Swalwell has officially joined the race. My reaction to this was "why?", we will see if he brings something new to the table PSA has an interview with Julian Castro for those who need an intro - I am finding it helpful

My reaction to this was "why?", we will see if he brings something new to the table PSA has an interview with Julian Castro for those who need an intro - I am finding it helpful I think I’ve seen reference to him running with gun control as his main issue. Which, I’m always glad to have talked about more. So, welcome Rep Swalwell. You got some tough competition

Good thread with many of Senator Harris’s policies and actual links.
Worth a bookmark for future net battling, you know if you’re into that sort of thing.

However, I'm here for him forcing the issue of gun reform harder into the debate.

He could have said, "Our economy may not be able to handle the number of refugees we would like to take in, but [insert actual plan for addressing crisis in Northern Triangle]." But no, he stuck his penny loafer in his dentures.

You got some tough competition I kind of appreciate the one issue candidates because I figure (provided they raise the $ to debate), they’ll be able to provide really pointed insight into their topics during the debates. I feel like the goal isn’t for them to win, but to sharpen whomever the nominee ends up being on some specific important issues.

Ugh. This is why I don’t think people were necessarily wrong when they said that Bernie appealed/ would have appealed to a lot of Trump voters. Bernie and Trump both laud nationalism. It’s gross coming from Trump, and it’s almost even worse coming from a so-called socialist.

I thought this was a good op-Ed about age and gender (and also a little bit, race) in politics. It definitely caused me to reflect more on some of my own biases. www.nytimes.com/2019/04/06/opinion/sunday/age-women-men-2020.html?smid=nytcore-ios-share“‘Promise’ itself is gendered. Research consistently shows that in American workplaces, women tend to be promoted once their managers see them perform well; men are promoted if managers believe in their potential to do well. We’re running the same experiment in politics: Voters, donors and journalists are all excited by the great leadership potential of young men who leapfrog up the political ladder. They expect women to prove themselves before they move forward.”

I’m here. He also looks like a young John Edwards and it skeeves me out. I'd like to think that some of the candidates, like Swalwell, know they don't have a shot at the nomination but want to take the opportunity to promote a policy or issue that the others aren't focused on. Ideally Swalwell's position on gun control will get enough attention now that the ultimate nominee will take his ideas on board and carry them into the White House.
Too optimistic about the candidates' self-awareness? Maybe.

I dont think its too optimistic. I can understand Swalwell and honestly even Sbux dude (because what else will he spend his billions on).
I am trying to understand why people like Gabbard and Williams are in, they dont seem to have any 'presence' or really something unique to bring to the platform.

Oh for sure sometimes it's just ego, or some misguided sense of self-importance. Like what does Tim Ryan think he is bringing to the table??

This is basically how I feel about Inslee. He basically has no chance, but he brought climate change to the table as his main talking point. If anything, he’s positioning himself for a cabinet position.
