I think waking up in your new house on Thanksgiving is perfect. I hope y’all do something to commemorate your first holiday in your new digs.

Sadly it is my in laws year. We switch every other year. My MIL is the worst cook in the world. Her sister's family is coming though so hopefully they will bring something edible. Otherwise I will be eating the green bean casserole that I bring.
My mom is making a turkey the day after though for leftovers and she will do some sides as well so she is making us to go boxes. Turkey (which is my least favorite part of the meal) from a bad cook would make me nervous!

I work on thanksgiving this year, but now that I’m off work at 2 I’ll actually be able to spend time with family. We are going to DH’s aunt and uncle’s house. I haven’t heard yet what I am supposed to bring. The following Saturday afternoon we will be having thanksgiving with my side of the family at my sister’s house. I’m bringing a pumpkin pie and some sort of veggie side dish. I’m thinking corn possibly, but I haven’t decided yet.
I normally wait to decorate for Christmas on Black Friday but I’m thinking I might do it this Sunday instead. I haven’t decided yet.

We had a chicken casserole thing at her house over the summer and it was legit still frozen/raw in the center. I do not eat meat there.

I love Thanksgiving too, guster , it's my favorite of all the biggies. I have a fairly large extended family so our T'giving meals are usually pretty big. The past few years, we have invited my sister's ILs and her SIL/BIL to join us, so it's gotten even larger. We always start the day with bloody mary's and mimosas and sometimes a walk while the turkey is cooking. Lots of chatting, TV with football on, the ladies always do the clean-up and usually break out in some show tunes (esp. when the wine is flowing). My sister and I always set the table--pull out the leaves, polish the silver, arrange flowers, etc. Dad has music going--usually Frankie Valli and Steely Dan, lol. Typical menu: Turkey and dressing, gravy Sweet potato casserole with brown sugar/pecan topping--no marshmallows! Corn pudding Green beans Broccoli salad Rolls (must be Sister Schubert) and cranberry sauce My mom usually does a pumpkin cheesecake and then we'll have a mix of pies. We rarely shop on Black Friday -- or if we do, we go late in the day -- and then the weekend is dedicated to leftovers and watching football (if our game is at home, we'll go). My birthday sometimes falls around T'giving, so that might get thrown into the mix as well.

flamingo, I love picturing you and all the women in your family singing as you clean up. I bet the kids love it, too! I’ve never been one to shop on Black Friday. I always feel badly that so many of the retail workers are missing out on family and friends time.

guster yes, having worked in the retail world for a few years (even though my particular business was not really affected by "Black Friday") I always hated having to work the day after holidays. Much preferred being in the corporate world so I could take off the whole week/weekend. Typing out that whole post made me a bit sad, b/c we are going to my ILs' for T'giving this year. This is the first time in 9 years together, so I've had a good run, ha, but holidays there are just very different from what I'm used to. Very quiet, not as festive? for lack of a better word. I think we're going to the Biltmore on the day after since it will be decorated for Christmas, so that part should be fun.

I understand this too well, and it’s frustrating, especially for a holiday you love.

If anybody is looking for an sweet make-ahead breakfast, this will totally fit the bill. I made it for Josie‘s birthday brunch, and it was gone within minutes. I assembled it and baked it the night before, and then just warmed it up in the oven before I wanted to serve it. Crescent rolls, cream cheese and apple pie filling. Super easy! I am going to make it for Thanksgiving breakfast but with gluten-free waffles so mh can share in the indulgence. recipesforourdailybread.com/apple-cream-cheese-danish/

I love the big, noisy lots of people Thanksgivings that both guster and flamingo described. My family is loud, dramatic...they drink too much, and eat all the things and then ooh and ahh over how delicious everything is. Then the aunties talk shit about each other and who is feuding with who and there is always some kind of scandal going on. Then a million desserts and more drinks. I love it. This year we are going to my in-laws, where one person is gluten free, another is dairy free, and I think someone just went no carb. It will be the blandest meal I eat all year, and there will be lots if uncomfortable silences. Although this year, a silent feud between my MIL and my SIL might actually erupt, so I'm getting my popcorn ready 😀 To be fair though, the ILs are sweet and involved with the kids and strive hard to make everyone feel welcome, so I can't complain too much. Just might have to sneak some hot sauce, butter and seasoning salt in my bag.

I Just might have to sneak some hot sauce, butter and seasoning salt in my bag. This! I volunteered to bring multiple side dishes so at least a couple things will be decent! I am also bringing breakfast stuff (coffee cake, muffins, etc) because I have never seen any breakfast foods in their home 😳
