I think that’s a great opportunity, @klongoria. Especially if you already speak language and can help her practice at home

Cadence's school has the option of a dual language program. They have both Spanish and Vietnamese. I think it would be good to get her started on Spanish. I already use a few words here and there with her, but mh doesn't want to. I may wait a year and have her start in 1st grade. I'm still thinking about it, but the application is due by the 31st.
What do you guys think?
I would definitely apply. I’m thinking it’s probably easier to pull her out then get her in later on if you change your mind.

Why doesn’t he want to? I would definitely encourage Spanish as early as possible.

klong11 What does dual language mean? Is it immersion or just classes offered?

Yes klong11 to Spanish. I wish our school offered it. O has “specials” every day like joelies C’s school. The TA goes with them. Library, PE, STEM, Art, and I’m not sure what else.

klong11 definitely get her enrolled. What are his reasons? I'm surprised living in the southwest one wouldn't.

I would guess his main reasoning is that he doesn't know any. Honestly, I think it would be a great way for him to learn as well. There would be extra work involved, but I think given where we live and my side of the family, it would be beneficial for her.

Mh bribed Cadence this morning with a Cry Baby doll. He told her he would get her one if she started dressing herself (she already dresses herself unless he is involved, then she plays dumb). I told him a better bribe would be wiping her own butt. So he added that into the deal. Well, he already gave her the damn doll and she hasn't shown that she is going to do those things yet. This doll is freaking annoying. It cries unless it's pacifier is in it's mouth. And since she saw the commercial a million times she knew that you put water in it to make it cry real tears. So it spews water out of it's face and cries constantly because she keeps pulling the pacifier out. This is why I said no when she asked for it at Christmas, I knew it was going to be annoying.

School is already cancelled for the next two days due to the cold. I’m hoping i can work from home Wednesday so I don’t have to leave the house. It’s going to be so brutal.

I thought that only happened in teen movies. 🤷♀️ I never had to do it in class but apparently they expect us to teach it. 😂 None of my condom use has ever involved any phallic produce. Omg. I've never seen the condom on banana IRL!

I just got the email that kindergarten registration is in two weeks. ::cue breathing into bag:: I don't know what registration entails aside from the paperwork, but I am hoping there will be some Q & A since it happens all day at the assigned elementary school. Our registration is coming up too. We also have an info night, but it's A's birthday so we probably won't go. I feel like they'll mail home any info I need or I can call. I'm a breezy parent though.

I think I'd need a bit more info of what it all entailed, but overall I think if you can practice it at home and it doesn't take away too much from the typical teachings I'd do it. I think key is working on it at home at this age. If she does it for a year or two with no work at home, it'll be a waste. MH's first language is Romanian, he went to kindergarten here knowing no English. He still speaks Romanian, but it's a bit rough because he then taught his parents English and they used that around the house for practice. Basically my point is if you aren't using it at home or having her follow it throughout the years it likely won't be beneficial.

Once they are enrolled, they ask that you stick with it for all 12-13 years of school.

Ear infection confirmed. I asked her if she had heard back from the GI yet and she said no and she was not happy about that. She said she’d be calling them again & would not be so nice this time.
We’ll see what happens.

My mom just texted me this:
I was at Target earlier and this woman comes up to me in one of the isles and asks me if she could talk to me for a minute. She looked somewhat normal so I said sure. I thought she was going to ask me my opinion about a bedspread. She proceeds to tell me she has no one else to talk to. She was upset about her 19 year old son and all their problems. I had to play psychologist and help her. After our 15 minute talk she thanked me profusely and said she felt so much better. She said I looked like a nice person and felt she could talk to me LOL!
I told he she needs to work on her RBF. Lol. But also, how sweet it was of her to listen.

That’s sweet lfig. I had a stranger talk to me in Target yesterday about hot wheels. I think he was doing market research or something. I was happy to answer questions and C hissed at me “mom what are you doing? You don’t even know that guy!” I’m glad he got the stranger danger message. The guy I was taking to just laughed and let us go on our way.

One of Cs friends got him a present. It was a surprise ball thing and wrapped, so clearly her parents bought it and helped. It’s a bit weird to me. If C asked to buy a friend a gift I would say no. I know it’s not super expensive but still odd. She didn’t get anything for anyone else.

Honestly, I could see E asking to do the same thing for someone in his class. He asks to buy flowers whenever we pass that section

lfig That is really sweet. Your mom was good to listen, I think a lot of people would have brushed that poor woman off. Sometimes I think it's a lot easier for people to unburden themselves to a 'stranger' vs. people they have to deal with daily or who are invested. My mom and I have compared notes and we both have this happen to us a lot, oddly enough. Usually the people in question are ones that we kind of 'know' (like a saleslady where I'm a frequent shopper, for ex), but I have had a couple random people in waiting rooms and whatnot, too.

klong11 Has she had any exposure to Spanish in school up until now? If so, what does she think? Based on our experience so far I would be inclined to apply. B started Spanish last year and loves it; his assistant teacher this year is also the Spanish teacher so she practices with them at lunch and during downtime. We are specifically targeting a couple schools in FL that offer it in elementary b/c he enjoys it so much and I don't want him to 'lose' what he's learned already. As someone said it's probably easier to apply now and change your mind later than the opposite so I'd at least put in the application while you weigh your options.

wedding S and his bff often ask to buy each other stuff. I only allow if occasionally, but I think it’s sweet. But I know the family. I’m not sure I would let him do it if I didn’t know them (and if they didn’t do it too)

It’s been a long day. I didn’t have many meetings today but ended up on the phone with people most of the day. Trying to finalize some of our programs for the beginning of the year and it’s exhausting. The kids were so nice and calm this evening, even played together for a long time. V got an insane amount of Peppa Pig toys for Christmas and they are a huge hit with both kids - and bonus G tries a cute little British accent 😂
I am going to bed soon so I can go to an early Orange Theory class and then my weekly nutritionist appointment!
