Wow. Just wow. Good job, everyone. Harris is the first Democrat to drop out without being bounced from a debate - she had qualified for December 19. At the moment, no non-white Democrat has qualified for that debate. It is a huge problem that there will be no candidates of color on the debate stage this month. Huge. |

I’m devastated. I truly did not see this coming. I thought she would have stayed in through early state voting. The money troubles must have been bad.
A major ad drop in Iowa was just announced today. 😭

So part of me thinks she's getting out now because the media has been hammering her so negatively, like they were trying to make her the next Hillary Clinton style boogeyman, that she wants to cut her losses before her entire political career is derailed. It's such a damn shame any way you slice it though because she really would have been excellent. Selfishly, I was so excited to be able to vote in a primary for my original pick since CA moved our primary up. Normally voting in June means we can tell how things are shaking out. Voting in March was going to feel like an entirely different experience. I think this could be likely. The media coverage of her was unfair, I'd like to see the attention put on others now that she is out. |

I did not see that coming. At least not yet. She had been my top choice, and while I am not quite sure she still was, she definitely was over several still in! I didn't see it coming yet either. I know her campaign was having a lot of inner troubles, but I still felt like they had time to get it together and could make a come back. |

I had read several weeks ago that Harris was going to have to make a decision soon, given the timing of the California primary and her polling there. The scenario was that if she did ran and did badly in her home state, that opened her Senate seat up for a lot of challengers, and since she hasn't been doing well in polls or fundraising in other states, even where she was concentrating efforts, withdrawal seemed inevitable.

This primary is a terrible feeling because I feel like we are fucking it up and watching it in a kind of slow mo to the election, but I don’t know what the answer is. Sorry, not trying to catastrophize, but so much is at stake and I have lost hope.
