Geberally if I had to do it again and we were footing the bill, I'd get as much secondhand gear as I could. Some of this stuff barely gets used (see: our baby swing, which everyone swore would save my life and DD used for maybe an hour total), and you can find some awesome deals cause people just want this crap out of their house. We recently scored a City Mini double stroller for $50. We walk the dog 3x/day, so it's a necessity. A neighbour with a NB and toddler raved about hers, which her ILs bought at BRU for...$650. Yikes! MH was like "I once bought a CAR for $800", hahaha. I concur! Our PNP is 2nd hand I picked up at Once upon a Child. That was when I didn't know about JBF but still I think I paid $20 for it? Baby Swing also 2nd at OUAC for like $40 and I swear it looked practically brand new. We used it a lot for DS so more than worth it. Definitely don't look over 2nd hand gear, there are good bargains to be found for sure. SaveSaveSaveSave

versed, Sharpie! ack! yeah....nothing really takes it out unfortunately. That stinks about your PPB bag. Ugh! I would be mad about that. I have ruined many work clothes with my daily use of sharpies. All my sharpies will be high out of kids reach when our office reno is done!

Also cythe, I forgot to add to my post above - having trouble editing. You're going to need at least 2 covers for your pillow. Baby can be messy eaters.

cythe I got a boppy but never used it for nursing. It was too uncomfortable so I actually sat on it like a donut since my lady bits were super sore for a few weeks

cythe , any backpack with some room will likely work just as well as something like a Ju-Ju-Be. I went with the pricier option because I like the material it is made from (antimicrobial, stain resistant, and machine washable) and that it has insulated drink pockets. Love our Boppy though, got a ton of use out of it. Also had 2 covers for switching out when one got messy.

cythe Thanks for the boppy tip! Off to check if the deal is available online. We lost our boppy to the bug infestation and we used ours all.the.time. I would say it was one of the most used baby items we had. I had the my breast friend too, but DS loooved the boppy. Yet another thing DH is bringing back from the USA later this month!

I also have the breast friend, but am looking at getting a boppy too. I live in a ranch-style house, and carrying the pillow back and forth down that hallway is just too much, lol. But seriously, I think the boppy will be better for tummy time and propping him up. The breast friend is too rigid for that.

August Blooms I HATE my jujube. I would not recommend. The zipper broke in the first month of using it and since I was gifted it at my shower, it was already outside of it's warranty period. After fighting with their customer service, I was forced to ask a good friend who got it for me for a receipt, it was humiliating. Then the zipper broke AGAIN on the replacement they sent me. The quality is just not there and their customer service is awful. The skip hop I bought in the interim was so much better and still going strong!

chitownsully Good to know, I hate it when brands have terrible customer service. They opened a buy baby buy near my house and another new baby store that carries some of the brands recommend so I'm going to check them out. This thread has me wanting to go through my baby stuff to start my shopping list and start buying all the things!

cougarette, yup. MBF definitely not suitable for tummy time or sitting up. I used the mombo for that but it's still a bit firmer I think than a boppy. I do prefer the MBF to the mombo for nursing.

I didn't BF, but we used the Boppy for tummy time and propping DD up. I found it handy.

I never had an issues nursing with the boppy, we used it for quite a while. Also used it for propping DD in sitting and occasionally for tummy time.
I have a jujube- no problems with the integrity of the bag, its held up with intermittent use over the last 2 years. I didn't find it roomy enough, but will likely be trying it out again with this baby!

RE: Ju-Ju-Be, I had an issue with something I bought once and it was purchased while I was still pregnant. I was out of the warranty period but upon providing the receipt they still sent me a replacement, so my experience was pretty positive there. The replacement has worked just fine.

All this talk actually got me listing stuff we need and thanks for the registry completion discount info. Also I am a dumb dumb...I cant figure out how it works? Do you need to buy a certain amount of stuff in each category to qualify? Can someone help explain it to me please?

Are expensive diaper bags really worth the money? I'm asking objectively, and 0 judgement for those who have them. As I mentioned earlier I'm at a 12 about money right now, so I'm looking at a $35 backpack style from BRU. It has good reviews and no glaring quality issues. Should I not even bother and get a more expensive name brand? I just don't know what I should splurge on, you know. For DS I treated myself to a Kate Spade diaper bag and I also got the Eddie Bauer backpack diaper bag I registered for. I hated the expensive bag and still use the backpack. Thinking about looking for a bigger backpack for 2.0. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk I could have written this exactly. Got an expensive Kate Spade bag. Used it a little bit, but ended up using a SkipHop backpack more. Still using the backpack now as his preschool bag even though we've gotten him several character backpacks. We always revert back.

duskymonkey, are you talking about Amazon's registry? If so, the completion discount coupon will be for a single purchase (so you'd want to buy everything eligible at one time), and you'll get it a few months before the due date. Don't believe you need to have any purchases off the registry beforehand. The "categories" stuff is used for if you are trying to earn the free box of samples they offer, separate from the completion discount. Finally, Amazon has a diaper rewards thing that if $1000 of stuff is purchased off the registry, you get a free $100 for diapers.

arimaythea, appreciate the explanation. Yes it's for amazon which I should've specified. I think I am confused when I saw certain items "eligible for completion discount" or something like that. So you do have get everything from the registry list to qualify is that right?

So you do have get everything from the registry list to qualify is that right? I was confused at first with the wording too. You don't need to get everything on your registry in order to get the discount. Think of it as a discount to help you get to completetion as opposed to a discount for completion. *but it is only for one order so plan accordingly!

duskymonkey, yeah basically they will just send you a one-time-use coupon for 15% off. It will only work on items that are labeled in your registry as "eligible for completion discount". So those are the items to focus on when you decide to use the coupon.

I've been building my registries. It will end up being target and Amazon.
My word of thought for this moment is GLASS BOTTLES
It was such a nuisance to clean the milk fat off plastic bottles. Glass will come clean easier in the dishwasher.
Also, don't get a ton of bottles. Then you have to stay on top of dishes more often. Yeah, you will still run out. But 6 is more than plenty.

I have heard about this and poked around Amazon a bit, but didn't see anything about it.

I don't even know why we didn't just get the bigger bottles after the 2oz ones, but alas. We're set in bottles.
