I wonder what GM did with their corporate tax break. Private jets. Definitely private jets. And bonusing out execs and stock buybacks which rose today

I said it on the podcast thread, but Ill mention it here-- Bagman by Rachel Maddow, about Spiro T Agnew... is outlining our current situation. Brilliant. Bingeworthy. The equal of Slow Burn.

Honestly I’m okay with Beto testing the waters. Why not? It doesn’t mean he will run. It doesn’t mean he’ll win the primary but I’m not surprised he wouldn’t want to see if it could happen.

Like how many times has Manafort been caught lying this year? My gosh.
Can’t wait for the sentencing memo to come out because I’m pretty sure that will have some very interesting information in it regarding the many subjects he has continued to lie about since the plea agreement.

Beto O’Rourke was asked by a reporter today about a 2020 run - he said he and his wife are not ruling anything out. This is quite a turnaround from when he was asked on the CNN town hall, which was a stark no. He’s going to do it. Honestly, what else is he going to do for the next 2 years? Squander all that national goodwill? Right? He built incredible momentum and if he ever had the ambition to be president now is his time to test out that idea.

He built incredible momentum and if he ever had the ambition to be president now is his time to test out that idea. He has to seize the moment - and it’s clear that the Democratic Party wants him to run. He’s got a nice chunk of change, name recognition, celebrity-like status, is super likable, and omg he’s actually smart too. He should do it.

Even if he doesn't win the nomination, he can throw his support behind whoever does and stay on the campaign trail. Which keeps his name in the spotlight.

I 100% agree The obstruction clips/tapes were astounding. But the GHW Bush involvement ws a real revelation for me. and the elation/glee of the old men who investigated, to realize what they did and find out the full extent of their defense of democracy was really touching

Good Morning everyone. Been a while since I wandered in here but I wanted to say hi. Also just finished reading this: In 2008, there was hope. In 2018, there is hurt. This is America's state of hate. Its a good read and greatly lays out hate in America today. Just leads me to think we need to find new ways to increase tolerance awareness as well as quash stereotypes. But we will never get anywhere near being able to do that with a Republican in public office. Period. And even so it seems those with decency and tolerant views are now the minority based on the "Trumpian" views being expressed by current leaders as well as the amount of support for the "new way of life" by the people based on the mid term election. Thoughts? Reactions?

My current theory is that leadership want Beto in the primary fight so he can be a boost as Veep I agree. PSA touched on this in their podsgiving mailbag episode. That there is a window for candidates and he is probably in his window now. That if Barack hadn't run in 08 it would have been a different time for him to run in 12/16/20 and it might not have been his time.

So my thinking is if they both keep lying how do we know which is the truth? I dont think THEY know what truth is, so how do you prove beyond reasonable doubt when there are so many different stories? does that make sense?

OOOh I love this.
I just read Into the Raging Sea (about the freighter that sunk in a hurricane in '15) - and it was great and eye opening the million things that went wrong (mostly because of capitalism) leading up to it. Also I remember the event happening, but I don't remember much coverage once the NTSB reports came out - probably because it was summer of '16.
I feel like we should have a book thread.
