This is weird, because I was literally JUST coming to ask a question about this! Ha. I really want to do a navy paint, but I'm so afraid it will make the room too dark. It's not a large room, and only one window (facing west). The walls slant in about 2/3rds up too (kind of like the 1st picture). I'm debating 1-2 navy walls and a grey or something else on the others, but I can't commit yet. It's a loose-airplane theme, I have an old airplane mobile I'll hang in the corner and plan on getting simple sheets/changing pad covers to accent. I love the navy inspiration pic, and the greenish color in the last picture (no murals or designs on the walls, though).

I didn't really ask my question 🤦♀️
Has anyone done navy paint in a smaller room before?

I’m liking these two a lot, I think I’ll order a few wallpaper samples this week to see in person before I decide

Our future nursery has neutral grey walls. I don’t think we’ll paint, and all the furniture is white. I want to add color by doing a loose rainbow theme. I have dreams of framed baby animal water color prints somehow.
My biggest issue now is whether to buy a new, expensive glider. My 3yr old DD is super attached to it, so I’m not sure if I could somehow move it to the baby room without upsetting her. I spent so many hours rocking in that thing, I just love how comfortable it is.

pambee Could you do thick navy stripes along the bottom part of the walls? I think with the slanted walls and one window, all navy might make it dark.

We’re also planning on Navy and grey with a light planes/ trains/ automobiles theme 😍💙 we’re doing more patterns and then peppering in the transportation. Sprinkling in some pops of red, too, I think. We just looked at paint samples this weekend, but the room is only like 10x10 so only one wall will be Navy.

I've just done stripes before and wanted to die in the process 😂 I'm not patient enough for painting a pain wall, let alone getting fancy. So it's an option, I would just have to really get on board with it haha.

lemondrop that's awesome! Feel free to share your paint choices 😂 MH hates me when we pick out paint because I'm so indecisive. But it always looks so different on the walls!!

My H really really loves BM Hale Navy. I'm leaning towards something a bit more muted, like BM Kensington Blue. We've also considered doing some sort of stripe. The room gets a good bit of light, the other 3 walls will be (most likely) BM Pebble Beach and all trim is white. We did get him an espresso crib and his dresser/changing table will match like your first inspiration pic. But, then I get all twitchy because the blue of the wall won't "match" his bedding. Because my infant will totally care about that.

pambee Our nursery room is almost identical in shape to the pic you posted and what you described. I think having all of the walls navy would be too dark, but I might paint the two non-slanted walls (the one with the window and the one on the opposite side of the room) navy. You could pick a grey or tan or some other color to paint the slanted walls.

lemondrop hale navy is my favourite, I was going to suggest it! Someday I’d love to use it in a powder room or something. (I’m very not-bold with Wall colours, our entire house is in Sherwin Williams “Extra White,” no exaggeration).

So now that you know I’m fun and flashy (lol) , I’m working on a totally neutral nursery. Mostly inspired by using what we already own: The room is white with cedar trim and a big cedar beam in the ceiling. There are also some floor to ceiling plank shelves on one wall, but MH is taking them down tomorrow save for the top two levels which we will try leaving up to see if they’ll be a nice spot for plants and decorations. I’m possibly buying this dresser off Craigslist to use as a change table/extra storage. Buying a black piece of furniture is very wild for me (white always) but I wouldn’t paint it. Idk if I can pull the trigger!

We’ve also discussed using Hale Navy in our powder room 😆 And we really should, the vanity is pure crisp white and there’s a good sized window for light. Unfortunately I’m the painter in the family, but the ceilings on our first floor are all 12 feet high, and I’m not about to climb a ladder these days lol. The rest of our house is Sherwin Williams Agreeable Gray, which is a great neutral but so, so boring.

