Taitai I love green bean casserole! No one on Hs side eats it except my BIL and I so they never make it. Totally making it for me now this year! duskymonkey that cake looks delicious. I have never baked a cake before and am not even sure I have cake pans. Maybe I should add that to my XMas list. Do you know if this can be baked like a sheet cake? We have a carry-in/potluck thing the week after Thanksgiving but seeing as I’m not normally a baker I’m a bit intimidated.

H is anti turkey so we will be grilling steaks, which of course I've put off getting until today. Unfortunately, our other car is in the shop getting new tires so H has mine, which leaves 0 cars for me to run to the butcher and grocery store. Hopefully he gets off early so I can get it done before they close.
H is also a pumpkin pie lover, so I'll be surprising him with one tomorrow. He hasnt mentioned one (because I dont like pie) so he can enjoy eating the whole thing himself.

I was planning to leave work at noon but didn’t get out til close to 2. Still, better than 4 or 5.
I got DS1 a mini tree from 5 Below and we just finished decorating it. DS2 is asleep and I’m sitting down finally, being grateful my mother insists on making everything for thanksgiving so I don’t have to cook or bake tonight.

DD2 has been fever free for almost 24 hours! Her cough sounds a whole lot worse but pedi said that it’s actually better than her old wet, nonproductive cough 🤷♀️ She also is negative for pneumonia per yesterday’s check X-ray. So, for once, DD2 is just had a cold with a really high fever.
She isn’t eating a lot still but is playing and being goofy so I think we are almost 100%! She has spent the better part of the evening stuffing things into a box and taking them back out.

Currently pumping and eating a bowl of cranberry relish that wouldn’t fit into the tub 😬 pies and cake are baked. Decided to make gravy tomorrow nstead cos I can utilize the stock “pot” to make it in. Just have to make stuffing, mash potatoes and corn casserole tomorrow. We also may have impromptu guests for lunch. After I’m done pumping in a few, I gotta unmould the cheesecake and thaw it in the fridge! I’m also excited to frost the cake tomorrow. The nut topping smell fantastic and is mak No the house smell so festive.

I just baked the cake today and so far so good, it appears moist and not too dense which surprised me. It's really easy, no beaters involved, just good ol' elbow grease which wasn't all that much and no leavening technique required. I don't see why it can't be baked as a sheet cake? Baking time should be almost similar - maybe a 8-10 minutes extra since. I'll let you all know how it turns out after I get it all put together tomorrow. You could do this in stages too which is nice and definitely use canned pumpkin. Aint nobody got time to make their own pumpkin puree. Oh hello, can I introduce you to Magic line cake pans. They are heavy duty and will last you your lifetime and into the next generation. It's what prof bakers use. You can get them from Amazon. smile.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss_2?url=search-alias%3Dgarden&field-keywords=magic+lineDon't bother with those nonstick pans, you'll regret every owning one. I have/had them and gradually replacing them with magic line pans.

Happy Thanksgiving O17! I hope all of you and your families enjoy eating all the food!! Our big feast isn’t until Saturday, so just a normal day here. I did eat an acai bowl, which was very tasty. We did make cornbread, honey butter, and pumpkin pie, which are now in the freezer waiting for Sat 👍

Happy thanksgiving everyone!
We spent the day with my parents and the baby ate probably the equivalent of my plate. There was nothing he turned down. Even deviled eggs and cranberry sauce were a favorite.
We came home around 4 and now I’m wondering if I should go back over for leftovers since it’s dinner time.

Happy Thanksgiving!
It was amazing to stay home in sweats all day, cook only the foods we eat, nap, and then eat more. DD2 loved all the food but especially the rolls. She is indeed my child.

