I love classic stuff too pearbear. Did any of you watch Bates Motel? It was so good. It lost he plot a bit in season 3 but 4 and 5 were excellent. I love Vera Verminga. Yes!!! It was my favorite. I'm so sad it's over but it the ending was perfect

I kind of skimmed this thread so I apologize if I somehow missed it but does anyone watch "See No Evil"? It's about crimes that were solved by help of surveillance cameras. I also love "A Crime to Remember".

I usually DVR it, so I don't always watch them right when they come out. But it's worth checking out if you like that stuff! They play reruns on that channel sometimes too

I watched the one about Skylar Neese (she lived near where I used to live so I was interested when I saw they were doing a special about her), and kept watching the show afterwards. If anyone hasn't heard of what happened to her, that's a crazy and super sad story

I also love "A Crime to Remember". Is this the show they advertised last year, or the year before, by showing the footage of that cheerleader girl who was (most likely) kidnapped? They had footage of her in a store, possibly being followed, and then she just *poof*, disappeared. If it was, it did look like an interesting show. I've just backed off of ID since getting pregnant/having a child, which is weird, because before I used to watch every single show ID produced.

Answering my own question - yes, their first episode was about the abduction and murder of Kelsey Smith. She was not a cheerleader, so I don't know where I got that from. But her case always interested me. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Murder_of_Kelsey_Smith

I have only seen the first two seasons - is there a third?

bbgirl I'll to have to read those, I don't think I've heard of those before. I just started watching A Crime to Remember at the beginning of the year, so I've been recording all of the episodes. I'm not sure if there was a season 3 or not. I hope so!

I also can't help but feel sorry for some of the girls reading about their childhoods. That whole thing is awful 😱

I read this thread 4 days ago in the middle of the day. My first night alone? It was all I could think about.
Do not like scary stuff. But I want to hear all about it. I'm conflicted

Welp, shopping at Target will never be quite the same again. That poor girl. How very creepy that the guy was following her around the entire store.

::pops head in:: oh hellooooo
MH and I bonded over foreign horror films when we first started dating. We typically watch 2-3 new horror movies a month and see the bigger releases in theaters.
I've been into horror and psychological thrillers for as long as I can remember. I always felt an affinity towards the boogie man in Nightmare Before Christmas LOL.
We've been really into horror anthologies lately - the Holidays one on Netflix is pretty good. I have a love of 80's Kronenberg type movies with ultra gore/outlandish stories and special effects. I hate CGI and think it cheapens the genre.
I will watch just about any horror/thriller but I'm not a fan of torture porn not because of the gore but because the plots and characters are usually one dimensional.
Recently seen in theaters: Aliens Covenant, Split, Get Out
Some recent favorites: VVitch, The Devil's Candy, Babadook

cassafrass I absolutely agree on the cg1 ruining it for the horror genre. I love Toni Savini, Greg Nicotero, Howard Berger and Robert Kurtzman so hard! It's why I watch some of the more gory stuff of the 80's. I miss that type of special effects. I saw a documentary once (forgot the name) and they basically were saying that movies don't want to wait for the special effects crew to come up with their stuff because of CG1. It basically has driven them out of the business and why most movies now look fake.

Part of the issue with the Evil Dead remake was that it took away the campy fun of outrageous special effects!! I believe that CGI is also much cheaper, so from that standpoint I get it and it definitely has its place in some films. The problem is now that it is the go-to for everything. For example the Guillermo del Toro film Mama was super creepy and atmospheric but the CGI parts were so painfully obvious that it took me out of the enjoyment and distracted me.

Also miawallace I totally need to find that documentary! That's from an interview. I believe the doc is Nightmare factory. Something like that. Nicotero "I don’t know if it’s that they don’t understand what it takes, but it’s always a challenge. There are times when budget factors into it. You’ll work with a director who will be like, “Listen, I want this really great fake head, but I’ve got $1.98.” They don’t really understand the artistry of sculptors and painters and mold makers. It takes a couple weeks to build something, and then you want to test it. Once you test it, you want to refine it again. That happens quite a bit. Some people understand it and some people don’t. Some people don’t understand that it’s a process. You can’t just call somebody and go, “Hey, I need a fake head,” and then you pull it out of a box.
