I keep thinking today is Thanksgiving. I'm feeding LO and we're heading to my mom's as soon as he's done, for the first of 3 Thanksgiving gatherings. Today, Thursday, and next Saturday. None of us feel great so I hope the trip is uneventful. CD1 for me and both boys have a runny nose.

Taitai I would probably not even seek out the Polar Express until my LOs were older except the train station in our town does it. Ours is not super expensive like I imagine ones near big cities might be. We get hot chocolate and cookies while the train makes its way to the North Pole. Once we pick Santa up at the North Pole he visits with each kid and gives them a bell as we make our way back.

We got our tree up but I feel like I’ve done battle with feral cats looking at the scrapes and bruises on my arms. We got a free mostly-pre-lit tree a few years ago but it always needs super fluffing and help to not look so scraggly. A new tree is not in our budget right now so we make do but ouch!
The decorations are slowly making their way from the basement upstairs. We had a ton of limbs down in our yard after the ice storm so H is working on that and I need to get stuff ready for the short school week ahead so decorating is slowly happening. Looking forward to some time off this week!

Just in security Iine waiting to board the last leg of my flight home! I had a great time in Boston at the conference but I miss my babies! I want to drop kick my pump and never see it again, there’s a reason I never pumped for DS. I pumped and dumped but just wanted to keep up supply because I’m not ready to be done. Stoked to nurse my babe in a few hours

I'm not ready for it to be Thanksgiving yet. I signed up for a secret Santa exchange (with ladies I know) and I'm ALWAYS the last minute participant. I gotta get my shit together soon.

We have a birthday party tomorrow evening that I’m sort of dreading. I have to rush home and get DS1 and hopefully make it on time. The mom has a baby the same age as DS2 also so I’m going to try and be outgoing and make a friend.

I can’t believe it’s already Thanksgiving week! I loooove Thanksgiving, so I’m really excited. Thursday is just a normal day here, with DS1 at school and me having to work. So, we’re doing Thanksgiving on Saturday with a friend. We’re going to her place, which means I don’t have to host for once! Yaaaaay!!! Our family is bringing most of the sides/desserts, while she is doing the turkey and fish. I guess no Thomas Keller style chicken this year 🤷♀️. I hope whatever turkey she finds is okay!
We’re probably going to let the kids watch the Macy’s thanksgiving day parade on Friday afternoon, if we can find a YouTube channel that is replaying it. I love seeing the balloons 😁 🎈

CoachTsWife oddly I seriously thought it too and was thinking yesterday morning we needed to plan to go see Santa which is always the weekend after thanksgiving. Hope you had a good family event and both kids will be alright. DS was coughing just earlier this week and we thought for sure he was coming down with yet another cold but luckily it went away. Maybe the change in weather. 🤷🏻♀️ danvers did you get to ride in an actual steam train? There are a few rides out here and they’re all on steam trains so I’m wondering if that’s what makes it dear. It makes sense since maintenance and running them takes a lot of work plus getting coal. Also setting up an artificial tree is such a PITA IMO (last yr was the first time I set one up and it will be the last, the loaner we had was also old but we were so grateful) anyways once it’s decorated it will look as beautiful and special as any other tree. This year we won’t wait too long to get a tree! We’ll probably go get one the week after thanksgiving. doodlemommy so happy you had a good work trip and you get to be home with the kids. curmudgeon I’m sorry but who holds a birthday for kids on a weekday and in the evening? Am I the only one who thinks this is strange and inconvenient for working parents. 🤔 Taitai I totally forgot about Macy’s parade! DS has never watched it before, I think we’ll be doing that this year and I’m excited too about the weekend after, we’ll be listening to Christmas music and I can start decorating and watch Christmas vacation. I dunno why but I look forward to watching it every year 🤣 and every year hubs and I would crack up! I can’t wait until the boys are big enough to watch it too.

duskymonkey Yessss - Christmas Vacation is the best! LO even wore a “You serious Clark?” onesie last year 😂🤣 doodlemommy I feel like I will probably be wanting to drop kick my pump when I go away to the states for a 1.5 week work trip in January. I don’t think I’ll be ready to wean LO, which means pumping and dumping. I remember doing that with DA1 on a work trip to CA and nearly crying as I was dumping milk out in the bathroom of an In-N-Out ☹️😭😢

duskymonkey oh I’m very wtf to a weeknight party. But all the kids are on thanksgiving break and I’m thinking a lot of these moms stay at home. They go to every field trip, school party, lunch, etc. I have a very flexible and understanding boss but I think even she would give me the side eye if I asked off for all these things.

What is on your O17 kid's Christmas list? Family is asking and I have no idea what to tell them. We're having trouble figuring out what to get for him ourselves.

