Everything looks and sounds great! Still not doing a party. Sunday we're going to Chattanooga to the children's museum, lunch, then the aquarium. Maybe back to the museum if the kids feel like it. It will be us, booarogue and her crew, and our other friends that have a three year old. I'd say I'm doing the least, but I'm driving an hot and a half each way, so I am putting some effort into it 😂 That sounds awesome!

My sister lives 20 minutes from Sesame Place and my parents are not much further. So, instead of a bday party, we're going to go down to see them and all go to Sesame Place. We'll have cake at my parents' afterward. Two weeks later we're going to do something similar for my nephew's 3rd bday— zoo or aquarium for the day and then cake afterward.

We are doing a small family party. I ordered him a Mickey Mouse shirt and cake and will probably get some Mickey balloons.
I am going to see if H wants to just grill hamburgers and hot dogs, and then do fruit and veggies and chips and dip, or if he wants to do something else.

Opinions wanted...
Would you consider it to be tacky or helpful if you got a note with an invitation saying what size clothes your child wears & what his/her interests or needs are?
I'm thinking that if people are THAT concerned, they can get a hold of me and ask, right?

I'm thinking that if people are THAT concerned, they can get a hold of me and ask, right? I let people reach out to me if they need ideas. On that note, is it tacky to say, I don't know WTF to tell you to get my kid, so gift cards are probably the best option?

fierymama Hahahaha I've used the line "we are saving up to get a bigger item so gift cards will help towards that" even if it's a little white lie

I wasn't planning on doing anything this year, but then decided I'll invite a few people to the park for a play date and cupcakes. Somehow on Wednesday I have 12 kids coming. Allison chose some Doc McStuffins decorations and I'm making cup cakes that will resemble the ones in the pic. I'm bought stuff so the kids (aka parents) can make stethoscopes like the one in the pic. I bought crayons and printed coloring pages. I'm not doing food, but I will have water bottles and juice boxes. I also bought some little Doc McStuffins party favors and we will have bubbles. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

My sample stethoscope for tomorrow... I think it came out super cute and the kids will be able to do most of it with parents help. I'm cutting everything out tonight. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

So we're doing a monster theme because W loves the monster armpants got him. W and I have. Are. Googly eyes for everything (paper plates we drew on and then added black circles to) that will go on our bushes, balloons, big paper pom poms. It's a monster if you put googly eyes on it. We bought a bunch of stuff off Oriental trading so I'm all prepared with that. Food: burgers, sausages, veggie burgers, and grilled corn. Sides: corn and bean salad, veggie plate, fruit plate (both to look like monster faces if I'm creative enough), chips and dips and baked mac and cheese. Dessert: monster cupcakes with eyes. I'm using star and grass tips for the monster hair. armpants will be assisting. Drinks: green monster punch, pop, water, and juice boxes Activities: create a monster activity and huge bubble machine in the front yard Favors: monster slime in containers w and I will put googly eyes on and monster temporary tattoos. Pdq That's the invite, monster cupcake trial run, create your own monster, googly eyes, and us making slime. We didn't get to do a first birthday so I wanted to make this one fun. Poof

coconutbacon and jedi librarylady layloo what are you favorite veggie burgers or sides? I have some vegetarian/vegans coming but they won't give me any info because they don't want to be a bother. Help please. I want to make sure they feel comfortable.

booarogue, I'm a big fan of veggie burgers with a black bean base, or the kind where you can see veggies in it— dr pragers, Gardenburger, and gardein are ones I'll reach for to bring to a BBQ.

Also, booarogue, your sides sound perfect for a vegetarian!

booarogue, I don't really like veggie burgers (terrible vegetarian here) but as long as there are plenty of non meat sides, I am fine with that. I love sides! Also, I have this recipe for crockpot vegetarian slow cooker beans that makes a lot and is sooooo good, meat eaters will like it too! www.layersofhappiness.com/crockpot-vegetarian-baked-beans/But I would be happy with what you are having too...especially the baked mac n cheese!

Can I get some thoughts on party food??
We were going to do a taco bar, because delicious, easy, and everyone loves tacos. My H has now decided he doesn't want to go that route, and is considering pancakes with lots of topping options, sausage, and fresh fruit... As a party goer, how would you feel about this?
We have no guests with dietary restrictions.
Fwiw, he will be doing all of the cooking as I will be very close to my due date.

If it is afternoon, I would prefer the taco 🌮 bar.

mommabakes, i also agree it would depend on the time. Is that all you would have for food? Or would you have like a quiche, breakfast casserole, bagels, etc to go with the pancakes?

I too need to figure out food. and +1 to wanting a taco bar but H doesn't. He also doesn't want to grill. i bet if he could have it his way he'd order pizza and be done with it. I'm not going that route. we are doing family only and with all of us it's about 20 people. I am thinking of the following:
fruit, cheese, cracker tray chips rolls baked penne pasta simple salad - spinach, red onions, strawberries and a vinaigrette dressing
I need another main dish. I can do the penne with ground beef or with just cheese. but it's super easy to make and makes a lot. but would need another dish to make sure everyone has enough food.
cold cut platter? pinwheels?
what do you all think?

RunsforWineandCarbs and fierymamaIt's a lunch time party. We would do a pretty basic egg casserole with it, maybe also some kind of hash browns if we did it. Honestly, I don't like pancakes and am unsure of how other people would feel about this for food. We're doing family only, but that's still 30 people, so whatever we decide on it would be a lot of cooking :/ I'd love to just grill, but our grill isn't big enough to do that much food, and a new grill isn't in the budget right now.

I also decided on tacos but DH wasn't crazy about the idea but he's not doing the work so he's OK with it. However, he did throw out the idea of also adding fish tacos and I was all...but I'm doing the cooking the day before and I'm not adding a third type to what I'm doing so he said he'd do it. We'll see if it happens. He said he would also do them the day before and then reheat in the microwave so then we'll have the house smelling like fish, yay.
Oh and when we were having tacos at dinner the other night E said "I like it" and "good" completely unprompted, which sealed my decision on tacos for his party! I may have already shared that here but I forget...pregnancy brian.

I figured out what to bake for the party. I'm going to do cupcakes and use the "perfect chocolate cake" recipe on the Hershey's cocoa label. Then this PB frosting. I tested today and OMG they are delicious. I'm going to take a bunch to a friend to get them out of our house b/c I would eat them all too quickly.

mommabakes I mean I would eat pancakes for lunch, but is probably think it was a little odd. Unless it fits into the theme. But you know I'm team taco bar for life!

mommabakes I live breakfast stuff and if it was around brunch time I think it would work. Maybe grill the day before and then heat everything up in the oven right before the party if you undercooked the burgers a bit they won't be overdone. Maybe.

Any ideas for party food? Abigail's party is this Saturday from 10am-12pm. It's very casual- a small group of good friends with kids right around Abigail's age. Including my kids, there will be 7 kids age 4 and under and a handful of adults. We'll definitely be having cupcakes, and I'm leaning towards just serving snack foods rather than a meal.
I was thinking cut up fruit for sure. Maybe I could make a special dip for it or something? Not really sure what else given that it will be mid-morning.
It's a Minnie Mouse theme if that matters, but I don't have much time to get creative.

That was my favorite kind of cake growing up— my mom always made the Hershey cake for me for my birthday, with whipped cream between the layers and a chocolate frosting. I bet the pb will be delicious!
