Hello! What's going on today?

It's still insanely cold here, there was a fire at one of Consumers gas stations and we got an emergency alert late last night urging anyone who is able to to turn down the thermostat to 65 to help conserve resources. People are FLIPPING out. Like all, "fuck you! I'm not doing that! You should have planned!". It's unreal. They didn't plan on there being a fire and it's record breaking cold temps. If you can't turn your thermostat down due to whatever circumstance then don't, but if you can is it really that big of a deal? Especially when you think about the alternative of having no heat in this weather..
Like, someone posted something like "We keep our heat at 64 typically anyways" and someone responded, "Wow! It must really suck to be that poor. No fucking way I'm turning my heat down".

Low today is 15 so the boys are going to the sitters. I have to run to all the banks depositing payroll or I would just keep them home and not leave the house again.. I need it to be at least 30 to be tolerable lol.

I had an N13 dream last night. tgrimes and her family drove north and kept going up through Maine and apparently after Maine is Norway in my dream. They rented this skeezy hotel room that looked like a New Orleans whore house back in the day. We drove out to visit them. There were baby bears everywhere and we had to keep stopping to let them cross. When we got there talked about visiting nam2013 because we were close to her in the dream. It was very cold. Not much else happened. It was very odd. I really liked those bears though.

I feel like we’ve had this conversation before, but out of curiosity what do you keep your thermostat on? In our other house it needed to be at 68 to be comfortable, but here we find that 64 (Sometimes even 62) feels warm. I guess it’s number of baseboards and the placement of our furniture?

guster we like to keep our thermostat set at 71. But will go anywhere between 69-73 accordingly if we are hot/cold. ETA: we heat with a forced air wood furnace. It has a warmer feel than the electric heat. If we are being lazy and use the electric heat because we don’t feel like cutting a load of firewood we then to set it at 73/74.

We have a programmable thermostat; 2am-3:30pm it is set to 17C(62f) 3:30pm-10:30pm 19C(66f) 10:30-2am 18C(64) Sometimes we turn it up to 20C(68) but never higher than that.
Side note, because of you lot I spend a lot of time converting Celsius to Fahrenheit, you’d think after all these years my brain could do it automatically, but newp.

Morning. wineallthetime Wow. Some people are so ridiculous. nam2013 I hope the kids are feeling better. Another terrible night of sleep. It’s feeling like the newborn days. Whatever is going on with M2’s sleep, I hope it resolves itself soon. Work should be busy today, but it’s pay day so I have to find time to adult and pay some bills. Much fun happening here... <insert sarcasm>

I will never understand the need to type out such ridiculousness. Go ahead and think your petty thoughts, but the rest of us don't need to be subject to them. Good Lord.

Morning Ladies! I am feeling much better today after going to bed early. I am reading Michelle Obama's new book, and I love it so far, so I had to cut myself off to prioritize a good night's sleep. Bea still woke up at 3:30, but we dozed right back off until the 7 am wake up brigade.
I am going to see if some of the neighbors want to come by today to entertain my children. Subtraction by addition and all that 😁

Morning. H was up at 4:55. He came and shut our bedroom door then snuck into N’s bed. Dh didn’t want make him go back to his room, so of course he tossed and turned and eventually woke N up. He finally came into our room, Dh went into N’s and I got very little sleep. I think we’ll be locking him in his room tonight.
We’re home again today. I need to run errands but don’t want to deal with the old and both kids, so we might just hunker down again.

I MIGHT get to go home. They MIGHT close the office. The city MIGHT be turning the water off, so the office will close. I took a day off a couple weeks ago for a supposed water shut off and it never happened. Soooooo, we're all here, hoping for the best. IN my case the best would be the water gets shut off so I can go home and clean (*whispers* binge watch random tv)

I think it is on 66 while we are away, which is apparently too cold for my cat because he is always very grumpy when we get home. The heater clicks on when my phone is within the vicinity and it goes up to 68. Sometimes in the evening, if I'm cold, I'll bump it up to 70 until I go to bed, then it goes back down to 68. During the summer while we are away I think it is set on 75 or 76, and 72-70 when we are home. I apparently like it a good 70 degrees in my home at all times I am there.

We usually keep it at 70. I used to have it programmed to go down during the day then up during the evenings then down a bit while we are sleeping. But between maternity leave being home, and the part time schedule I had for 2 years, I ended up just overriding it to stay at 70.
We also have a very old, drafty house. We have tried to fix it spray in insulation, new windows, etc, but it only helps a little bit.

Usually 68 during the day when we aren't home and up to 72 when we get home. Back to 70 for bed and overnight.

My child is no wearing size 8 in underwear. 8! This baffles me. I was a very tiny child, so I don't think I was in a size 8 until 3rd or 4th grade.

I used to keep my heat at 68 but DH bought those smart sensors you put in each room and it adjusts itself somehow. I like it lower at night and I like to pile on the blankets but since C still doesn’t use a blanket, a lot of nights we end up at 70.
My kids have a half day that was scheduled prior to the cold weather. I sat in the car at DS1’s bus stop for 34 minutes this morning because it was -1 and the bus is always late. I’m not usually a complainer but I called transportation because they have been so late they miss first period several times. The last time they had a half day, the bus to bring them home was 45 minutes late and it was pouring and the school left them standing in the rain. They also have had different buses/drivers everyday and one bus is missing seatbelts. One driver took them to the wrong school last week and another missed a stop and when the kids told him he missed it, he told them “this is not the magic school bus.” The woman at transportation told me they have never had any complaints about that bus and the bus is inspected twice a day so there can’t be missing seatbelts. I know of another parent who complained this morning before me so clearly I was not their first complaint.
Tonight I have my nephews overnight. It should be easy because I will take everyone to DS’s hockey game then order pizza then it will be bedtime since they have school tomorrow. Saturday I will be joining my sister overnight and Sunday DH invited his friends from Sweden over for Super Bowl.
