Thanksgiving is my absolute favorite holiday! Things have changed a lot for us in the last few years and thanksgiving has become much smaller. This year (like last) it’ll just be us. I still make all the foods and try to put an interesting spin on some of the traditional dishes. I’m working on a menu now. I like to watch the parade in the morning with the kids and eat cinnamon rolls. The last few years I started decorating as soon as we got home from family dinner. I’ll do the same this year. I put on Christmas music for the first time of the season and start unloading big Tupperware containers. The next day is Christmas movies and music, leftovers, too much to drink, and more decorating. If I’m being really honest the day after thanksgiving is actually my very favorite day of the year. MH proposed on that day (that year it was the 25th) because he knew how much I love the dat. It makes me sad that Thanksgiving has changed for us. I liked the energy of too many people, too much food, too much to drink, too much drama— just the extra of it all. Sometimes it feels too quiet now. I’m hoping that as the kids get older, we start some traditions that will solidify, and it goes back to feeling like it used to. Right now it just feels like a special meal but not a special day.

This year will be different for us. We are going to Minnesota. My family has already told me that I am not to do anything. So I’ll be keeping LO from destroying my sisters house.

guster, that sounds magical! I love the day after Thanksgiving. Typically we send the kids to daycare and lounge around, drink, binge water TV and online shop. This year all the kids will be home though. Actual Thanksgiving we will go to SIL's (I think we are invited?). They're doing a citrus pineapple turkey, which I'm unsure about. We will also have sausage, stuffed cabbage, sweet potato casserole, ect. Then we will go to my aunts for turkey, ham, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, carrot casserole (my favorite), salad, stuffing, my grandma's applesauce, ect!

Thank you! Isn’t it so funny that you say it sounds magical and to me it just sounds boring because it’s not what I’m used to. I’m trying really hard to focus on loving what I have, but my mind always wanders to MORE!

I could get behind a citrus pineapple turkey. Probably not for Thanksgiving, but I could see how the confirmation might work on some cutlets, @wine.

We are ordering premade from the local grocery store with sides. It is just the 3 of us and I'm not in the mood to arrange travelling

They have a turkey breast thing that isn't the whole turkey and bones, green beans almandine, mashed potatoes and cranberry stuffing. Not sure if that will be the entire thing or if we will get more. I'll have canned cranberry of course

Thanksgiving is probably harder for me than Christmas without my Dad. Thanksgiving was our thing. This year Cadence and I will be going to my brother's house. He only has his daughter until 6, so we'll be doing lunch there with my Mom and my Grandfather. Idk what mh will be doing. He is either going to his sister's house or coming with us. His sister did dinner last year so we were able to go to my Mom's and his sister's, but she decided to change and do lunch this year, so Cadence and I will miss that. Oh well, sry not sry.

I haven't made them since my Dad passed. I guess I'm boycotting.
When Cadence is a little older I'll maybe start again, so that I can teach her.

I love most forms of cranberry sauce. Even the canned variety (not the gel one) can work in a pinch. Especially mixed with mayo for a next day turkey sandwich.

I'm hosting this year but haven't put a lot of thought into it. I'll do Turkey, stuffing , rolls. My parents are bringing mashed potatoes and cranberry sauce. My sister and her bf will bring something as well. L's bday is that day and he wants pizza so I'm trying to figure out how to incorporate that. He's a picky eater so he probably won't touch most of the thanksgiving food. Any creative ideas out there? Pizza casserole? Pizza apps?

We sort of declared we would always have Thanksgiving the year S was born, so he could always be home for his birthday (he's the 25th). MH family refuses to come (long story, that I am still annoyed at) but usually come on Black Friday for the weekend. This year they are not coming at all, which is fine.
Some years it's just us and my parents. This year we have 3 other family members coming to town and possibly my BFF and her family.
So total either 7 adults and 2 kids or 10 adults and 4 kids

I love thanksgiving! Usually it’s just us, but my parents are here now so we’ll have a slightly bigger group. I’m going to make a turkey, sweet potatoes, stuffing (I love stuffing!!), cream corn, and cranberry sauce. I put my mom in charge of dessert. We also put our appetizers all day and just eat and drink our way through the day, lol. For apps dh will probably make potstickers, well do a cheese and meat board, a veggie tray and deviled eggs.
I also love the day after thanksgiving. Dh always works, because he’s management and he usually takes the whole week of Christmas off. I’ve made it a tradition to put on Christmas movies, drink eggnog and decorated and eat leftovers in my sweats all day. Sometimes I pop out in the afternoon to target and michaels to check out Black Friday deals after the rush has calmed down.

Sadly it is my in laws year. We switch every other year. My MIL is the worst cook in the world. Her sister's family is coming though so hopefully they will bring something edible. Otherwise I will be eating the green bean casserole that I bring.
My mom is making a turkey the day after though for leftovers and she will do some sides as well so she is making us to go boxes.

guster, I agree with wine that your thanksgiving sounds perfect! I would love that so much, it sounds very relaxing and happy. I love thanksgiving, but also don’t have to do a darn thing. We go to my parents for the day and then to the ILs Saturday and have all the traditional food at both places, although MILs food is pretty Bland.

We will be waking up at our new house and hopefully trying to get settled! My dad/sm are hosting an early dinner and I think I said I'd bring gluten free stuffing from trader Joe's.
I hope we are able to enjoy and won't be too chaotic. I miss thanksgivings where we used to all go to my aunt's house in NJ. With 2 Thanksgiving kids and now a move, it's been all over the place.