The light tone of the legs of the chair don’t really bother me, either. But, I like the eclectic look of mismatchy furniture and I think everything else you have tones the black down for the look you’re going for. Plus, add a colorful or pale colored pad to the top or new bright colored handles and voila!

pambee Lurker here from Jan/Feb, hope that's ok! (My due date is 2/28 or 3/1 depending on which dr you ask, so I feel entitled lol...). We painted our small (10x12?) "master" bedroom with three deep navy walls, one pale gray wall (behind the bed, so when you look in the room from the hall it feels bright but when you're in bed you get the cozy dark feeling), and the navy wall across from the bed has a bunch of mirrors hanging on it which reflect the pale gray wall and light from the window. If anything, it has turned out looking brighter in there than I was expecting. We also have all dark furniture (ikea black/brown dressers and desk). I think it works out! Also, looking at the picture with a similar layout to your nursery, it reminds me of my brother's bedroom growing up...if the low walls and window wall are painted dark navy (his were a medium blue), I think if anything it will seem to recede and feel more spacious. The window wall in particular is safe to paint dark, I think. We must be color taste twins because that aqua-esque color you like is almost exactly our living room accent wall color and we aaalmost decided to paint the nursery ceiling with it! Using it on the slanted walls or ceiling in that kind of room would be really bold and I can't picture if it would work or not?

sunshiney thanks! I might just get to the point where I buy the paint and start painting, and stop when it starts to look too dark, haha. But thats helpful to know/think about where the window and lighter walls would be and how it would make a difference!

Yeah we had to get over mixing and matching wood tones in our home real fast with all the natural wood trim everywhere, mixing wood tones doesn’t bother me at all now since I keep everything in the neutral fam. I’m debating the colour pop idea with things like a throw pillow and drawer knobs like you mentioned, but I may stick totally neutral for this one. My girls’ room and our play room have colour popping out the wazoo!

We won't be doing a nursery, just co sleeper next to my bed and then a mini crib in my room. When he is maybe 2 he can join his sister's room.

Yogurt, did you use the mini crib with your first? We're debating getting some for the twins. I saw some that turn into a head and foot board for a twin bed later on. Our space is at a premium - we have an old house, 3 bedrooms with one bonus room that you have to walk through to get to DD's room. We are thinking of putting twins in the bonus room eventually, but I think they'll be in our room at first. Once they're bigger, it will just be like a big kids dorm in there.

I have no idea how to post pictures. Im on mobile.
But I either want to do a light grey, soft pink, floral themed nursery or a soft mint, soft pink floral one. Haha I guess I could get wild and mix it all together.
I also have a few signs on Pinterest pinned. I defiantly want a “in a field of roses, she is a wildflower” and then one with the popular quote from hillary’s concession speech.
We’ll be using the crib we’ve had from the boys. It’s like a cherry wood. And then the dresser we have is white and I also use it for a changing table. I plan on getting floral knobs for it.

And it was plenty big. She was able to fling herself out of it before 2 so we switched to a bed, but she would probably still have plenty of room at 3 years old. I have no idea what to do with the nursery. He will be getting his sister's crib after we set up her new bed. The crib is dark wood. I think I want the walls to be blue, but I need to start looking for more inspiration.
I had a theme in mind for DD way earlier than this, so I'm def slacking.

Poor third kid will be getting almost nothing new. Maybe a dresser maybe. I am not sure what room will even be the babies at this point. My two older kids will be rooming together since they sleep through the night. Also, not to be a super debbie downer but I feel like decorating the nursery is for me as they baby will care little about the decor and I dont really have interest in redecorating for a baby. I may be broken. I do think everyones plans are very cute. And maybe I will do some painting for the older kids room if I get them new beds.

I did nothing but add a crib to the guest room for kid 2, but since I have an empty room to fill this time and it’s my first boy, I’m feeling a bit more into it. But my nurseries are always on the “mature” side because like you I’m not going to be updating a room every couple years, just personal preference. My good friend redoes her kids rooms almost yearly according to their interests/her tastes and they frigging adorable.