Happy turkey day O17 CoachTsWife if you are, you're most welcome! curmudgeon puhleez tell us you got them leftovers. danvers sounds like DD2 is much better and it's awesome to just hang out at home. We had a couple of surprise guests for our TG lunch. Luckily I had more than enough food and the house was adequately clean and orderly - just the kids toys but what can you do about that...DS was super excited to have people over. Everything came out well and I was only 30 mins behind. Lil fella ate almost everything he can "chew" only 4 front teeth and especially loved the cranberry relish. The pumpkin layer cake. Taitai , danvers if you're planning to make it. Just a few notes. It's alright to me, it's a change from the usual fruit, chocolate cake types - I would add more ginger ( double ) in both the topping and in the cake and definitely chop up the nuts then it would be pretty good. I guess I like strong flavored foods. There also wasn't enough frosting to frost the sides like in the picture - I just did a naked cake - see pic. You can see there really wasn't enough frosting, IMO the frosting strikes a good balance with the cake - anymore and it would be too much. Cake also isn't too sweet and very moist. So danvers this would make a good sheet cake. You can actually make the brown butter for the frosting ahead of time - just bring it out of the fridge or freezer and let it thaw a bit to easily scoop the top out. The brown butter does add a lovely aroma and flavor. Would I make it again, probably not since hubs does not like nuts, DS does love the topping but he loves everything crunchy. The verdict in the house is they still love the pumpkin chocolate cheesecake recipe and pumpkin pie recipe

Thanks for the Magic Line recommendation! What do you think or Nordic Ware? I have a few baking sheets from them, which I love. They’ve held up over a decade and work really well. Wondering how they compare with magic line. I've seen their half sheet pans if that's what you have and they seem pretty heavy duty - the aluminum ones not the nonstick crap. I do own a few too many (errr ) of their bundt pans and those are solid. I think they specialize in bundt pans. Magic line makes cake pans and I love them for the quality and the sides are straight and corners square and they also come in different sizes. It's a worthwhile investment IMO which you wouldn't regret. I came across them when I was looking for cake rings to make my wedding cake.

I looooove them. I am going to check out their bundt cake ones now. I randomly came across Nordic Ware on amazon - I had no idea about their specialities. Also, I will be looking into magic line for the cake pans! We actually need more of those. We have a few cake spring form rings, which I like okay...but I don’t love them and they are kind of finicky. Your cake looks AMAZING!!! I love how you did a naked cake. I honestly don’t see how you could have possibly frosted the whole thing. I just chopped up the pecans tonight, and everything is ready to bake the cakes tomorrow morning. I also made my cheesecake choc chip pecan ball thing, which I serve with teddy grahams. I might stick some poky sticks in it, to make it look like a turkey. Not sure if that will work. 🤔 Apple pie is made, as is the corn bread and honey butter. Apple sage sausage stuffing is assembled and chilling in the fridge (so we can just stick it in the oven tomorrow). Green bean casserole is the only other side dish left to go, and we’ll throw that together tomorrow before heading over to my friend’s house. Should be fun!!!!

Baby coughs are the worst! There seems to be nothing we can give her and yet she sounds so pathetic. ☹️She mostly just wants to cuddle today and lay on us as we pat or rub her back. She doesn’t really want to eat either.
No crazy Black Friday shopping here for us - maybe some online browsing and a few things here or there but otherwise, just hanging out at the house and snuggling DD2 while DD1 plays.

Leftovers were acquired, but from the in-laws. So different foods and not as good. 😆
Anyone get some good deals today? I ordered DS1 a basketball goal that showed up 1/2 off on amazon. That’s about it. We did get our Christmas tree today! It’s not decorated yet because I’m so tired and have no desire to dig through boxes.

Oh and a couple of nights ago DS1 told me he didn’t want to wear pull ups at night anymore and was going to wear underwear. He had not been waking up dry ever. But ever since he declared this, he’s stayed dry overnight. I don’t know how he just turned it off but fingers crossed he keeps it up.

