Every year H and I go for an overnight trip somewhere thanksgiving day and then spend Black Friday doing the long and laborious rounds seeing family. We get home early afternoon on Saturday and then I make our own quiet thanksgiving meal for just us on Sunday.
This year (same as last) we’re going to Hershey Park because it’s about 45 minutes from my Nana’s, Black Friday stop #1, and they have amazing thanksgiving/Christmas activities at the hotel and within the park. They have a great Santa and real reindeer on display in a barn.
Black Friday sucks. It’s both not enough and yet too much time with family. My mom is coming for Christmas this year but no one else will drive to us so we exchange all Christmas presents then. I really need to get that wrapped up. Most years H’s step mom and dad will make plans over ours with her daughter and family and I wouldn’t mind if they did so again this year. 🤷🏼♀️

We don't host Thanksgiving, but we attend two. Neither have very exciting spreads.
Thanksgiving Day (also MH's birthday this year) is with my ILs. They'll have all the traditional stuff - turkey, stuffing, green bean casserole, mashed potatoes, etc. I will be making smores bread pudding for dessert. Not holiday in the slightest but it is what MH requested for his birthday.
Friday we go to my parents house. We will have all of the above plus more because my family has never heard the word moderation before. Probably some type of pasta salad and whatever side dishes my parents decide last minute to make. I'll be making pumpkin pie from a real pumpkin and also with a cute leaf crust, because I live for this shit.

We host every year. It’s my H’s favorite holiday and sometimes it lands on his birthday so he loves having everyone come here. My dad always comes and my mom is either with us or down in GA visiting her family. And my H’s dad is every other year. This year, it’s just us and my dad so super small and super casual. I’m so excited.
We are brining the turkey for the first year ever and I’m excited to see how it comes out!
Turkey Stuffing Mashed potatoes Broccoli cheese casserole Cranberry sauce Acorn squash (in the crockpot) Rolls Gravy Pumpkin pie Apple pie
And LOTS of booze.

Sunday thanksgiving menu
HoneyBaked ham and roasted turkey Mashed potatoes and gravy Some sort of green bean Some sort of sweet potato Cranberry sauce Stuffing** Something with Brussel sprouts Corn A magical GF/DF/either egg free or baked longer than 30 minutes dessert (lol) Whatever else I think of, steal from y’all
**this is our first thanksgiving with H being GF. I found a GF stuffing made by Aleia’s. Do any of you know if it’s decent? Or have another suggestion? It’s one of H’s favorite foods so I would like to have it for him.

I plan on making so much damn food that I won’t know what to do with myself. I love food always, but thanksgiving food is my religion.

So in Newfounfland we do Jiggs Dinner for basically everything, and just add Turkey for the big occasions. So we had Turkey, dressing, gravey, cranberry, salt beef, carrots, potato, turnip, cabbage, peas pudding, and raisin pudding. Desert was apple pie, punpkin pie, and chocolate truffles.

Is this where I admit that Thanksgiving traditional food just isn't that exciting for me? LIke, I love me some mashed potatoes, but I can have that whenever. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

We were supposed to go to my SIL's house this year but their kitchen remodel won't be finished, so it will probably be at my in laws' house again. Which I prefer, by the way. My kids love it there and have plenty of toys to keep them busy.
I guess we could host but....I really don't want to.

My plate usually just has turkey, gravy and a roll. I don't love mashed potatoes but I'll eat them if they're smothered in gravy.

It's a shit load of work and I'll eat a bite of it. Not a huge fan of stuffing either.

I remember my first Thanksgiving with MH's family when we just started dating. My MIL made jello shots and there was a magnum size bottle of wine. They had recently purchased Guitar Hero so everyone was taking turns playing.
My in laws are the best.

The family is split on what's better. I hate the mushy shit that comes out of the turkey but the other one is crispy and yummy.

No no no no. You are all mistaken.
Stuffing is amazing. And so are mashed potatoes. And so are thanksgiving leftovers for like 4 days afterwards.

sophiegrace I am looking through a magazine and there’s a recipe for 5-grain wild rice and mushroom “stuffing”. It’s not anywhere near traditional stuffing but it seems to be GF.

It's just the three of us, so it'll be pretty low key. Turkey w/stuffing and gf gravy ( sophiegrace - if you aren't opposed to store bought Trader Joe's has a great gluten free gravy, most pre-made gravy will have added flour/modified food starch). Brussels sprouts with bacon Creamed spinach Potato fennel gratin Cranberry sauce Pecan pie for dessert
