Corn casserole (new addition) Brussel sprouts w bacon (optional) Drunkin cranberries (fresh cranberries cooked with sugar and jack daniels) Stuffing Rolls Pumpkin Banana Pie (I make every year) Other dessert brought by in laws ....Yum!

Shit. Didn’t even think about the gravy elle !!! Thank you! It looks like Amazon has it in case you don't have a Trader Joe's near you. Always check the label of course, just to make sure they didn't change their ingredients, but we have already bought some this season for onion gravy to go with bangers and mash and it's still thickened with potato flour and tapioca starch, both of which are gf.

So much thanksgiving food hate in here! You people are broken! Where’s the spirit?!
Thanksgiving is at my parents this year, so my mom will cook the traditional spread, but assigned each of us a “dish to pass” <—- this was her actual text to me and my sisters. I’m in charge of stuffing which is fine by me because it’s my absolute favorite!
My favorite thing to do during dinner is take a dinner roll, tiny bit of butter on it, then layer with mashed potatoes, gravy, turkey, gravy, stuffing, a dollop of sweet potatoes and a dollop of cranberry sauce. Eat as an open face sandwich. Of course you eat this at thanksgiving dinner and the next 4-5 meals that follow. Voila!

Has anyone made mashed potatoes in the crock pot before? Have not. My mom has like four things she’s good at making: cheesecake (I guarantee hers is the best you’ll ever eat), potato salad, mashed potatoes, and pork with pepper and onions. Therefore I defer to her on handling the mashed potatoes. I am going to try making her cheesecake though. She is so disorganized and last minute and if I leave it to her there’s no guarantee it’ll be done.

It’s one of my favorite things so I don’t want to mess it up. I’ve heard they’re easy in the crockpot, but I checked Pinterest and there are of course a million different recipes.

Do you guys make fancy mashed potatoes? We literally just boil potatoes, mash, throw in a bunch of butter, mash, pour some milk, stir/mash. Done. Yummy.

Zero fanciness, that’s really just how little confidence I have in myself and my cooking skills. It’s more about the type of potatoes you use that will determine the fluffiness Google says: ‘Choose higher starch potatoes (like Russets or Yukon golds) for the fluffiest, smoothest, and most flavor-packed mash. Waxy potatoes (such as red or white varieties) require more mashing to become creamy, which could lead to the dreaded "potato paste’

Two years ago I made them with red potatoes (all we had) and “potato paste” is exactly how I would have described it. Disgusting. Last year, they were fine. I had russets. So then I had a weird complex about wtf I did wrong and didn’t want to do it again so here we are. Me asking how to boil potatoes. Just picked up russets tonight so please oh please oh please let it be as simple as this and have them turn out like the mashed potatoes I’ve been dreaming of!!

I hope so because I’m cooking the whole meal! I’m not sure what my problem is, I used to thoroughly enjoy cooking and got pretty decent at it. Over the past five years I’ve gotten to this point and have no desire when it actually comes time to prep and cook. It definitely peaked right after Mia was born and I had to cut the dairy and soy out of my diet. I questioned everything we and didn’t have the time to put a ton of effort to making anything since I had to hold her 24/7. Now everything is overcooked and under flavored. Hopefully I get over it one day soon.

sophiegrace I know!! I just found out within the last couple years as well. It’s one of those things that my Mom is all ‘ I just know that, dont you know that?’....kinda like her borscht that she had to make and write the recipe down as she was going because ‘a bit of this’ and ‘a little of that’ is not how I’ll learn when I’m first making something new. Now, a few years later I know it and can adjust but I want it to taste like hers first time.
