Any bottle preferences? Used Dr Brown last time but wanted something with less parts this go 'round. I love MAM and the Playtex vent ones

Sound soothers are the best. We got this one for DS and still use it every night. Yes, yes, yes to a soother! We got this Baby Einstein soother and at 18 months, DD still uses it daily. +1 to the aquarium. DD still loves hers and I threw a second on the registry for 2.0.

We aren't planning on buying much at all for DS2. But the first time, I wish I had more front-zipped newborn PJs. I was so paranoid putting clothes over the newborns head and also worrying about the belly button.
Also, +1 to the Rock n Play. It's the best, mostly because it's so much higher off the ground.
If anyone is having a planned CS, our reclining chair saved me the first few weeks. I slept on that damn thing for weeks. We never had a glider, but the rocking recliner turned out to be awesome.

burritosateverymeal reminded me that I will definitely be getting another glider recliner for #2's room. Won't be on the registry since we'll probably get it at our local La Z Boy retailer. We got one for DS' nursery and I have spent SO much time in it since he was born - nursing, rocking to sleep, reading books, sleeping in it myself. So so comfy. Definitely a splurge but I think it was worth the cost for us with how much use it has gotten.

You all have had me thinking more seriously about my little lair for #2. Another girl so we don't need much initially.
1. SwaddleMe or Mircle Blanket Swaddle - DD was a super spitty baby and hers aren't in such good shape anymore
2. New baby monitor, probably video and maybe dual video? I so wished we would have had it with DD because I never really could tell the difference between her cries and just ended up going in every single time... which made teaching her to sleep a lot harder down the road probably
3. Probably more clothes in the 3-6/9 month range. DD was born at the end of winter so I don't know how much overlap there will be past 3 or 6 months or until the weather warms up.
4. Breastfeeding supplies - nipple butter cream, pumping bags, etc - I've got to return a lot sooner this go around
Everything else is pretty much just wants after that. Like A new diaper bag would be nice as ours is gross but we would make it without one.

I need to get DS's clothes down out of the attic to see what all we have. I know we don't have jackets in newborn or 3month sizes, so I got some of those. I also got some plain white long sleeve NB onesies to go under all the short sleeve NB onesies I have.
I found some muslin swaddle blankets on clearance. I'm also getting some more burp cloths in the brand I like (Just One You at Target). I went through burp cloths and bibs like it was my job with DS. I never knew a baby could spit up THAT MUCH. Anyway.
For feeding - breastmilk storage bags, disposable breast pads (I leaked so so much and the reusable ones just didn't cut it until 6mo or so), lanolin, lanolin, lanolin, new bottle nipples
Other - Pacifiers, more baby hooded towels, another white noise machine (DS's will be moving with him), another set of pack n play sheets, a few more wearable blankets/velcro swaddle blankets
Boring - convertible car seats, diapers, wipes
We won't be changing the theme of the nursery, which is children's books. DS though will get a newly decorated room. I think it'll help him to move to his big boy room and bed if it's something new and special for him. I'm thinking Sesame Street since he loves Elmo.

Question: since our babies will be fairly small during winter can someone go over the recommendations as far as car seats and coats go?
Can I get a lighter coat to go under carseat straps or no go at all?

Any bottle preferences? Used Dr Brown last time but wanted something with less parts this go 'round. We used Dr. Brown's for DD and plan to use them again. I already have a ton, so I'm not about to buy more. We bought the thing that lets you wash the parts in the dishwasher. So much easier than hand washing.

Then you can cover her with a blanket once she's strapped in.

cythe, I'd put DS in the car seat in a thin jacket. I'm talking like the kind that come in Carter's outfit sets type jackets. But anything with any poof to it, no.

Okay, so piggy back question - if I have long sleeved stuff for baby, do I need to get a light jacket/coat. Is covering the car seat and using blankets enough to keep baby warm?
*should add I live in southern Virginia and our winters are ~30 degrees every day. Snow maybe 1 time a year.

Strap baby in car seat with coat. Remove baby from seat without adjusting the straps. When you put baby back in the seat you should be able to clip baby back in and straps should still be snug w/o coat. If they're loose, the coat is too thick.

I think I'd still get a jacket, cythe. I got one and I'm in South Carolina. Of course now it'll be a very mild winter again, lol.

I'm in MD with similar weather and I always put at least long sleeve and jacket/sweatshirt/fleece on DD with a blanket. I don't think just a long sleeve top is enough. IMO

cythe, I've heard the phrase that new babies need 1 more layer to keep themselves warm than adults in the same environment, so I do think having some jackets for winter is a good idea. I'd have a thin jacket/sweater/fleece you could use in the car seat, and a warmer one in case a situation comes up where you'd be spending a longer period of time outside.

cythe I deal with Canadian winters, for DD I would warm up the car (if it was really cold) put her in her fleece sweater (long sleeve onsie underneath) and put a blanket over. We also got this car seat cover babyparka.ca/car-seat-cover-.htmlIt goes around the bucket seat like a shower cap so there is nothing that will get between the baby and the straps. ETA I see your in Virginia so the Baby Parka might be too much.

danvers, I had a couple sleep gowns that were the Circo brand from Target. I didn't have an issue getting them over DS's 90something percentile noggin!

Alright so I've added to my list: -winter clothes(DD was born in the spring) -a portable white noise machine (right now we use an old iPad of mine with a white noise app for DD) -a Bassinet -some swaddles /wearable blankets. I did not swaddle DD but I'm definitely going to try with this one. - treat myself to some nice nursing bras and tanks and a real pumping bra.

