The GM news is indicative of a huge problem nationwide: people aren't buying fuel efficient vehicles. They're buying gas guzzlers. It's fine. Its not like we have a global emissions crisis. Ford eliminating it’s sedan line makes my head hurt. I know the profit margin is bigger on SUVs and trucks, but I think the are going to end up reducing their company’s niche so much with this move in the US that it will hurt them in the long run. This makes me sad. I love my fusion and would drive them for forever

It’s not just GM though- everyone is eliminating the little cars. H and I were recently car shopping since we need a second car with my new job. We wanted a 4 door sedan with good gas mileage and small....and as low a price tag as we could get away with. We ended up buying a Hyundai Elantra, which is size equivalent to a Civic or Corolla. After seeing it we expressed interest in their compact sedan (Accent), only to be told that a) its going to be discontinued and b) would actually cost more than the Elantra. The sales just aren’t there on compact cars apparently. Sigh. It makes no sense that a smaller, same flashiness, car costs more than the midsize. Our plan is to trade in my husband’s gas gussling pilot for an accord (or the Toyota version of a mid-size sedan) once we pay off my fusion (we can’t afford two car payments + two kids in daycare with everything else). 3 more years to go, and I countdown every day

I was surprised to not find more options but the sales people kind of shrugged and were like no one wants those. Here it seems like 50% of the cars are Prius or Teslas. But I wanted something different. I ended up leasing a hybrid Accord hoping that in 3 years more would be available. That’s next year and, to be honest, I think there is less availability now. I’ll probably buy a Honda clarity, but it’s not as full efficient as I want.

One third of Europeans know a little or nothing about the holocaust. The number is similar to Americans according to new polls.
4% had 'never heard of it'.
I'm in shock. We aren't that far removed from it.

I ended up buying a Lexus Ct200h- which is a hatchback and basically a prius with a sportier body and still in the price range of a more equipped prius. I love it so much, but Lexus stopped manufacturing them last year. They are a very highly rated used car if you can find one. Lexus is supposed to be introducing something new to replace it and FX they do and don't make it too Lexus-y (which is usually nms). But I agree, there are seemingly less options now than there used to be.

We aren't that far removed from it. Wow. I grew up with family friends who were survivors. It’s hard to fathom not knowing anything about it, especially when families I know are still feeling the generational effects.

Good job Minnesota
It’s official: Minnesota is #1 in America for voter participation for the second election in a row!
2,611,365 voters (an all-time MN record for a mid-term election)
64.25% of all eligible voters (besting 2nd place Colorado)

New interview with Trump. Let the word salad begin.
“One of the problems that a lot of people like myself, we have very high levels of intelligence but we’re not necessarily such believers,” Trump said. “You look at our air and our water and it’s right now at a record clean.”

We aren't that far removed from it. Holy fuck. This was part of my standards when I taught 7th grade social studies. I taught in a suburban city in the most conservative county in SC but the kids were always very interested in it. I left the classroom in 2013 to be a counselor but I wonder what conversations would come up in class now.

I can't remember where I read it but it said the outbreaks are due to the irrigation water being contaminated because of the lessening restrictions on water quality.

Dont tell me they dont know the history behind it, ya know? Where else would you learn that shit?

I'm not surprised that Europeans don't really know about the holocaust. Similar to North Americans not knowing about the travesties done to the indigenous peoples. We hide what we are embarrassed about.
My H visited Auschwitz with his mother as a kid and her family gave her such crap for bringing him. People don't want to remember the horrors.

That doesn’t make grammatical sense. But also...my kid just had to spend a week plus inside and miss a day of school due to shelter in place because of air quality issues. Record clean, my ass.

jkjacq I read the same thing regarding regulations on water and outbreaks of E. Coli. It was retweeted by someone I follow so I can't remember the original source. I would believe it though, makes sense that less regulations could lead to unhealthy bacteria spreading.
