mwhip M is obsessed with farting, too. She'll walk all the way across the room to come toot on my leg and then announce "I tooted on you." You know, in case I wasn't already aware.

Morning. I am late as usual, I was up too late going through boxes that had arrived and clearing out stuff for recycling. Mh is grouchy bc I didn't break down the boxes and he had to do it this morning. I went to Ikea last night to get 2 large golden retrievers to be J's puppy's parents to complete the dog family. I also got a jute rug bc the rug we have in the living room probably won't survive long since it's a high traffic area. I need to get teacher gifts today since I may work remote on Friday..

M & I are going to see Beauty and the Beast tonight with my SIL & FIL, since my MIL is gone. The best part is they sell wine at the theater in an adult sippy cup so you can take it inside with you.

Can you give me an example of the kids using baby talk? I’m trying to figure out if M does it? Is it pronunciation related? mwhip klong11

mwhip RE: E's speech, do you think it's an issue of can't, or won't? If the latter, I would just pretend you cannot understand her when she talks in a silly/unintelligible voice. If it's the former, might be worth speaking with your pedi about just to see what s/he thinks. I know a lot of public schools do offer speech services, basically an in-house therapist employed by the district. eta: I do think there's something to be said for peer pressure in cases where the child *can* speak correctly but doesn't. They reach an age where other kids start commenting on it, and I think in a lot of cases that's enough to kind of snap them out of bad habits.

lahdeedah E will just use a baby type of voice, like the same language, but it's harder to understand her. Kind of like when an adult 'baby talks' to babies. Higher pitched, whiny, super fucking annoying, etc. Usually I tell her to stop talking like a baby and talk normal and she does. flamingo I think it's both. I understand 99.9% of what she says, because I'm around her more. H asks me about 50% of the time what she is saying. Sometimes it's just the way she talks, others she does have issues pronouncing letters. L is very hard for her, I've worked with her a bit about putting her tongue behind her back teeth when she says it, but I'm not consistent. And I guess kind of lazy because I just know what she's saying, but it's definitely not helping her. I'm trying to think of what other letters, because I now there are a few more, but L is the worst. Unfortunately we just had her check up last week, but if we go again, I'll bring it up. I wonder if any of the other kids in her class have the same issue...I don't want her to be made fun of, but I also don't want to make a BIG deal out of it, unnecessarily.

This was in our 5 year well visit hand out: Language Intellectually and verbally, a five year-old’s self-expression and vocabulary develop rapidly. Your five-year-old’s speech should be completely understandable, although some articulation (pronunciation) problems may persist. He should be able to pronounce all vowels and the following consonant sounds: b, d, g, h, k, m, n, ng, p, w, y (yellow). The following consonant sounds may still be difficult, but should be mastered by age 6: f, l, sh, th, v. By age 7 all consonant sounds should be mastered. The following sounds may take until age 7 to be mastered: ch, soft g as in George, r, s, th, wh, z.

Update: they’re 5.5 hours in, the left lung transplant was successful. Things in there looked worse than expected, so it is a very good thing this is happening now.

After reading what I posted....can someone give me a different word with a soft G, cause both Gs when I say George sound strong to me.... I googled (which is a hard G). Soft G is followed by either e, I, or y. Hard G is followed by any other letter. Soft G = gentle, gem, germ, cage, age, angel, orange Hard G = goat, gutter, dragon, foggy, eagle, gas, gum

M did great in his Christmas program and then immediately threw up.. we had lunch plans and shopping but we're home snuggling now. Apparently theres a stomach virus going around all the elementary schools. I'm glad he got to do his program first though..

Thank you for that klong11! I'm going to copy it and go over all those letters/sounds with E tonight. It puts my mind a little at ease since L is on that list as mastered by age 6.

peachsmama, oof. I hope it was a one-off. BTW, I meant to ask yesterday--do you know why the recommendation was for him to have another hearing test at audiology then getting his ears drained at ENT? Seems like it should be the other way around for an accurate test? I hope his hearing is intact and it's just fluid.