I started a Target registry pretty quickly mainly to use as a shopping list and for the discount. Of course all I have gotten for number two has been a Cookie Monster onesie and a Tula when they were on sale... neither of those on the list or from Target. Other things on the list: Second glider rocker Additional crib mattress pads Car seat cover - like the baby parka August Blooms linked! Long-sleeve clothing Second pack and play (hopefully borrowed until baby moves to crib and ours could move out to living room) Double stroller - eventually. Zutano, or similar booties

Question: since our babies will be fairly small during winter can someone go over the recommendations as far as car seats and coats go? Can I get a lighter coat to go under carseat straps or no go at all? Ditto what was said about fleece. I preferred to put multiple blankets over DS when he was small, and will probably repeat that, so DS2 will be in a long sleeved onsie, pants, socks, and have blankets over the straps most likely. For me that is also easier since if you babywear you won't want all the extra layers when you get to your destination.

We cloth diaper and were team green with DD too so we have all the basics in gender neutral. If #2 is a boy we'll need clothes but we'll cross that bridge later.
My list this time around consists of replacing basics like baby wash, nursing pads, soothers, lanolin etc.
Other than that I want a new nursing cover and a new woven wrap. I did buy a new diaper bag off a buy and sell because I found one I really liked and my old one isn't in great shape anymore. We'll also need a new sound machine eventually but baby will be in our room for 6-9 months anyhow so no rush on that one. We already bought the add on camera for our video monitor
DD is moving to a big girl room so most of our purchases are actually for that not the nursery. She is getting my old bedroom suite so it's mostly stuff like bedding, curtains, decorations etc

This is a great thread to read, since I'm in the process of making a shopping list for DH when he goes back to the states for a week in July. Baby stuff, toys, and clothes are 3x times the price over here...import duties....😡
Here's what we're getting locally: -entirely new nursery, because the stupid bug invasion at our old place destroyed all of DS' things we had planned to use for DS2 (glider, crib, changing table, changing pad, diaper pail, rugs, end tables, lamps, etc.)
From USA: -woombie swaddles (since it is always 90-100 degrees plus here) -new diaper bag (chic backpack style) for me -sound only monitor (we'll use the video monitor for DS2 and the sound one for DS1) -rock 'n play with auto-rock (the one we have doesn't have the auto-rock) -baby meds -new pump parts for my Madela PISA (tubing, membranes, flanges)
I think that's it! Since it's always warm here, no need to buy new clothes, as DS' old clothes are all warm weather stuff. I don't think we're going to do a double stroller either, because we will just baby carry DS2 and let DS1 walk or put him in the Ergo. We didn't use the stroller much with DS1 - just because the infrastructure/environment where we live isn't that conducive to it.

cythe, DS was born in November. For Christmas H got me a remote car starter. This made me feel so much better about going out in the winter. I usually kept a winter coat in the car just in case, but just had a fleece jacket for the car seat. As he got a little older we used a car seat poncho and I loved it (https://www.etsy.com/listing/249847210/car-seat-poncho-car-seat-poncho-for-boys?ref=market).

Any bottle preferences? Used Dr Brown last time but wanted something with less parts this go 'round. Just some advice on bottles. Don't go too crazy. DD was terrible at accepting bottles so we had a try A LOT of different ones before we were good. I'd get a few different kinds and stock up when you know which one baby likes best.

My cousin recommended this changing pad to me. www.amazon.com/dp/B00KSW970Y/ref=twister_B009CLFF6C?_encoding=UTF8&th=1I loved the thought of something I could just wipe down when we got something on it. Back when I was pregnant last time it ran around $99 I'm pretty sure, and I didn't want to spend that on a changing pad so I looked around and Target had a knock off one for $39 or so. I got that one and we've been using it ever since. Our SIL asked me to get her one for their second child because she loved ours so much. I'm really sad that Target quit carrying it - it was an online only item at the time I got mine. We have this one. I didn't register for it but was gifted it by a colleague. It is great. Unless your house runs cold. Then the thing is too cold to put baby on and you need to cover it anyway (which defeats the purpose IMO).

If you are having a boy, and plan on circumcising, I highly recommend getting Vaseline in a tube. So much easier/less messy than scooping it from a container. I plan on buying some Zutano brand booties-my other 2 kids had very long, narrow feet that socks would not stay on. Hoping these work. I also plan on buying new nail clippers, some gripe water, infant meds, sleepers-zip ups and gowns, new crib sheets, nursing pads+regular pads for me, and I think that's it. Plus diapers and wipes of course. Love zutanos! Would highly, highly recommend.

Like doodlemommy , we're buying a ton of stuff for DS1 right now, since we're moving him into a big boy room so that DS2 can have the nursery. So a bed, mattress, sheets, curtains, etc. I'm hoping to get the room painted this weekend. -We need a swing since we borrowed one last time. -Pump for when I go back to work. I had a Medela PISA and I liked it but the suction sucks (lol) after using it for over a year. I'm thinking about getting a Spectra this time. -A sound machine since DS1 still uses his. -I need more nursing tanks, since I prefer those to nursing bras and my nursing bras are still in good shape. -I want a few more sets of reusable Bamboobies nursing pads. -I'll buy a few new clothes for the baby but a lot of what we have from DS1 should work. I might need to fill in here and there but we'll have to wait and see. -Looks like I need new bottle nipples, I didn't realize it was recommended to get new.
