You all and your burnt cabinet stories are solidifying my need to keep the toaster off the counter and the bread in the fridge.

nothing going on here. I have no plans for the weekend but Monday MH and I get a date day because daycare is open.
I have been the worst at watching my weight the last 2 months but not my bras aren't fitting so it is time to get these sweater puppies in check.

Thanks, I decided to just make an appt. I checked my temp again after posting and it’s 101.3. Our toaster and butter live on the counter so all she had to do was get the bread out of the bag and put it in. I love to foster independence, within reason, because then I don’t have to do it. Did I ever tell you about the time I just about caught the house on fire toasting pop tarts when I was 6 or 7? My dad was in bed recovering from a hernia surgery. Mom was at work. I put pop tarts in the toaster but didn’t lower the setting...the pop tarts charred and the filling caught fire. The toaster was in flames, kitchen filled with smoke. The flames burnt the cabinets above the toaster. My dad, recovering from surgery came running out and grabbed the toaster with towels and threw it in the sink under water. Burned his hands in the process. I think I lost favorite daughter status for a while after that 😂. Don’t tell me that! I’m glad you didn’t burn the house down.

I don't trust C with things like the toaster but he gets his own breakfast in the morning. Usually a muffin but sometimes cereal.

Morning! Dh and I have date night tonight. We're just going to dinner and a movie. But it'll be nice to get out.
I am always shocked at the amount of bday partie N13 kids go to. N usually has 2-3 a year for just close friends. Well, she has 3 this weekend! 2 of them overlap tomorrow, one at the bowling alley from 2-4, one at the swimming pool from 2-5. Would you try and make it to both? She of course wants to, so we'll probably leave a little early from bowling so she can swim for an hour or so. The other is Sunday morning at 10:30 which is a scandalous time for a small, church-going, town. lol.

Morning! Dinner with my sis was lovely and so needed. We got noodles and then walked around Whole Foods for chocolate tarts, cheese and boule. Heaven.
I am packaging up some "just because" gifts and cards for my 2 friends, sister and SIL today. They really showed up for me in big ways in 2018, which was a really challenging year in a lot of ways. The gift is Aerie's hometown sweatshirt. It's like a warm hug.
Not much on the agenda today. We are throwing a MLK day ice skating party, so we need to get the house put back together. It's supposed to be really cold though, so the basement will probably get utilized. I am procrastinating on bringing the kids downstairs to pick up 8 gazillion toys. First, coffee and TCF of course 😁

And so has my 16 y/o 😉 Evie asks me once a week probably. I'm holding off. I remember I got mine done in like the 3rd grade...my mom always told me I had to be old enough to take care of them myself. I know Evie isn't at that point yet...girl can barely remember to brush her teeth twice a day, no way is she cleaning her ears. It seems like a lot of people here, take their kids to tattoo places, at least that's what I've seen on FB.

This is amazing...the language in the emails is clearly not something I would believe was from some one educated. Like asking for assistant instead of assistance. Even if you somehow missed the weird email address. I'd be so embarrassed.

Last night I went to target to get some grocery stuff for the impending snow storm and they are just starting renovations. They had a ton of stuff 30-70% off. I found nothing for me and tried to keep things in check because of our uncertain finances, but I stocked up on thermal underwear for C. $4 a set! I also got a Hulk fidget spinner for 28cents.
I have since blown all savings on the JCrew sale.

Quoting myself, but now that I think about it more, I guess I could see how this could *possibly* happen in larger companies, where you don't know your CEO and have procedures in place. I work for a small company, there are 15 of us in the front office. I've had many drinks with our CEO, so I know they are a scam as soon as they show up in my inbox.

It's a cold, snowy day in my beautiful city. Just hanging out in my cubicle, aka working, waiting for the weekend. I've got a few things to work on but otherwise it'll be a slow day.
B has soccer at 8.15am tomorrow morning and my cousin and his family are coming then we're heading out to brunch, B is so excited that they're coming to see him play, he's so proud.

C’s new Lilly dress came. The mailer is hot pink so she insisted on opening it, taking the dress out and trying it on (currently wearing it over leggings and a tunic, lol). She loves it. She is her mother’s daughter 🙈

Not the toaster, but I once caught a microwave on fire by putting Bagel Bites in for 90 minutes instead of 90 seconds, forgot about them, and walked away. A looong time later, my sister is heard yelling from the kitchen, “April, what did you DO? The microwave is on fire!” I was known for a series of kitchen mishaps for a long time. My family still can’t believe I turned out to be a pretty good cook. ETA: I was 20...

cagoldi I love that you were 20. Two girls I went to school with started a microwave fire because they made microwave popcorn then paper clipped the bag shut again to pop the kernels that hadn’t popped yet. I just got a wine delivery and the box has a big sticker that says “do not deliver to an intoxicated person.” Good thing it didn’t come last week when I was day drunk.

My microwave stories are limited to friends and family.
High school best friend’s little sister microwaved a piece of bazooka bubblegum for one minute. And when she went to grab it, it burned her finger pretty badly because it had basically turned into putty.
Colleague 1 went to warm up her lunch on paper plates that colleague 2 had brought in left over from his son‘s baptism. They had either a silver or gold rim on them, and it started a fire in the English department’s microwave that set off the fire alarms that evacuated the whole school for a good part of the afternoon. She did not live that down.

My friend and I microwaved soup in a pan once. Yeah....don't do that! There were sparks, but no fire and a horrible electrical smell that we couldn't air out before her parents returned.
