It’s November and I’m extremely excited for Thanksgiving and Loy Krathong (a local holiday) later this month. Today I need to take down the Halloween decorations and put out some Thanksgiving stuff.
What’s going on with everyone? Recovering from Halloween candy ODs?

I’m taking my friend who is visiting out to dinner tonight- just us two. I think that will help get rid of some tension and just let us both relax/have some fun together.
The house guest situation...it’s getting better. I’m pretty sure their kid has croup, his cough is getting worse. LO woke up with a runny nose, so I’m thinking he’s caught whatever their kid had. DS1 is holding strong, but did seem a bit stuffy this morning.
Fortunately, we’ve enforced boundaries with their kid and he’s no longer climbing the curtains or messing with expensive stuff- so that’s great! He is now eating all snacks and meals at the table. 👍 He also slept from 8pm - 5:30am last night!!! Wohoo!!! 🙌 🙌. My friend is going to do 8pm bedtime from now on and see if we can get him to sleep until 6:30 or 7am.
Hoping my friend and I have fun tonight - fingers crossed!! 🤞

Taitai, that's great that things are improving with your house guests. My jaw seriously dropped reading about them. I try to be all respectful parenting and let my kid be himself, but we definitely have boundaries and none of that would fly ever. So crazy.

DS1 is sleeping over at IL's house tonight. It feels so weird knowing his room is empty and that he won't be here in the morning. When he gets home tomorrow, it will have been almost 24 hours apart, which is the longest I've been away from him in his life. We've only done a handful of sleepovers ever. 1 with SIL when we lived nearby to see how he would do, 1 with my dad for our 5th wedding anniversary, and at home with my mom when we were in the hospital after having DS2. Also, I have to go to his preschool tomorrow even without him because the teacher is sick and I'm filling in for her.

Right as I was trying to fall asleep I saw a text from our realtor saying someone would like to come and preview the house tomorrow. I don't know how I missed it earlier. I couldn't fall asleep then and started cleaning and packing stuff away. We haven't taken pics yet, so I'm assuming it'll just be another agent? I need to ask in the morning who it'll be since that determines how much I continue to stow away.

trinitrotoluene Yeah - my jaw was repeatedly dropping in the beginning of their stay too! I think they came to the realization that operating on their norms was not going to fly at our house. He is doing so much better in terms of behavior, and he really is a sweetheart. Too bad all the kids are now sick, but that’s more just kind of how it is with little kids. cougarette I hope the house showing (whatever it is for) goes well tomorrow!

Omg Taitai I didn't read the back story but those house guests sound....eesh. Glad they're...I don't know, NOT tearing your house apart? Yikes. cougarette could the agent be bringing clients though??!! What a stressful thing to read right before bed! Good luck!

today is dragging! i think i need more coffee. Ditto. It took an hour and 15 minutes to make the 22 minute drive to work this morning 😭 It snowed last night and has been hovering around freezing so the roads were a bit icy but traffic was so insane. Apparently there were 50+ accidents this morning. I am dreading driving home

I really did not take full advantage of this work trip... I should have booked an extra night and went to hang out with my friends but alas I’m waiting in an airport bar with red wine for the red eye to get home first thing. Everyone survived just fine without me, DH has been a bit stressed since the IL’s have not been nearly as helpful as he thought.DD1 was a bit confused and thought I had moved away so she was mad at me for a few days. She was happy today because I FaceTimed her before bed while I was at the airport so she could see the planes and that I was coming home.
I love this part of the country and am sad to have to go home, if DH could find work it here I would move in a hot second.

Why was I today years old when I learned that Robin Thicke is Alan Thicke's son? Didn’t know he had a kid 😬😅. I also can’t remember which family sitcom he was in 🤔 it’s not family ties.its the other one or I could be completely wrong and do not even know who these people are 🤣

Banff is close to my IL’s and I’ve only been once but it’s nice. I prefer the Vancouver, Whistler area personally but Banff and Lake Louise are beautiful too.

My sister went to Vancouver on her honeymoon and loved it. Plus all the delicious Asian food. Hopefully we can make a western Canada trip happen one summer when the boys are school aged 🤞

Taitai I hope you had a great time catching up with your friend. So glad to hear the kid got some well deserved rest. Bummer about the kids being sick but what to do...it’s inevitable. It’s a hard subject to broach no matter how close you are. I wonder if you approach it in such a way and offer up solutions for her to see it would benefit her son in which you care that she wouldn’t be so defensive. Like you said it appears this isn’t the first time she’s had chats about it so instead of feeling criticized, by offering her solutions she may be more willing to see your POV. Hoping they are able to take pointers and notes from your parenting skills for their sons sake. No doubt my kid would be an impossible crank monster too if he lacked proper rest and sleep. Hopefully things improve from here on out and their visit will be enjoyable.