We've had a great couple of days. We went to the ILs yesterday and it was super laid back and a lazy day since we were the only ones there. Today's been a good day at home. We got the tree up and DS1 was very enthusiastic about it. The best part is that we still have the weekend to go. We really needed a long weekend and it has been great so far.

danvers Ahh - your poor DD2! I hope the cough is easing up. Sending get well vibes your way. curmudgeon That’s awesome about your DS1 staying dry in undies. Fingers crossed he keeps it up! Your other post reminded me that we need to get out scrawny IKEA tree up! CoachTsWife Glad you have had a nice weekend and enjoyed some much needed down time! doodlemommy I love Black Friday/Cyber Monday shopping online. It’s a good thing I don’t live in the states anymore, because I think I’d probably over-do it with all the great deals! Knowing I can only shop for what comes in luggage with visitors keeps me in check 😅

We had a great Thanksgiving today with our friends. The food was delicious, our kids had fun playing together, and there was lots of wine. It went so fast though - I feel like I blinked and it was already time to head home before the kids bedtimes. duskymonkey The brown butter pumpkin cake was a success! I am kicking myself for not getting a picture of it though. It got eaten up completely! I didn’t end up doubling the ginger, but I thought it was nice anyways. I like how it wasn’t too sweet. Tomorrow DH and I have a fancy Christening to go to for some friends (they’re having a champagne reception after the ceremony). It’s pretty formal, so I’m getting a haircut right before to make my hair look half-way decent. Should be nice to have a little fancy outing just DH and I.

MIL and I went shopping and when I got home H was raking the front yard and picking up pecans. I swear I have 10 pounds to shell now. I’ve never made pecan pie before but I’m going to try a chocolate one maybe next weekend or whenever these things are shelled.

All of the family seems to have the sniffles right now. Nothing as bad as DD2s cold but I made homemade chicken noodle soup since no one was super hungry for Thanksgiving leftovers.
The girls are taking a bath right now with the Johnson’s soothing vapor bath stuff and it does seem to help clear the sinuses. Plus it makes lots of bubbles which makes the girls happy.
So the day has pretty much been super lazy with some house chores and naps thrown in as we hope sniffles noses and a touch of sore throat is the worst of this.

My kids have colds too danvers and DD is the absolute WORST when she is sick. The constant whining is driving me up the wall. She also wants to wipe her nose every 3.7 seconds and doesn’t know how to blow so her whole face is raw. We did a long warm bubble bath and ordered in dinner (I made homemade chicken noodle soup yesterday!) and are putting them to bed early. DD has a Vick’s plug in and a humidifier running both of which really help. DS is doing ok for now, his nose only started running this afternoon so hopefully he doesn’t get as bad as his sister 😬

I am joining the sick kids club. Lil fella started a runny nose Thursday evening and DS has been going #2 multiple times a day since Thursday morning. We were hoping it was just a one time deal but during TG lunch he had to go for the 4th time since he woke up and had a skid mark I was busy that day so didn't pay much attention - hubs was dealing with him but yesterday was the same and so was today. He seems fine otherwise. His teacher did tell me a bunch of his class mates were out this week due to sickness of some sort. Luckily he's been able to get himself to the bathroom. Regardless we have had a great long weekend. Today we went to see Santa! at the local garden shop. DS told him he wanted a Rio Grande train - meh...where the heck am I going to produce one of those! I was hoping he would ask for more trains and fish toy of some sort. Now I have to figure out how to get him to change his mind and write a letter to Santa. Well got that one checked off our holiday list. Next weekend we're going tree shopping and it will be DS' first time so he's going to be extremely excited!

Tax software! lol! no seriously I am kinda disappointed at the deals this year. Maybe the specific stuff I am looking for just didn't go on sale? Although I wanted to get some Christmas outfits for the kids and Carters website seems to not work. I am annoyed. Also I was pumped about decorating but after cooking TG meal I am toasted. I am also jeles you have pecans! I loooooveeeee pecans. I love putting them in pancakes, granola and I make mini pecan pies for Christmas that are yummy.
