My parents are coming in about 24 hours and staying for a week, so DH and I won’t be doing a date night for Valentine’s Day this year. Maybe we’ll take them out to dinner if they’re not too jet lagged though 👍
I have the cutest valentine’s day mini cards for DS1 to hand out at school. It’s not really a celebrated holiday over here, but I know his classmates will enjoy reading a special message from him when they get home from school.
Anyone have any ideas or plans? Chocolate purchases in the works?

Our daycare provider used to do free babysitting on Valentine's Day. The first year we went out to eat and it was so crowded and busy, the next year (I was pregnant with DS2) we dropped DS1 off, got takeout, came home, and watched TV in our PJs. That was great. She didn't do it last year though, and hasn't mentioned it this year. ☹
I don't care that much about the holiday, TBH. 🤷♀️ DH usually brings me flowers and I really wish he'd not spend money on them. And I've been sending Valentine's from the same box I bought 4 years ago for DS1's first Valentine's Day. Each year I tell myself I'll buy different ones and maybe make a box for them (as requested by DCP) but it never gets done. I doubt this year is different. Maybe next year!! 😉

Add me to the bench where people who dont care about valentines day sit. H and I aren't "big thing" kind of people so it's very easy to just ignore valentines day exists. I got H a card and he got me a $60 gift so, fuck me haha.
I like making things like Valentine's day boxes so in a few years maybe we will try harder.

For V Day, it doesn’t have a magical love expectation for me at all, but when I was a kid I really enjoyed preparing my valentines and looking through all the ones I got so I make that part special w the boys. I have a lot of cute heart decorations up in our house too. I’m such a sucker for holiday decorating, it’s really makes my year go round.

And I’ve said this before but nothing means I love you more in my house than letting the other person sleep in or take a nap. The only thing I ever want really is the opportunity to sleep more.

H and I have never been “Valentines” type people. DD1 and I bought H a card (she picked out one with the little mermaid on it 🤷♀️😂) and his favorite candy. I’m trying to teach her to think of others so it was less about the holiday and more of a teachable moment to be thinking of others.
Both girls classes are “exchanging” Valentines in their daycare classrooms 😑 I mean, I get that it’s fun for DD1 but DD2 at 16 months?! It’s fine, I’m just being grumpy about it but as a teacher I do know kids love their holidays. DD2 will just try to eat the stickers or whatever she gets.

We aren't holiday peoples either however because I love an excuse to make things, I may make some chocolate covered strawberries if I see good strawberries on Wednesday mostly for DS. Surprisingly last week I picked up a really great pack...I try to eat seasonally but the smell of strawberries wafting by at the grocers caught my fancy. DS and I did work on his Valentines for his class the last couple of weeks and I am so proud of him for writing all his friends name and his on the valentines - all 28 of them!. It's just so incredible to see DS learning to read and write. CoachTsWife , we're reusing DS' Valentine's box from last year, it's still in one piece and has held up and he's still obsessed with trains. Anyways we made butterfly valentines with these cute push pencils I found at Target, DS painted sheets of paper and I cut them out and he addressed them. I think they turned out cute.

rebeccabunch I am so glad you managed to get through your difficulties. Our children take so much out of us but in return give us so so much more joy than I ever imagined. Taitai, we are certainly crazy. Sounds like about 12 months is when we got to 4x nursing and we still are at that. I am planning on nursing until about April when flu season is dwindling down plus he's my last so you all know what that's like. Lil fella developed a fever yesterday, I think he's teething hardcore and has been fussy about everything and so clingy. He's teeth I feel are coming in painfully slow. We only have 4 and I've been seeing his upper incisors coming in for weeks now and still haven't broken through. He got shots a week ago so I don't think it's from that is it? Anyways I need to get to sleep...I am in a tax fog and was taking a break here.

Any O17 babies down to 1 nap yet? We’re still on 2 but it’s getting harder to get lil fella down in the afternoons. He still goes down easily in the mornings which is the opposite 🤷🏻♀️

I enjoy having her take 2 naps so I'm doing my best to keep it there but very soon 2 naps will be a distant memory.

When the weather is ok and DD2 is at daycare she takes a cat nap on the morning walk and then an hour nap at actual nap time. She does not go down easy at home.

