beenthere DD1 is Adeline NN Addie. Her middle name is Rose but I kind of regret it for popularity reasons (I think Grace and Rose are the most popular MNs statistically). I actually always call her Addie Lou, so maybe Louise or some variation would have been better 🤣 I think single syllable is probably best so here are some ideas: Bea Beth Jane Jo Sue

beenthere: We use family names as middle names. Is there anywhere in the family tree to get inspiration?

blackcat none of my kids have two middle names but I did until I got married! It was a kind of fun and unique thing, I didn't mind it. I have a friend who gave her daughter two middle names and they wouldn't fit on the birth certificate, so they got cut off and the second one happened to be shortened into an obscenity 😂 shouldn't be a problem with the two you are considering though!

blackcat I have 2 middle names. So do all my siblings. Growing up I thought everyone had 2 middle names so my vote is go with both middle names. Also you may not love the name Norma now but once it's attached to your daughter you may find it grows on you:)

SO and I already had a first name picked so it was just MN we needed and luckily we agreed on one last night. DD wasn't named until a full month after she was born so I love that this little girl already has a name that we can start to use:) As long as SO doesn't second guess himself and try to change it at the last minute:/ I told him last night the name is set. No changesies!

🤣🤣 then ignore my terrible suggestions!! P.s. I started making combinations in a halfhearted attempt to guess your name but I didn't get past Sue Bea at which point I started singing the Scooby Doo theme song. :-P

Aww what did I miss? Did you pick? DH suggested my MN for this kid and I firmly responded "No." ETA: I'm not a big fan of Ann/e. It is a very common MN as well.

beenthere my personal preference is to stay away from the traditional filler middle names. I swear, every other kid has the middle name Grace or Marie these days. Do something unique and exciting. My older sister has the middle name Anne and it seems so plain Jane, I got Nicole and my other sister had Michelle. No reason for our names aside from parents liked them, I liked not having Elizabeth or Anne like 99% of my friends. Ignore if the traditional middle names have special meaning to you, my boys have Michael and John after family and I feel like we would choose something much more unique if we had more.

We always use family names for first and middle names. DD is named for FIL and my maternal grandmother and this LO will be named for SO's uncle and my paternal grandmother. SO said he thinks they will both end up liking their middle names better than their first names because their middle names are softer and their first names are stronger but I like their first names. And with DD's personality I don't think she could pull off a soft sounding name.

Do any of you with older kids have funny name ideas from them? My 4 year old asked me this morning if we could name the baby Isla Ice Cream and my 2 year old suggested Luna or Cadence haha!

We’ve had a girl name picked out since DS1 was born, with two boys figuring out another boy name will be hard.... each of our kids only has one middle name. DH has two but honestly they are both terrible. If this kiddo is a girl her name will probably be Lorelei Elise nn Ellie (mostly because I don’t like the nn Lor or Lori). I love the name Gwendolyn too (my grandmothers name but unfortunately DH isn’t a big fan).

Can we revive this thread now that many of us know the sex or are finding out very soon? I looooove talking names.
Currently our front runner is Alexandra Louise. NN Alex. We also have Juliet, Lucy, and Elizabeth in the mix. Same middle name. Louise is a family name on both sides.

I don't love the flow of Lucy Louise, but it's also not like...the worst, either. I fought HARD for a long time for DD (Caroline) to be Elizabeth, nn Libby. Obviously I lost but I really love that name. I could name 1,000 girls, girl names are just so beautiful to me.

Boy names are so hard for us. I love Levi which was in our top two for DS. I still want to use it. H is not convinced. MN will most likely be Thomas. I also really like Theodore (nn Theo). That's all I've got so far. I generally like uncommon names. Nothing too trendy or made up sounding.

Thank you, and I totally agree on girl names being so fun and beautiful to pick from @frank. And Caroline is a beautiful name. elodin boy names were tough for us too! Also tough with my XH and we ended up having a boy (Reed). I really like Levi.

Does anyone else feel weird about sharing names with family? I'm always determined to keep it to ourselves and then I give in because guilt. And then I get opinions I didn't want or ask for. I know they mean well, but keep it to your damn self. I'm a little salty because it got brought up at my son's birthday party and one of my SILs had to give me her two cents on the name I really love.
My other SIL told me she hated the name we wound up picking for DD because she hated a lady she worked with that had the name. She spells it wrong all the time claims she can't remember how to spell it. Sure Jan. PDQ...It's Rosalind. Not weird or hard to spell at all. She's just kind of an asshole in general. I shouldn't take it so personally I guess.

elodin We never share names with family. We told our daughters DD3's name so they could bond with her in utero so that one leaked to our family in advance but since we are team green this time we are tight-lipped again. Massive eyeroll to your SIL, I love that name. Maybe it's a confession but I did try to have an intervention with my SIL about her kid's name. It is Dakota, which I think is a beautiful name, but she spelled it with a d instead of a t 😬 my SIL and BIL both have unusual spellings of their names, as do I, so I make a joke about not wanting to saddle her with the same burden, but I was unsuccessful. I probably should have just kept my mouth shut.

I am not great at keeping secrets so we will probably share the name we choose. But not before we fully decide. Unwanted opinions are super annoying though.