Taitai the Canadian Rockies are stunning. I love Vancouver too and came close to moving there in another life. I spent so so many hours hanging out at ubc’s anthropology museum - love all the First Nations art and Roy Henry vickers. I haven’t been there in a decade and certain much has changed. I had planned to go there last Spring but baby happened and Dr advised no travels due to geriatric mom 😮 which turned out lucky cos y’all knew I couldn’t go anywhere soon after. Yasss!! All the best Cantonese food! I ate the best dim sums when I visited my sister frequently when she was at grad school. I do need to go back there to visit my relatives.

Hopefully things improve from here on out and their visit will be enjoyable. Our mommy date last night went really well! It was good to just chat and catch up, without being stressed by our kids screaming for attention. Her kid slept from 8pm - 5:45am last night. Progress! I’m hoping for an 8-6 sleep tonight - I think he can do it! I was kind of in friendship repair mode during our time out, so we didn’t really talk about parenting. I think she’s kind of a person to do things her way, and she’s humoring us by being more on top of her kid, making him take meals/snacks at the table, putting him to bed at a decent time, etc — only because she is staying with us. I am 99% sure things will go back to how they were once they leave. They’re staying until Monday, and then moving on to a town about 3 hours drive away. Maybe we’ll go down there to visit them for Thanksgiving weekend (we’ll get a hotel room though). I want to take advantage of her time out here and not let parenting differences affect our friendship too much -YKWIM? I still am concerned about some things though - like, her kid drinks sooo much milk and hardly eats any solids. He’s had a liter (yes -a liter) of milk so far today. He’s only been up for 5 hours. She said he could easily drink a gallon of milk a day if they let him. But I’m going to mind my own business on that one. 🤷♀️

Taitai,Totally get it and MYOB. Well I read somewhere that too much milk actually isn’t good - it inhibits iron absorption thus causing iron deficiency. Now I’m actually concerned for the kid 😟

So I weighted DS' Halloween candy stash and it's over half a kilo We'll be rationing them out one by one. He's only had a pack of M&Ms so far but it's the weekend and we'll cut him a little slack however he'll be earning them so we'll see how well he'll behave and listen this weekend. Speaking of weekends what's everyone up to? I am finally feeling better and not hacking out a lung. I think we have tentative plans for a playdate for DS and a trip to the library. I am trying my hardest to rest and get well so I can do some yard work - my poor plants are in dire need of TLC. Other than that after the last few action packed weekends, we could use some staying home and doing nothing.

We STILL had lunch-bag size of candy leftover from Halloween 2017. Now it’s like - omg, what are we going to do with all this stuff! The snickers will be gone by Thanksgiving, but the rest will probably wallow in the treat basket we have. Maybe I should just give it all to our nanny’s daughter. She can share with her friends. 🤷♀️

Happy November! I’m early for my hair appointment so I’m hanging in my car for a few. I think I may stop off for a mani pedi after this and just prolong returning home. I also have to get some warmer clothes for a work trip to OH this coming week. The forecast looks like temps I don’t usually see. 😬☃️

Weekend is okay over here. LO and my friend’s kid are sick and snotty, but no fevers thankfully and they are acting like their normal selves aside from coughing and runny noses 😩😂 DS1 has a little bit of a stuffy nose, but is pretty much symptom free aside from that. 👍
DS1 went to a ridiculously OTT birthday party yesterday afternoon- DH took him while my friend and I stayed at home with our kids. It was nice to just chill with her and have the kiddos play with each other. DS1 came back with his face painted like captain America, a huge helium balloon, a captain America figurine, a fire truck toy, a massive bouquet of twisted balloons, AND a bag of candy. He had a blast, but I worry his birthday party expectations are way too high now. 😂😬
This afternoon we’re making Chinese dumplings (jiao zi). Can’t wait to eat them all!!! Nom nom nom.

Whoa Taitai, that is quite the party! I’m sure he had a blast! We went to community league swim tonight and hopefully that combined with keeping the kids up a bit late will help with daylight savings time tomorrow 😬 DS has been waking at 6 and so much dnw to 5:00 😳. DH and I had a relaxing evening and are going to go to bed at our normal time rather than staying up later to make sure the morning doesn’t suck any extra lol

We also went shopping today for the stuff to fill operation Christmas child shoeboxes. It’s a tradition we have done since I was a kid. DD is so excited to pick everything out and pack up the boxes, it’s the sweetest. She picks the things she likes best because “the girl” or “the boy” will like them too. I love her