He still goes down easily in the mornings which is the opposite 🤷🏻♀️ DD2 has been at one nap 99% of the time since they moved her to the big kid room in November. She was a hot mess at first. She was so not ready but we had no real choice. For right now she seems to do her nap at daycare from 11:00-1:30 and sometimes till 2 — which is really the worst time possible when we have her at home. It also means an early bedtime. It’s not my favorite schedule but hopefully we can push it back as time goes on.

This week is super busy but I kind of need it after the sucky week last week.
DD2 had her assessment for EI this morning so I took a half day at work. We already found out this evening she qualifies for speech so I’m ready to get services started for her! I mostly just wanted her “in the system” so in case we do decide to move this summer she already has a paper trail. Since I’ve already had DD1 go through it I know not to expect huge gains at first. I’m just happy someone else can work with her on it too.
Of course, tons of family has already given opinions about this, most of them involving kids not talking till 3 or 4 or kindergarten... 🙄

duskymonkey we're at 1 nap at home unless he's up super early or has a really bad night. Daycare still does 2 naps sometimes but I think it is getting less frequent. Our in home DCP is getting a new baby tomorrow so DS2 will no longer be the "baby" there, which is crazy to me. He seems so little at times and so big other times. Gah!!

We’ve been living the one nap life for about a month and a half - I’m a big fan! He sleeps from 12-2. It’s so much easier to get DS2 down, and he can make it to bedtime at 7/7:15pm without problems.

duskymonkey one nap here too. And 11 teeth. And lots of words. Where did my baby go? 😭 In other news, DSs teacher wants him to go to therapy to improve his fine motor skills. He’s shit with writing his letters but I mean, he’s 5 1/2. It doesn’t really seem like something to worry about yet. 🤷♀️ Maybe we will do it if insurance covers it.

His 4 yo preschool teacher is a pediatric OT so she gave us tips. We didn’t do OT but we pushed a lot of writing at home (which he didn’t like a first bc it was hard) legos (picking up and playing w small pieces of anything helps) and silly putty type stuff. He’s much improved. He used to not like legos and I think this is why it wa hard for him. He’s now obsessed.

Baby’s naps are crappy but I can’t imagine she’s ready for one but w my DS1 he was the worst napped ever until about a month after 1 nap and everything fell into place. He was like 18 months though but your positive one nap feedback is intriguing.
She takes an hour nap in the morning and hour in afternoon. Sometimes it’s 40 minutes sometimes it’s 1.5 hours.

This week has been a super busy week. Every night has had something and I’m ready for the weekend.
We had my student teacher’s mid-term evaluation today. I’ve decided I’m terrible at evaluating people. I either have super high standards and nobody is ever good enough OR.... I’m like whatever, It’s all good. Nobody died. I was super PMSing when I tried to fill it out last week so I’m glad I pulled it out at lunch today to look over and reevaluate before we met today. 😬 I might have been more than a little harsh.

I told DH not to bring me flowers today. He obeyed, but he did bring me chocolate and a sweet card. He took DS for a (much needed) haircut and brought home Costa Vida for supper, so it has been a pretty laid back evening.
It is gonna snow tomorrow (again! 😩 ) and my boss suggested we work from home tomorrow. Don't have to ask me twice! I'm excited to be in a quiet house all day, even though I have to work.

Valentine’s Day was fun yesterday. H got me flowers and some fun jewelry (nothing expensive), and I got him some chinos that I knew he really wanted and my parents brought along in their luggage. They fit him perfectly- wohoo j.crew! DS1 gave out all his Valentines, and he also got some cute heart stickers from Grandma and Grandpa.
We are taking my parents to the beach for a long weekend tomorrow- hoping for good air quality and weather that isn’t too hot!

We’ve been a hot mess all around with crap sleep, naps, eating, just about everything. cythe eventhough getting to 1 nap a day will be better for us in terms of getting out and about but I hear you on 2 naps. I’m so not looking forward to the transition, I remember it was a disaster with DS. Taitai so you do an early lunch or late? danvers when do you do lunch too? I’m drawning a blank with DS. All I remember is him face planting during lunch 🤦🏻♀️ bootsorhearts1 we have lots of words too, lil fella has surpassed DS during this age and we’re on to 2 syllable words and he’s stringing 2 words already oy vay. In other news, I’ve been teaching DS some Malay and he speaks with such a strong foreign accent 😳

Those choc covered strawberries you made look so good! Also - on the nap/feeding situation, we do lunch for DS2 at 11:40, then nap from 12-2. Snack at 2:30pm, dinner at 5/5:15pm.
