it at all times, including if they were to fall asleep. CSFTL says you can start booster training at 5. That being said, harnesses are like 300x more safe (I didn’t look up this statistic so it’s probably wrong) so I will be using one for my kids as long as possible.

I recently switched S to forward facing because I was sick of her boots getting the seat back dirty. This car has ventilation holes in the seats (or something) so the muck goes into them and I don’t feel like I can get it clean. She’ll be 3 in 12 days so I’m happy with how long she RF’d. I do want to get H a different seat though, I hate how the Chico nextfit is for forward facing. Luckily that one is in DH’s car so they aren’t in there too often. It’s over 4 years old so I should check how long before it expires.

Tiptoeing around someone having a bad dye job when they’re all ‘I LOVE IT DONT YOU’ or ill fitting clothes while out shopping with friends, sure. But safety stuff, I mean....no. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

nam2013 is that a lap-bar that comes down on that seat you posted? I remember my 'booster' as a kid had a padded bar that kind of looked like that; it hinged and swung up to get in the seat, then down over my chest/lap once I was seated. Very basic. It reminds me of what we put our kids in in restaurants now, but with more padding LOL. Good luck and godspeed lfig, I will cross my fingers that they email! When I hired an admin, I had so. many. responses. The economy was really bad back then, too, so I'm sure that was part of it. I turned off the ad after a day or two and had literally a hundred resumes to choose from. Weeding through them was the pits.

C told me I did very well today so I could choose a prize (he has a bag filled with random art for me to choose from). Then he told me “I don’t usually do this but I’m going to let you kiss me. And I’m not even going to wipe it off”. It was pretty cute. I’ll take my love where I can get it.

I had a call with the HR manager this afternoon. I don't know that I'm completely qualified, but I do have lots of questions so I'll probably follow up tomorrow with times I can meet in person next week.
The in laws bought BBQ and wine. Two nights of wine and too much food, I'm ready for bed at 7!

I'm pretty much the carseat nut of the family. A has cousins that no longer speak to me because I post car seat safety tips- on my own facebook wall, not like tagging anyone and they apparently took it as a personal attack on their parenting.... if you feel that judged by a post that is aimed at all parents, not you specifically- you should probably reevaluate your parenting. If I've said something to someone (always privately) and they blow me off, I unfollow them on facebook. My anxiety and OCD take over when I see a kid not strapped in right and I'll think/have nightmares about it for weeks.
My cousin has her son, who is 3 days older than J in a high back booster..

I've also had moms message me saying "I saw your post, please help me! My kid is not safe!" And others asking for help choosing the next seat up after the infant. So totally worth it for me to annoy a few people.

I took the afternoon off work and took a nap. Woke of feeling better, did a little work, then took N to dance and gymnastics. We just got home and I inhaled a fried egg sandwich since I didn’t have dinner. About to put her to bed and relax for a bit. Dh is packing for his weekend away so I need to hide myself from seeing his mess.
