I had the opportunity to see Kamala at a house party yesterday. She was absolutely amazing and I’m all in now. While I think she’s good at large events (where we’ve seen her previously), she shines at small events like this.
I mentioned in a previous post that my daughter has been able to ask questions to many candidates, and she was able to again last night. Kamala is the only one who answered the question directly, got down on her level so as not to intimidate her, and explained her answer in an age appropriate way before addressing me and the remainder of the crowd.
She also sought us out after to tell my kiddo how brave she was for asking a question and how important it was for kids like her to use their voices for kids that can’t use theirs, and I about died. She was just so kind and gentle with my child.
She’s also absolutely stunning up close, which I was just not prepared for.
Oh, and we got to meet her husband Doug, and now my kiddo thinks she’s twitter famous.

Good news:
Kamala raised enough to air the anti-Trump ad in Iowa.
Bad news:
I’ve been on the phone with Iowa voters for nearly 3 hours and haven’t spoken to a single person who is supporting Kamala. Although to be fair, most are undecided.
Ok news: I was only told Democrats are stupid and to fuck off once!

One day I’m going to spontaneously combust from rage. I adore Katie Porter, but there is no way this was an accident. Team Liz sure likes to take stuff from Kamala's campaign and act like they own it

Speaking of not knowing someone was running
The announcement comes one day after former Pennsylvania congressman and retired Navy admiral Joe Sestak announced the end of his campaign.

"Former PA congressman and retired Navy admiral" is now the most I have ever known about this guy. I did know he was running but only because my work email somehow ended up on his mailing list.

jaygee I talked with my SIL on Thanksgiving about the Katie Porter and Warren/Harris thing, and it doesn't sound like there's bad blood with Harris after all, but more that she is closer to Warren after studying with her for so long. Evidently Liz was "mad" at Porter for taking so long to endorse her, but she's got a super fine line to walk to keep the conservatives in her district from thinking she's just a knee-jerk liberal (she's doing an amazing job at that BTW). She doesn't think Harris "has the juice" to get the nomination, but she didn't have anything disparaging to say about her at all, when I said she was still my choice.

I understand the effort toward transparency but I fear this is just further degradation into our government being reality tv

CA governor Gavin Newsom will be campaigning for Kamala in Iowa.
Which makes up for the bonkers interview I heard today from former SF mayor and ex boyfriend Willie Brown where he basically “I don’t even know her”’d Kamala and said Bloomberg has a shot. 🤦🏻♀️

Kamala is coming near me this month. At first I was super excited, but you have to buy a ticket to attend and the cheapest one is $250. Now, I honestly would pay that but they want me to buy a ticket without giving any info except a start time. That's weird right? It starts at 1230. What kind of event could this be?

These are held in people's homes so as a security precaution, they don't want to give out the location

This is not at all Kamala specific, it happens at every level of government, but it really bothers me that money is basically a requirement for access to those asking for our votes. I know fundraisers are necessary, but I choose to be generous with my time since I can't be as generous with my money and it always feels like a gut punch when I get these invitations to have dinner with a candidate and 300 other people if I just make a big enough donation when I've often been spending all of my free time advocating for these politicians. I don't have $500 to donate for 30 seconds and a selfie, KWIM? To be fair, some candidates are *fantastic* at showing up for their volunteers and making them feel heard. Tim Kaine is great at this. Jennifer Wexton is great at this. I never, ever felt taken for granted by them.

Ugh, I'd much rather see her when I could bring my whole family in a more open event. I'll probably end up passing on this, it wouldn't be enjoyable to me to attend alone.

It could be held in an HOA or country club ball room/event room or something similar but often these are in private homes, IME

I was just reading a recommendation from someone on twitter that said you can always reach out to the campaign and mention previous donations and they might extend an invite for a lower entrance fee. They want enthusiastic people in the room so sometimes they will negotiate. I don’t have any experience with that but maybe worth a shot.
Honestly I’ve seen her twice (once on her book tour and once at her campaign kick off) and I highly recommend it if you can swing it. She’s amazing in person.

I don't even mind the $250 but I would be upset if because I was only contributing that amount I didnt get to meet her or whatever the $1000 level attendees get. Which isn't spelled out. I'm new to all this I guess and just like more concrete info 😆. At this moment I'm strongly considering going, both because I want to meet her and I'd also love to meet some more like-minded people around this area because so far I've met zero. I'd be going solo though and I am worried about my social awkwardness.
