Does anyone else feel weird about sharing names with family? I'm always determined to keep it to ourselves and then I give in because guilt. And then I get opinions I didn't want or ask for. I know they mean well, but keep it to your damn self. I'm a little salty because it got brought up at my son's birthday party and one of my SILs had to give me her two cents on the name I really love. My other SIL told me she hated the name we wound up picking for DD because she hated a lady she worked with that had the name. She spells it wrong all the time claims she can't remember how to spell it. Sure Jan. PDQ...It's Rosalind. Not weird or hard to spell at all. She's just kind of an asshole in general. I shouldn't take it so personally I guess. We just don't share until the name is decided. So it's less of a discussion and more of a "we are naming the baby xyz." So for the most part people keep their opinions to themselves at that point. We decided to name this baby Russell and so far most people seem to like it...or at least that's what they tell me, lol.

We've always waited to see the baby before picking the name. So I guess that's where we're going wrong lol. I just need to grow a backbone really.

But I was like what if they come out and we're like, this name does not fit!! We need a back up! Lol

@frank we do the same thing, no one knows until baby is here. Oh for us people know before the baby comes, they just donโt know what weโre considering until we actually make a final choice. Less opinions that way.

We don't share our name with anyone other than family and close friends until after birth. We have no idea what we want to name this baby and we might wait until birth to name baby. I'm having a lot of trouble connecting to this baby and that might be part of it

We didn't name DD until she was a full month old. This time we already have a name picked. My mom pestered me until I told her...and then made a comment that made it obvious she did not like it. We aren't telling anyone else. Both names are family names and we are happy with it. So this DD will be Ni.kola A.va.

We tend to stay steadfast in our names, so I say we're going back and forth on a boy's name but we'll probably never change it ๐ I think our names are Margaret Clare or Callum Christopher.

peachesncream: I know this was an older Q but I just saw it. BFF's DD wanted to name DD#2 Jewellery. friendofdobby: DD's MN is Alexandra, it's one of my favourites but the varieties of it are very popular and we have an EXTREMELY common LN so it was out of the running for FN. I love Louise and I love using family names for MNs!

PDQ names Right now we are arguing Aurelia v.s. Celia. DH took Celia off my list but my discomfort with the e-lia sound made me take it off (hemophilia, pedophilia, I also almost said celiac yesterday lol). I thought he'd willingly switch but no, he likes the sound e-lia better that el-ya! So maybe I'll have to dig deep into my list again to change his mind. Stubborn man!! Boys names... DH has decided on Elias. I haven't argued with him because he hates all the names I suggest. I don't hate Elias... I just don't really like it THAT much. Also my boys list is pathetic, so until I have something I can argue for sufficiently, I'm unwilling to go into battle.

Kore I love Aurelia but I don't make the hemophilia connection so if that's bugging you pick something else

beenthere Aurelia is the one I like, it happens with Celia haha! I suggested Dahlia today but DH was "working" and apparently didn't want to text me.

Well we won't get to use our girl name, boy names are so hard! I'm not a big fan of many of them with our last name and picking a third one is going to be tough.

DS wants to name the baby his exact name. He keeps saying, name the baby Reed (Last name). His other suggestions were Bumblebee or Optimus Prime. ๐

I'm going to keep reviving this thread because otherwise I'm going to think about starting one every week haha!
*PDQ names* So last night DH and I tentatively decided on *poof* for a boy. Does it flow weird? Our last name is one syllable, three letters so it's all very short.
For girls we have two separate lists that are basically different styles. DH is getting frustrated because he'll say he likes a name on my list then I'll say I'm not sure... Because it's so hard naming an actual child that! So names we've sort of overlapped on but I won't commit to: Celia, Bianca, Virginia (nn Gigi, DH dislikes Ginny), & Mavis. Mavis was our #2 name for DD but I've kind of fallen out of love with it, especially with Maeve trending upwards.