What is on your O17 kid's Christmas list? he loves dancing so I’m thinking the fisher price dance n groove rockit thing or Let’s Dance Elmo. Something he can mimic the moves to. I also got this tent tunnel ball pit thing. I’ll probably regret it. www.amazon.com/dp/B075H9CYCS/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_eKU8BbWVTV8MF

I like to be home and in my pajamas by this time. Preferably with my children already in bed or headed that way. Also a big no for me to bday parties on a weeknight.

curmudgeon even I wouldn’t want to torture my worst enemy let alone another parent and the child. I’m glad I’m not alone thinking it strange to have a kids party in the evening school day or not. I also realize that for some people their weekends are not Sat & Sunday. Even so. 🤷🏻♀️ Even if you’re a SAHM why would you want to have a bunch of kidsall riled up in the evening high on sugar 🤦🏻♀️ We’re already in bath and getting ready for bed by 7pm, by 8pm kids are in bed and that will be a firm bedtime until they’re tweens then it’s 9pm. Well that’s the plan anyways 😬

I am home with DD2 today. She started running a fever on Sunday so we kept her home Monday just to be safe. I thought for sure she’d be fine by today because when I left for work yesterday morning she was eating and playing with barely a temp but by evening she was hot and feverish again and just wanted mom cuddles all night long.
She is playing happily in the bath right now (probably because no DD1 to share it with!) as she ate PB toast for breakfast. No fever yet but I gave Motrin around midnight so we’ll see. I’m hoping the pedi can get her in today because I don’t want to wait with Thanksgiving this week.
Tl;dr - DD2 is sick for the billionth time.

Very dear diary-ish ahead:
Took DD2 to the doctor. Negative for strep, flu, and rsv. We did end up getting a chest X-ray due to her rapid breathing and not-as-high-as-they-like O2 levels. No word back in chest X-ray yet - they’re looking for pneumonia. She seems tired but she hasn’t really had a fever higher than 99.9 today. I’m rocking her now and she feels hot but I’m going to hold off on meds unless she wakes up feverish tonight.
Only good thing that came out of this is the doctor agrees DD2 has been sick an awful lot for someone her age. She did say it’s normal to get up to 12 or so colds a year, especially for daycare kids. . She recommended continuing a “wait-and-see” approach right now because DD2 is developing normally, hitting all milestones, growing and gaining weight and kids who are chronically ill typically do not do all that. I’m glad that even the doctor remarked about all these colds unprompted because I was beginning to feel paranoid it was just me.

Nursing the baby to sleep so I actually have time to catch up here. Work days have me going from 4 am until I get to bed around 8-8:30 and then my days off have been keeping me super busy too. I booked some vacation time to leave work early to go shopping on Friday. So I’m looking forward to that.

I’m taking first shift “sleeping” with DD2 so you all get my random thoughts till 1:00am. She has a super high fever right now but hopefully the Motrin will bring it down. Surprisingly I feel really awake for right now.

We are not going to the extended side of the in-law family for Thanksgiving since DD2 is sick. I am not upset. They be crazy.
So if you all have quick and easy Thanksgiving recipes that can be prepared the night before or morning of then please spam me.
1. We will be doing a ham because none of us like turkey.
2. We love rolls so any good roll recipes out there?
3. Any good deserts that involve pumpkin and/or cream cheese (besides a pumpkin roll or pumpkin pie?
I really am excited to just stay home, show DD1 the parade, read advertisements for Black Friday sales I won’t go to. I’m thinking a long afternoon nap too. I am liking Thanksgiving a whole lot more without a side of sexism, racism, or crazy.

My family loves it - we do half with chopped pecans on top. cookiesandcups.com/pumpkin-dump-cake/This green bean casserole recipe is easy and we do it day of. It’s a classic in our house: www.campbells.com/kitchen/recipes/classic-green-bean-casserole/We do a stuffing similar to this one - make day before. I love stuffing with apples in it, we always get the most positive feedback on our stuffing. Not too hard to make either: www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/food-network-kitchen/sage-sausage-and-apple-dressing-recipe-1941694

danvers big big hugs...hoping DD2's fever has gone down and it's nothing serious. I would also like my Thanksgiving without a side of crazy too. Ham sounds good. We may have ham next weekend if I can nab a hunk still on special next week. I never was a fan of turkey and neither is hubs but since I started brining my turkey and spatchcocking it, it's made a huge difference although hubs still prefers prime rib but DS wanted turkey so that's what we're having. I totally forgot about corn casserole as part of our menu. It's a new dish I added just a couple of years ago and it's a keeper! It's super easy too www.seriouseats.com/recipes/2016/11/corn-casserole-recipe.htmlThis cake looks easy and I am going to be making it this year...super excited. I think Taitai could be attempting it. Let's all make it and see if what we think of it www.finecooking.com/recipe/brown-butter-pumpkin-layer-cake

Turkey is brining and pie crusts are made. Tomorrow is going to be a busy with prepping, baking cake and roasting the backbone and making stock to be used in gravy and stuffing. We usually have our TG dinner on Friday when I was working FT. I would use the day of to prep for our meal. We're also going to having TG lunch instead of dinner so DS can enjoy the desserts in the afternoon so it's going to be a crazy busy morning on TG day. This is possible ever since I started spatchcocking my turkey and for a small bird (12lbs ) it only takes a little over an hour to roast. I am excited!
