We ended up being admitted to Children’s. B has RSV. ***TW *** sick newborn After nursing, B keeps having apnea spells when he turns bluish and desats into the 80s. We tried a bottle in case it was because BFing was too much work, but it’s been going on since yesterday afternoon. His nurse just told us that he might be moved to the nicu and placed on higher-flow oxygen. I’m so scared for my tiny, sweet boy.
And even though MIL is home with DS1, I feel awful for leaving him so much over the last week. He must be so confused, and I miss him terribly.

CharlieB I'm so sorry, your poor little one! I'm glad he's in the right place to get the care he needs, but I am hoping and praying that his breathing strengthens very soon! Having been the older sibling of a preemie NICU baby, I can agree that it was all very confusing at the time, but my parents were able to teach me to take pride in the way we all did our part to help, and it made me and my brother that much closer to understand the special role of an older sibling.

I’m holding on to the hope my BM will help protect her. I’m actually going to head into the walk in today bc I think it’s morphed into a sinus infection CharlieB how scary! Hope your babe gets better quickly and you’re home soon! Xoxo This time of year is so hard with a newborn!!!

CharlieB I hope he improves quickly. It is scary when they desat like that. Sounds like he is in the right place and getting good care. Big hugs.

Update: Brother tested positive for the flu. My mom won’t be able to come for at least 3 days if she doesn’t catch it. Asking for T&Ps during this time. I’m trying not to freak out but I am scared to death that Alice will catch it. Or even one of us. We have a Pediatrician appointment today so hopefully they will be able to test her and DD1 then.

CharlieB I’m so sorry 💔, I can’t imagine how scary that must be. I’m glad your MIL can be with your DS1, try not to let the mom guilt get to you. Big hugs. My mom is a NICU respiratory therapist. I hope your little guy recovers quickly 💪.

cch I second asking for tamiflu preventatively. We did that for ds1&2 when we were exposed when I was 39 weeks. The medicine is gross and we had to bribe them with a cookie every night, but it is worth it to not get sick!

I will absolutely ask if we can get the tamiflu as a precaution. Hoping they’ll be able to test us all. If not at least DD1 and A. Hoping my breast milk will be enough to protect A and I put an ice cube of it in DD1s smoothie this morning. Can’t hurt. My MIL is planning to come tomorrow and and Thursday to help so I’m grateful for that.

cch, Oh no! I would be freaking out, too! I already told all our family that if they want to hold or touch A when she arrives, they need a flu vaccine since it's been so awful here this year. I mean, I know it can only do so much and doesn't protect against every strain so I'm still worried about it. I'm so sorry you are having to go through this!

cch huge hugs for you. I’m sending all my healthy thoughts your way that no one gets sick. It’s the worst when you’re around someone sick and have that long wait to see if anyone will catch it. I hope you can get some tami flu to help get ahead of it but hopefully you don’t need it! CharlieB that’s so scary. I’m glad baby is in the right place to get better but I can’t imagine how worried you must be. Stay strong momma! Lots of hugs! ❤️ Finn had his first pediatrician appointment today. He’s still a bit jaundiced. They tested his levels in the hospital and said it wasn’t bad enough to do anything but the pediatrician was concerned. We’ve been napping on the patio to try to get some sun. She also gave me a bunch of samples of formula. She said MH can give him some tonight so I can sleep. I know he needs to eat a lot and poop a lot to flush things out but I’m making a lot of milk and I am annoyed at her already suggesting formula. Am I being too sensitive?

strawberrykiki I'd be annoyed too. I mean there is nothing wrong with formula but if your supply is good and you dont want to use I say don't. Just keep nursing and making sure there are good dirty diapers and that jaundice will improve. A had jaundice while in the NICU but it wasn't bad enough for treatment. It improved after a couple of days.

strawberrykiki I would absolutely be frustrated too. DD1 had jaundice really bad and was in the hospital for 5 nights in the nursery under lights. It was so tough on me. She also was in the 5th-6th percentile for weight until about 6mo and not once did her pediatrician try to push formula. I really miss DD1s pedi. We’ve moved since then and even being here over 2 years I haven’t found a pediatrician I like nearly as much. Having a pedi you’re comfortable and happy with makes such a difference. Your milk is great for him and that sucks she suggested formula if she knew you were trying to EBF. Hopefully LO will poop a lot for you over the next couple days and his levels will come down soon. CharlieB How is B? How are you? Thinking and praying for you guys. ❤️

strawberrykiki not being sensitive at all! That’s obnoxious to push formula. I’d feel the same way! Just keep nursing on demand and naps by the window to get some sun. cch any update from the pedi? Could you guys get tested? CharlieB thinking of you guys!

TashaLa The pedi said no need to test if none of us were feeling symptoms yet because it likely wouldn’t even be positive if we did have it until we’re symptomatic. Thankfully we all feel fine right now.

This chafing is driving me so crazy I want to cry. Things I have tried: Desitin with vaseline on top Straight vaseline Aveeno lotion Walking around like a sumo wrestler (can't do this at work though) Some of my favorite body butter that has olive and hemp oils
The last one seems to be the most effective but I need something that will last during the work day. I don't mind reapplying at lunch and right after, but everything above would need reapplied over and over because I do so much walking and up and down movement.
Any suggestions? My next try is the body butter and cornstarch. I've heard PAM is excellent because it won't absorb into skin so you don't have to reapply it over and over but it gets everywhere.

k, I threw on some more body butter this morning and then put on coconut oil when the body butter had absorbed into my skin some. Let's see how it goes! @amc, I'll have to try and find some. Well, good news is that the body butter and cornstarch combo seemed to work really well overnight. Walking wasn't painful this morning! Uncomfortable, but not painful. And the lower part of my thigh that was being affected didn't hurt or have redness at all.

I'm feeling more off as the morning progresses. My head and stomach are feeling strange and I'm not sure if it's me needing to eat or what. I felt fine earlier so I'm not sure what has changed.
