I think Trump genuinely might think it doesn’t matter if the government shuts down. But if he honestly thinks Americans are going to be okay with airports not running and not getting tax refunds...he has not met the American public. People at my work will bitch us out for having to park in an overflow lot across the damn street. Inconvenience people in any small way and they get cut-throat. (Not to say that federal workers paychecks aren’t important. Just that many people are selfish assholes who don’t care unless something impacts them in a minor way.) When people aren’t going to receive their tax refunds is when it is really gonna get ugly. Forget about loan applications or clean restrooms. Everyone who thinks they aren’t affected at this moment are in for a rude awakening once they can’t file or don’t get their $$$$

Rachel Maddow is giving a pretty good synopsis of HR1. At least the major points of it.

What the actual fuck? No way he could pass a high school civics or government class. I mean I know we know but to have his administration announce it. I just...people that become citizens in our country have to take tests on this and the person in charge of country lacks the most basic understandings???

So I can’t link nyt article but check out Zach Fuentes who was Kelly’s deputy cos. He didn’t leave with kelly and basically is hiding out for six months when he qualifies for early retirement from the coast guard.
Like they aren’t even bothering to hide the corruption

Guess I should reload my snack drawer at school. Considering 100% of our student population is free and reduced breakfast and lunch. Loss of SNAP is going to hurt so many of my kids.
Don't worry Trump, I'll feed them.
Fuck you.

I can afford to load up on breakfast bars. It's a small thing, really. We fudge the number of kids who take breakfast every day so the cafeteria will provide extra, then we take the rest back to our rooms for kids throughout the day. Every teacher keeps food. It's just normal where I work, unfortunately.

I just caught bits of it. He gutted me with the part about spilling his blood on the bridge In Michelle Obama's book, she has a picture of Barack and her holding Lewis' hands as they mark the anniversary of it and I tear up every time I look at it. Their kids and her mom are in the picture, too, and it just guts me that as young as their daughters are, it was only two generations prior.

This is why senior administration officials should actually have some government experience, instead of just being outspoken supporters of the president 😤 It's why political appointees should take counsel from career civil servants. Career civil servants know how their agencies run and what their departments do. They create briefing books for any new administration so the pres and appointees fully understand. The problem is this administration, at least at the top, doesn't GAF and so haven't bothered to educate themselves about what the government agencies do. RAAAAAAAAGE!

Check out @arlenparsa’s Tweet: Slowed down to half speed you can see how Trump's logic sounds just like that of a drunk person. I am going to struggle to put this into the correct words, so bear with me: I agree that his behavior *should* be deeply concerning. But I don’t think he’s drunk (beyond the fact that he says he doesn’t drink), I don’t think he’s on something, I don’t even think there is some mental deficit that has a medical cause. My FIL talks in literally the exact same manner; he has for the 12 years I’ve known him and when I’ve quizzed H on it he says he doesn’t think it was this bad when he was a child but has gotten progressively worse over the last 20 years. That speech pattern- in my FIL at least- is what he relapses too when he realizes he’s not winning an argument because no matter how confidently or matter of factly he speaks you’re going to call him out on his bullshit. So he shifts to this mumbling, circular logic to try and confuse you so you get distracted and point out he doesn’t make sense and ask what’s wrong because he’s not making sense and suddenly the conversation isn’t about whatever it was in the first place anymore. It’s moved on to something he’s in control of, that he’s sent it to, and that’s a lot more comfortable for him so in his mind he has won. So it is deeply concerning but not for the same reasons I think Chris Hayes is implying. It’s concerning because it’s behavior of someone who doesn’t have the answers and isn’t even bright enough to try to find them or realize they are needed or care that they’re needed. It’s someone who has decided that what they know is all they need to know and to hell with anyone suggesting otherwise. Those are deeply concerning personal attributes for anyone in a position of power of leadership IMO, but most especially for the POTUS. Sorry that’s a novel. I obviously have a lot of feels. And it’s probably why I have such a visceral reaction to 45 but all of it- the way he talks, his reliance on insults and belittling anyone who doesn’t agree with him- it’s just all so familiar in a not good way.
