I think ramping up the qualifying factors for the debates would make perfect sense if the actual *field* had winnowed, because, in theory, it would be easier to get to 5% if you are competing against 7 people vs 20. But with so many hangers-on siphoning off 1% here and there it makes it harder for each candidate hovering around 3 or 4% to get to 5.

I just read on Twitter that the Iowa caucus is less than 50 days away and I felt a jolt of anxiety.
It’s going from theoretical to real very quickly here...it’s like I’ve been waiting for this but yikes do I not feel ready.

Every time I see it I want to breathe into a paper bag.

I got the 3 month warning notice of democratic presidential preference election in the mail for AZ so it feels way more real.

Former HI Governor calls on Tulsi to resign He said he thought it would be difficult for Gabbard to represent her district once she announced her campaign for president. Abercrombie noted that she has rented a home in New Hampshire and missed more than 85 percent of votes since October, despite voting “present” on President Donald Trump’s impeachment last week. “Then she didn’t vote on the budget for next year,” Abercrombie said. “I thought, ‘That’s it.’ Regardless of what her intentions were or what her motivations are, she’s not able to do the job for the 2nd District.” www.politico.com/news/2019/12/23/tulsi-gabbard-neil-abercrombie-resign-089647

I’m 100% undecided but they’ve changed the caucus rules this year. If your original group (undecided included) is viable, you can’t change. I’m scared I’ll go undecided and then can’t switch to a candidate. I’m guessing I’ll have to make a game time decision. At least I know who I won’t be caucusing for, that’s helpful.

Why would they change that this year? I had only heard of the change where they were actually going to count the numbers for each candidate on the first round as well to get a better understanding of how things shifted.

I have no idea why they have made this change...I think the "official answer" is to make it go more smoothly, quickly, and accurately. I agree the caucuses tend to be messy but the solution is to get rid of them, not make them more rigid.
Fuck it...maybe I'll just caucus for Marianne Williamson. I can almost guarantee she won't be viable. Just kidding. If I had to caucus today I would probably hop in with the Castro or Booker folks, if they even have people...

Interesting choice from Sanders. He said he would release his medical records by the end of the year.

Maybe Grandpa Joe will challenge Trump and Bernie to a push up contest.
Then Liz will come in and wipe the floor with them because that woman is FIT.

Sitting here and pondering which of the candidates is strongest vis a vis international relations - who do I trust most to talk to and/or stare down nations not friendly to us (and believe me, I blame Trump for a lot of the current unfriendliness). Granted, even I would be better than Trump, so any of the candidates would be better, but who would be best?
And, honestly, I would like someone who would support our military forces - I think we've really dropped the ball on maintaining a lot of our forces, both from a human perspective and from infrastructure standpoint. I think we need the plough and the sword - would that it wasn't so.

greykitty. Booker is on msnbc right now with some pretty good comments If you attack Americans you will be met with the resolve and strength of us. But we need to bring peace and stability to that region again

jkjacq, thanks! But, drat, I was at Trader Joe's and may need a sedative to recover from that parking lot (we also have a very good liquor store in the same tiny plaza - you can imagine how popular they both are right now!) I've always liked Booker, but I just don't have the feeling this is his year at all. How he didn't get more traction early on is still somewhat of a mystery to me. I was talking to a friend - a life-long Democrat with a lot of elections under her belt, just the other day and we were both agreeing that no one seems like they 'belong' in the Oval Office, as many good traits as each has. Biden, for us, was closest but we both wish he was 10-15 years younger. Granted, this was just coffee chatter, but I was a little surprised she was as unexcited as I was this whole campaign. And we both really fear/think Trump may win.

I have to say listening to booker makes me like him more. But I’m still not sure to a presidential level I agree very much here. I watched a speech he gave on the need for love and unity (probably one of the reasons people see him as "weak") and it was amazing. I had goosebumps and teared up several times. He is such a genuine, caring human and I appreciate that about him so much. But he still isn't my guy for the top of the ticket. I just don't feel that way about him. Would I like to see him on a ticket? Sure. He is also on my short list to caucus for. But right now he isn't "the one" for me. I know he won't be viable at my caucus, or at least I am pretty sure he won't, but I also want to show him support. BUT, at the same time, I feel more strongly about Julian Castro, and right now he is at the tippy top of my caucus list. I am fairly certain I could be the only person caucusing for him, in which case I need a strong second for when I am forced to choose. Is Cory that second? I am not sure... Not including today there are 33 days until caucus. Fuck. Someone hold me.

And we both really fear/think Trump may win. I like him when I hear him talk, but I somehow forget about him when I'm thinking about the race and not actively listening to him. I think he is one of the candidates who was hurt most by the huge field at first. I think there were so many strong candidates that it was hard to break out, so those with more name recognition naturally gained the lead. Then once there were clear front runners established, it was hard to set yourself apart from the frontrunners as being better than them.

I just got out of a house party with Booker. It was absolutely packed. And It was amazing. I had goosebumps the entire time. He was funny, endearing and did a great job with policy discussion. I think I may caucus for him in hopes that he gets a bump from Iowa.
